Nice to see Saints leading Liverpool at the moment (approaching half time)
Considering the injury woes befalling us, we are doing relatively well.
One goal won't be enough against this Liverpool team though. Need to ensure Thiago gets sent off and we score another goal or two...we've had the chances
I'm in the rare position of wanting Liverpool to win this one. We are competing with Saints more than Liverpool. Anyway plenty of time to turn it around.

True, but I think that Liverpool really miss van Dijk at the heart of their defence.
Indeed. But we all miss key players. Antonio for us at the moment. If he had played the last few games we would have turned some of those draw's into wins.

But their main issue tonight wasn't defence but their inability to hit the target. Something we do too much of when Antonio is missing.

As did we, for a while...but then we got Vestergaard in form and then broke him, but we've made do.
One player shouldn't shape an entire team...Liverpool have the personnel to cope with missing players and should be better at it.

But - leaving Covid, and injuries to key players aside - notwithstanding that, - I think that it is exceptionally difficult to maintain, or sustain, a superlative and consistent level of excellence for more than two consecutive or so in the Premier League.

Manchester City managed it - superb in their first year, and were chased to the very wire in their second year at the top, a year when Liverpool - then in thir own first year of excellence - won the Champions League, but were pipped by one point for the Premier League by an outstanding Manchester City side.

Each of those two teams were outstanding for two years, but could not sustain this level of excellence for a third.

And, it is in the third year that injuries to key players seem to have a greater effect than otherwise might have been the case.

One player shouldn't shape an entire team, true, but some players simply transcend their teammates, for, there are key players, who, when they are out of action for a while, do have an effect on their team, becuae their absence leaves a yawning gap, that nobody else can adequately fill. And van Dijk fills such a role in Liverpool.

Oh yes it will. :(

There is no one missing player that's causing this slump. Though, I have no doubt Liverpool would be winning some of these matches they are losing and drawing if everyone was fit.

Very glad I didn't waste my time watching this match, I actually got some (real-world) work done this afternoon.

He's a cautionary tale of what a player can become if they are only in it for the pay...
Sounds like another player. Apparently Arnautovic has been offered back to West Ham as things are not working out well in China. I’m really not keen given the way he left just after signing a new contract. But Antonio could really use some help up front. Apparently his wage demands are £300k a week. Crazy.

Are they really going to entertain that kind of a demand? That would make him the Hammers highest paid player, wouldn't it?
He's not exactly that prolific!! I'd imagine he's good enough for £60k a week, but that's about it.

Well after our 11 cases over Christmas, As part of the mass testing in the EFL this week, we (Ipswich) tested 57 players/staff yesterday and all tests came back negative.

So fingers crossed, we should finally be back in action on Saturday against Swindon. 25 days after our last game. And it's on TV as well which with our awful televised record (1 televised in in 5 years!) adds to the pressure..

And so it's a Tottenham vs Man City final in the (name that sponsor) cup.

Will be an interesting contrast of styles...park the bus and hit on the counter-attack, vs dominate the midfield and pass, pass, pass until a hole opens up.
Could be exciting...more likely to be boring.
I predict a 1-0 win in one direction or the other.
