The 2020-2021 Football Thread

Nope. Yesterday was the death of good football and a victory for UEFA corruption and low quality football.

This way you get your top teams to play against small teams in what is a very poor display of football. I do not pay to see a FC Krasnodar vs FC Barcelona in a Champions League group stage match. No sponsors or TV audience is worth that game. But the money, sponsors and audience will come to see Real Madrid vs Barcelona.

And this is the point you guys are missing by miles. Small teams have no right to play in a top level Champions League tournament.
Like small teams in mid table positions? Clearly you see the world differently to me (and every other football fan on here). I think I’ll bow out out of my conversation with you and I’ll just go back to talking to the football fans on here.

You are foreign. I have zero interest in what Spanish football want to do. If Spain and Italy want to form a super league you can go for it but I have zero interest in what fans outside of England want.
the football pyramid in England is a product over a hundred years of culture and passion. You can’t grasp that and clearly don’t.

Nope, I am not a foreign. I am spanish. I am an european citizen. You want me to slap my spanish “documents” in your face?

I do not care about what happens in Premier League either. For all I know, England is out of EU (Brexit, right?) so you have absolutely no say in how a Champions League should be.

All I care for is for more money to Barcelona so we can sign better players and win more trophies.

Fair enough, I don’t want to sound rude or xenophobic but I don’t care about what foreign fans want.
They’re more than welcome to be part of it but when it comes to decisions like this it’s got to be down to the locals. It’s our game, our clubs, our history and our culture.
I would forgo every foreign cashed up fan to make sure there’s the tiniest possibility of a Accrington Stanley winning the premier league.

Not at all xenophobic, that’s just a factual analysis. We can’t really comment on the impact to the Spanish and Italian leagues for the same reasons those non UK residents don’t understand the cultural impact football has here in England. If fans in those countries see the ESL as a positive then fair enough. It’s not right for English football though and I’m glad we are well out of it.

The fact that Germany and France refused to be part of it shows how in step we are with them. In Spain there are two top teams. Not much more in Italy. But in England any number of teams can win the PL of qualify for the CL. Talking of which I really hope we beat Chelsea this weekend!

That was not a factual analysis, he was xenophobic. Half of my family is brazilian. I am spanish, my dad is spanish. I am VERY offended by such xenophobic comments.

Its relevant who answers because it was about my nationality, you do not know me so you cant answer where I am from. The only one who can answer is me.

You clearly do not know me so you have no right to say where I am from or say something about my culture.

I think the UEFA champions league are more than happy to have money from the richest football league in the world even if you don’t care. Brexit is a political topic completely irrelevant to this. If you want to discuss that then go to PRSI.

I’m not sure if it’s a language issue or something but if you’re Spanish you are foreign.
Yes we are out of the EU but not Europe, you can’t be out of geography so the point about the champions league is seriously dumb.

The same corrupt UEFA that has paid to the EPL teams to leave the Super league, right?

@danny842003 you‘re totally wrong. I am spanish, therefore I am an european citizen, not a foreign.

Since England is out of EU, the foreign here is you not me.

And you’re clearly missing the point by trying to drag this to a xenophobic/political topic. I could not care less about what happens in English Premier League. All I care for is what happens in La Liga and UCL/SuperLeague. The EPL is your problem not mine.

Fine, you want to have a political discussion about citizenship? Go to the PRSI forums as someone suggested above.

I do not care about what happens in EPL and how Super League affects the english teams that disbanded, mate. My discussion is about the UEFA Champions League, not EPL.

That’s fine I’m purely concerned with English football and for the time being it safe.
If Barcelona and Madrid are feeling the pinch from stupid spending that’s not my concern they can go bankrupt for all I care.

Oh, nice. Even if we go bankrupt, your team will never have a trophy room like ours. LOL

Try to beat that before saying these things.

It won’t you’re right, but by making this post you’re still missing the entire point.

What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.

we had the man who made that quote as one of own and that’s worth more than that trophy room.

You’re stuck in a romantic view of football from the past. The football is not that anymore. Football is a business thing now. Is a product. And the clubs need to sell that product to survive.

All that matters is money. Cash is king. A club can only be successful if there is money to mount a squad full of gifted and talented players to win trophies. And trophies, titles, victories is all that I want. I could not care less about the small boy you described there. All I want is my team winning everything, against the top teams.

