How hot is Brendan Rodgers' seat at Leicester right now? They've been getting very poor results in the league and just got comprehensively throttled by Forest in the FA Cup. I can only hope that United's board doesn't consider him if he's available.

Busy day yesterday, with an extremely boring AFCON final having one giant narrative element that paid off right at the end, with Mané's redemptive shootout penalty (absolutely hammered into the corner) after his 3rd minute PK miss and Egypt's decision to have Mo Salah go last biting them hard. Serves them right for playing for the shootout from the start but naturally I feel bad for Salah, who deserves better than this Quieroz-ed version of Egypt.

It's a great story for Senegal though, who were in truth the better team. And, thankfully, there were no game-changing calls to spoil it, though that ref sure did love to toot his whistle.

Meanwhile, Harvey Elliot and Luis Díaz both sparkled against a decent Cardiff side who were nevertheless overwhelmed by Klopp putting out a strong XI. Really great to see Elliot back and looking sharp after the kind of major injury that could stunt a player's career. It's been a long road back but he looks set to pick up right where he left off. Díaz, despite only having signed on Monday, managed an assist with some fancy footwork in the box. More of that please!

That would be amusing. But you'll get Poch. Rogers is certainly in deep trouble, the team is in a funk and he has shown in the past that both he and Leicester are much better than this. I'm not sure sacking him is a good idea but I am definitely more hesitant to sack managers than your average Premier League Chairman.

Leicester don't have the strength in depth of some of the other top teams, and once injuries, fatigue, suspensions and - perhaps - Covid concerns - all kick in, the team can begin to look a little threadbare.

They're a completely different team when one or two of their mainstays are out.
That screams lack of depth to me.

Saints were in that situation this time last season, but have managed to get through a January window without losing anyone, so are looking fairly good for a mid-table team right now.
And speaking of Saints...how about that Stu Armstrong goal?! What an absolute belter!

Good he gets it out of his system before the next round!

Oh dear of dear. Another stupid idiot playing football with a cat. Zouma. What an idiot.
Yes, I read about that.

Not just an idiot; vicious and violent, ugly and downright nasty.

According to the Guardian, apparently there is a video (a video? Who on Earth would want to - would choose to - make a video of such a thing?) of Zouma dropping, kicking, and slapping the cat. Not content with that, apparently, he then threw a pair of shoes at the unfortunate animal.

While West Ham (entirely to their credit) swiftly - and strongly - condemned the player's actions, expressed appalled horror, and apologised, the player's own apology, which included the following remarks, "I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy. They are loved and cherished by our entire family, and this behaviour was an isolated incident that will not happen again," struck me as less then entirely credible in the circumstances.

Yes the fact that your stupid enough to do something like that, but do it when it’s being filmed is even more stupid.
We are still playing like a team in need of a holiday. 0-0 against Watford. An unforgettable game apparently.

I saw the video on Reddit. I couldn't watch it all, but it looks like a flatmate/friend/girlfriend/whatever filming for Tik Tok and with laughing emojis and LOL on the video etc.

It's just vile and immature and nasty and the sort of thing that only a psycopath would find funny.

West Ham have a real shot at the top four….everyone around them are pretty inconsistent right now.

It’s baffling, but people still have not figured out that if you film something and post it on the internet other people will see what you’re up to. And you will be judged (and potentially prosecuted). Not a good look for Zouma and really no apology is going to cover that sort behavior. ‘Oh jeez, sorry about that sadistic behavior, now that I’ve been caught I promise it won’t happen again…’ From kicking cats to sexual assault it’s been a pretty dark week in football.

I think Spurs are still in there. Four points behind with four games in hand. Even a pretty dire set of results and they could easily overhaul us. But we ground out a win with a lacklustre performance. Three points, is three points. Utd dropping points also helped us. But it’s pretty tight up there.

It's pretty tight in there: even Wolves have a good chance, if there are points dropped above them. Arsenal have games in hand, as do Spurs and Wolves.
Great to see a bit of a tussle going on up in the European spots.

Well if you ignore the top three, it’s very interesting at the top. The relegation battle is hard to call as well. Disappointed to see Newcastle pick up a win. Would like to see them go down. Just because of the owners though.

Spurs’ squad is too thin. They have a very good manager but are very susceptible to injuries and losses of individual form. Never assume games in hand are points in hand.

With that being said the race for fourth is highly unpredictable and it’s anyones guess who will finish in the final coveted CL spot.

Good to see Spurs are listening and wasted their first game in hand. Now if they can just do that another three times!

Glad Norwich are keeping the pressure on Newcastle.

I wanted to see the Tottenham-Southampton match, but a neighbor needed help on his house.
and Everton needs some help to stay clear because Newcastle will be a tough club to beat this season now.

While I am not entirely comfortable with the truly extraordinary number of red cards we are busily acquiring and accumulating (and no, I am not in any way blaming referees or match officials for penalising us and punishing us for these unfortunate patterns - and these lamentable lapses - of behaviour), I am pleased with the victory against Wolves; they are a serious side.
