Man I am glad my office wifi allowed me to stay connected through that game this morning.
Funny how the commentator's curse didn't affect the Swiss this morning - not 2 minutes after he said that it's not all over at 3-1 and just look at the previous game etc etc, the Swiss scored, then went on to win the bloody game.
Great for them. Incredible that the French team - so stacked with talent - is out.

Now for the big one tomorrow morning...I may have to get up for this one (it's playing at 3.30am in NZ) - Come on England!

I might be jinxing England here by saying this, but today's results could be seen to validate Southgate's cautious approach. The Swiss are a clearly inferior team to England but they just beat an opponent most England fans would fear to face. And the result was NOT about talent and flair so much as organization, teamwork, solidity, a tiny slice of luck and just a couple tablespoonfuls of individual brilliance on top.

But what the heck do I know anyway...I had France as my pre-tournament favorites.

Italy or Germany must be favourite now I think. Belgium have those injuries to worry about. I guess Spain looked good yesterday as well.

Hard to say. Belgium won't win anything without the now-injured KDB and Hazard. Spain are fragile at the back and can be got at by bypassing their midfield. Italy looked good but have benefitted from massive home field advantage. We'll know a lot more about Germany and England today.

Nervous already.
Please not penalties.

My nerves won’t take it!

The more football I watch, the acting done by players who have been touched or bumped into just gets more absurd. Rugby players and ice hockey players must just shake their heads and laugh.

At least we can rest assured that Gareth Southgate will have ensured that they will have practised taking penalties while exhausted (as was the case in the last World Cup).

Bitter, hard earned, experience does sometimes count for something.