These teams cannot do that playing against the likes of FC Krasnodar in a UCL group stage match because games like these have zero profit for them.

To those who were against the Super League, congratulations and enjoy your low quality matches against the likes of FC Krasnodar, Red Bull Salzburg and Apoel. Certainly you all prefer to be stuck with the corruption in UEFA, instead of watching top teams play on attack against each other and giving a damn good show of high quality football. Sad times. Football has died today. RIP football 🪦

FC Krasnodar, Salzburg, Apoel and other teams like them should never have a place in Champions League. They do not belong there. UEFA won and will continue to lower the quality of football played there. One day even a team of taxi drivers from hungary will qualify for UCL without having quality for this, just because Ceferin wants them there...

Seems that I will continue avoiding the group stage matches and only turning on the TV when my team reaches the quarter finals. Because these small, tiny, low quality teams do not have football to play against Barcelona. Watching a Barcelona slap FC Krasnodar with six or seven goals and 90% ball possession because they spent the whole game defending themselves does not have any appeal to me or is qualified as good football to me.

I am a fan of football. I am a fan of WELL PLAYED football, high quality attacking minded games from both teams, not a fan of low quality games where small teams park the bus infront of their goal for 90 minutes, give up on ball possession and defend just to try not to lose. This is not football. This is clearly a certificate of "We do not know how to play football".

Seems that people love to see the underdogs suffer under attack for 90 minutes. 👎🏼 Their place is the Europa League, where low quality teams play, not the Champions League where only top teams should be playing.
What a load of drivel. Buying success is different from earning it... But humour you;
1. How is your super rich team going to find the players to win you more trophies? Hint: From the smaller teams, that you play, that your scouts watch.
2. Fans control the game, not the buseinesses, and you should know that as your club is fan owned. However it is in so much debt, that it may not even survive much longer, and you'll have to sell all your trophies to pay the money back.
3. You don't seem to understand football, and where it exists on the global stage. For some, including millions in the country you are in right now, it's a way out of poverty and slum, a chance to be someone, and with your ideas, they'd never make it. Then we wouldn't see the likes of Messi, Suarez, Pele, Ronaldinho and many others.
4. Football has defence and attack. If a team chooses to defend to protect a lead, or a position or to accumulate points (concept of league football) then it is a genuine tactic. If your team can't beat them, then they aren't good enough. Seeing Mourinho is an exponent of a strong, park the bus defence, I guess he shouldn't be in football either.

That’s not the view in England and that romantic view is still very much alive thank goodness.

It isn’t though that’s still a very real thing. You might be concerned with seeing your club win at all cost but plenty are not.
What is gone is the super league and I’m as happy as can be.

1. Wrong. We make our players. You forgot that we have LA MASIA?
2. The titles will remain, in history. That, cannot be sold.
3. Football is a product, not a way of life. If you want to get out of poverty, go to the school, study to be someone.
4. Defending 90 minutes parking the bus with the entire team inside your area infront of your goalkeeper, negating ball possession to the other team, is not a genuine tactic, abusing of fouls after fouls, is a cowardish act. This is not good football. Not a good display of football. This is not a fair game. This is not the kind of football that attracts audience and sponsors. This is the football played by a team facing the relegation zone.

In one thing we agree, about Mourinho.

But a fair game is the rich boys excluding everyone else?
ha what a joke.

Rich or not, a fair game is two top teams playing football how it should be played: attacking. If the small teams in Champions League group stage cannot do it, then they shouldn’t be there in first place.

When I play football, I want my team to score the goals and win, not stay at the back for the entire 90 minutes trying to avoid conceding a goal. This is not the real objective of this sport.

Fair game is not a top team facing a small team with a defensive minded tactic, trying to survive without conceding a goal. This is ridiculous. A waste of 90 minutes. I would never pay to watch this game.

In your opinion it’s not a fact.
A fair game is two teams playing within whatever is allowed by the rules and judged to be in the spirit of them by the referee. All the rest of your post is just opinion.

Ah, ***** this. Enjoy your low quality football then. You apparently know nothing about how football should be played and enjoyed. You deserve the terrible product UEFA delivers to you.

Isn't past your bedtime? This forum is based and owned by a US entity, so in fact, if you are not American, like I am not, then you, like me, are foreign.
To state football is simply a product shows that you know nothing about the game, so it's time we muted you.
