I was watching the egg bowl last night and watched in horror the injury that befell Fitzgerald. I am appreciative that the ESPN folks broadcasting the game chose not to show replays of that injury. It looked horrible, (joe theismann horrible). I was surprised to see him on the side lines and reading that it was a dislocated ankle. Hopefully he can avoid surgery and will be back next year.

Oh sweet lordy, that was one gruesome injury. Ouch!

When I saw his foot pointing in the wrong direction, I was aghast. Like I said, I hope his recovery will be smooth and quick. I know when you dislocate your wrist you need surgery to fix the ligaments, not sure if that's the case for the ankle. I really thought he snapped his leg in half the way it looked initially

Looks like he has a fracture-dislocation that will likely require surgery and a lot of rehab. Hope it goes well for him.

So as I expected:
Bielema out after five years as Arkansas coach

Yet I think he shouldn't have been let go in hindsight. 2017 was a horrible year for the Arkansas program, they incurred so many high profile injuries, it definitely impacted how they were to play. They played a great game last night though came up short. What done is done, but I think he deserved one more year.

Looks like Mike Riley is trying to save his job at Nebraska, but they went from a consistently winning 10 games per year with Bo Pelini to poor performing with Riley 6-7, 9-4, and 4-8. I can't help but think he'll be let go

I think it’s safe to say whoever loses SEC and ACC and BIG championship games are out. We won’t get a double rep.

And I think programs need to keep things in perspective. Arkansas, for example, is a second-town program. The seasons they have are what the fans should expect, largely. I can’t stand their now fired coach but what do you think you’re going to go hire some top-tier coach and go undefeated every year? That’s silly. Nebraska made a similar mistake. You need stability in order to attract recruits.

That's the issue, fine they fired Bielema, but who are they going to get in his place? They're only options as I see it are folks from smaller programs, whose coaches consider a Arkansas an upgrade.

Nebraska was a little different. I'm not defending them but it seems Bo Pelini more or less wore out his welcome, but if you look at Mike Riley's record while at Oregon State, it wasn't great. I don't understand why they went him in the first place. Mike Riley's 2014 season (the last year he coached the Beavers) they were 5-7. I'm not sure why they went with him given his record.

Good news is no matter the outcome, whoever loses that game is out now. I was worried about a maybe close Miami loss and them somehow still getting in.

That just means we might see Ohio State get in...which is fine but then we would have to hear all the annoying Ohio State fans again, thinking their team is that good even though they lost twice.

Yeah but they at least can win national championships instead of putting in teams like Washington or something

Looks like Mike Riley has been fired, not surprising as I mentioned before

Injuries finally caught up to Alabama. Making the CFP every year since its inception is pretty good and every team eventually falls. Nick Saban will have to reevaluate in the offseason and reload.

They are almost for sure going to the playoff

No way, there's no argument to put Alabama in the CFP.

CFP:
SEC Champion (Georgia/Auburn)
ACC Champion (Miami/Clemson)
Big 10 Champion (Wisconsin/OSU)
Oklahoma (Assuming they beat TCU)

I don't see how Alabama makes it this year. If the Auburn game was closer, there might be a small argument but they got beat and Alabama's SOS isn't anything to write home about. I don't see the committee putting in Alabama AND the SEC Champion.

I get that but I can easily see “loss on the road to your rival” as being a quality loss enough to get in. If Ohio State beats Wisconsin, Alabama is probably in.

I think that the chances of Bama getting in are close to zero. The winner of the SECC will be in. The committee will also look at Alabama’s play today, which was horrible for much of the game. Hurts never really got into rhythm, and he didn’t see guys who were wide open on several plays.

Agreed, why should they go ahead of other one loss teams? Just because of Saban or their name?

They were undefeated going into yesterday's game but if you look at the the teams they played and won (some of which they struggled in playing)

Why should Alabama bump out the Big 10 champion, especially if Wisconsin wins out. I think there are other teams that have deserve a shot at being in the playoffs more then Alabama.

What if that champ is Ohio State? What about USC?

Even with 2 losses, Ohio State winning their conference should be somewhere at the top of things highly and strongly considered. Alabama has nothing going for them this year, they're just a one-loss team with a relatively weak SOS that will not play for the conference championship. You can't win a power conference and not be in the CFP. If the rest of the country was down, I could see Alabama sneak in, but Oklahoma is more deserving to play in the CFP than Alabama this year.

Why can't the 4 teams be ranked by the power conferences championship games? Win your league you're in. I never understood the arbitrary way they pick the playoffs.
