My football buddy, Millie, my cat, and I were able to watch our team Man U beat Real Sociedad 4-0 yesterday; the bad news, she passed away in her sleep early Friday morning. In keeping with her love of the game, I wrapped in her Man U blanket and buried her in the garden. She was a peach.

@JamesMike: I'm very sorry to hear that; she sounds as though she was both a wonderful cat and companion.

Meanwhile, do try to be kind to yourself.

Fourth consecutive league loss at home for Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby today, and Henderson had to come off injured. Even with all the injuries and COVID-related disruptions, it's a really shocking fall.

Following a number of seasons where they (Liverpool) weren't defeated - at all - at home.

A defeat to local rivals Everton, who won by two goals to nil.

As for Wednesday, what is really aggravating, aside from me restating this for the millionth time, without the points deduction we're stuck mid table and fairly far off from relegation.

Without that we'd be bitching about how far off 6th place we were...

Good start for the hammers. Antonio loves to score against Spurs.
He used to play for Wednesday... :(

That’s the worst thing about supporting a struggling or lower ranked side. Seeing your best players leave all the time.

Happy Hammer hear. Back up to fourth. Top club in London.
Let’s hope we can keep everyone fit and maintain this run.

A Happpy Hammer (very good win) matched by an Unsurprised Gunner.

Losing to Manchester City is sort of expected these days, and keeping the score to a respectable 1-0 defeat is no cause for shame, but I do dislike conceding a goal as early as the second minute of a game.

Yes that did put you on the back foot from the off. But as you say there is no shame losing to Man City by a single goal.

Man Utd may not get an easier game this season than today's "match" against Newcastle, a team in poor form and managed by Steve Bruce, a man who does not tend to save his best managerial performances for matches against Man Utd. There are a couple absentees on both sides, and when Man Utd lose it tends to be against bad teams, but still...this should be a banker.

Needs to be a banker. A goal to the good already. Can’t see Newcastle pulling it back. Fulham are in touching distance of Newcastle. Could make it interesting for the final day when they play each other.

I find the Darren Drysdale story rather fascinating. He stepped over the line and will be punished for it, but in my opinion referees are totally inadequately protected. The more I watch rugby, the more I think "why on earth do we allow footballers, managers and staff to regularly harass refs in football?" Not to mention the internet bullying.

Bare minimum, there should be a rule banning players from speaking to refs except when spoken to, save the captains. Outside that, confronting a ref/complaining is automatically grounds for a yellow.

This is also why a sin bin would be a good idea, to give yellows more teeth.
NRL (Australian Rugby League, which Kiwis have participated in and followed for decades): It's a red card for touching the ref.
Famously, Matthew Ridge (NZ Kiwis Captain) had just celebrated either scoring or being awarded a free kick or similar - in a friendly gesture, he patted the ref on the shoulder with a big grin on his face...then the grin evaporated as he realised what he'd done and the ref apologised to him as he produced a red card.
Its the way it should be in Football - yellow for constant questioning or "ganging up" on a ref. Red for touching or similar.
It would sort it out pretty quickly.

Lol. Shows what I know! 1-1 at HT.

Very poor from Maguire and De Gea both. The former was a massive waste of money and the latter is no longer a top keeper. At least United have a readymade replacement for De Gea in house, but they need to invest in a top defender who is also an experienced leader — someone like Alaba would have been perfect, but he's no doubt headed to Madrid. I don't think they can wait for Teden Mengi to be ready, as good of a prospect as he is.

Second half was better. Dan James can't scoring all of a sudden. Also glad to see Shola Shoretire make his first team debut — the lad is just barely 17 years old and has really stood out amongst a very strong crop of U18 and U23's. That last name is pronounced "Shore-uh-TEE-ray". I look forward to saying it a lot more.

Terrible second half from Saints today, to lose 3-0 after going into the half time break at 0-0 and having dominated the game.
At one point Saints had 5 recognised strikers on the pitch and not one of them could hit the target.

I fear we are going to get sucked into the bottom 3 fairly shortly...a mere month and a bit after being top of the table and looking like we were heading to the Champions League.
Now we'll be lucky if we avoid being dragged down into the Championship.

I think you’ll be alright. Sheffield and West Brom are down. Then it’s one from Fulham or Newcastle in my opinion.

Your challenge re relegation is simple: Are there three teams in the division who are even worse?

Then, your task is quite straightforward. You must stay above them. As long as you are ahead of them (above them, in the table) on the last day of the season - even by as narrow a nargin as a whisker, goal difference, points, howsoever it is measured, you will stay up.

For, @Apple fanboy is quite right: Two teams look to be in deep trouble, - at this stage, I cannot see how either can stage a convincing recovery, for, the gap is too great, - and the third place, of the three to descend to a lower division, is the only one where matters are somewhat less certain.

I think Fulham may pull one out of the bag this season and survive.
Then I think it becomes a contest between us and Newcastle.

It doesn't help when the manager comes out and states publicly,

"We are the worst team in the second half of the season"
