While I am not entirely comfortable with the truly extraordinary number of red cards we are busily acquiring and accumulating (and no, I am not in any way blaming referees or match officials for penalising us for this unfortunate pattern of behaviour), I am pleased with the victory against Wolves; they are a serious side.
Personally not the result I was hoping for! The battle for 4th-7th is a good one to follow. Who will miss out on Europe? I fear it will be us. Especially once the Europa league starts up again.

Newcastle appear to have bought their way out of relegation. That’s a huge moment for the club and disaster for whomever finishes 17th this season in their place. With virtually unlimited funds they can now offer premier league (albeit not Champions League) football to their summer transfer targets, which could make a big difference in who they land as the squad gets a Galactico rebuild over the next windows.

Liverpool ground out a 1-0 in horrible weather against Burnley. The less said about that win the better. But apparently Fabinnho, despite being a Brazilian, CAN do it on a cold, wet night in Burnley.

Kieran Trippier seems to have been an excellent buy for Newcastle; despite their vast resources, (which will doubtless be called upon in due course) they have bought intelligently this window.

Elsewhere, Wolves defeated a sluggish Surs by two goals to nil, and Liverpool won (clawing out such unprepossessing victories in dreary and dismal conditios is also a hallmark of potential champions, or those who would challenge for honours).

And - at the moment - Leicester lead West Ham by two goals to one.

And at the death got a point. Better than a lose. Keeps us in front of the pack.

I wouldn’t say Leicester need this more than West Ham, but there is no doubt that Leicester and Brendan Rogers badly needed this win….ah, but no! The Hammers equalize in the 91st.

In truth a draw is not a completely satisfactory result for either team here but for Leicester it’s another lead thrown away late and that hurts more.

I still think we’ll struggle at the end of the season and lose out on CL to one of the greedy six. Most likely Arsenal I would say. Man Utd are too inconsistent and Spurs seem to be losing their momentum. But it’s fun being in with a shout for a bit.

Right now none of your top four rivals are more consistent than West Ham, and Spurs/Arsenal have done nothing in the transfer market, so they aren’t suddenly going to become a lot better even if their form does improve. Man Utd still have a deeper and more talented squad. Leicester are sliding away. So at minimum West Ham should still be in the running at the end of the season.

I guess it will come down to the results we pick up against each other. Those other teams have games in hand. It’s unlikely they won’t pick up something. Even Wolves are in the mix if they win their game in hand.

How good is it to hear the excuses coming from the Man U faithful (including Ragnarok) to try and deflect from the fact that they (despite the sum of their parts) are no better than little old Southampton.

We're going to win the league! Or at least end up in mid-table.

We got rid of some, er, I was about to write "deadwood", which isn't quite accurate or fair, so will content myself with "underperforming, yet overpaid players" instead. Not that we obtained much by way of funds, finances or resources for them with which to buy promising replacements, but, at least, they are no longer a significant drain on our resources.

But, you are entirely correct to state that our own shopping basket was still empty at the end of the transfer window.

Trippier broke his foot, depending on the break, he could miss a month, who exactly knows?
(BBC is useless in important information like that)
Newcastle should keep the pace with St Maximin being a beast with the football.
but to compete in the EPL, a club needs to spend money, and lots of it
i am not comfortable with that and even seen
Chelsea FC waste a ton on bad transfers that ruined their season.

I blame Tuchel for some of Chelsea's woes - he's blown hot and cold. He's certainly doing his best to ruin Christian Pulisic.

Trippier is gone for at least a month - and to be fair to the BBC, it's hard to accurately predict that - it could be longer if he has any setbacks in rehab. It will be interesting to see how much that dampens Newcastle's bid for safety from relegation.

That is a blow for the Toon army. He has been in great form for them. But there loss could be Norwich’s gain. Who knows.

You’ve still saved millions in not pay their wages. But you need to spend 10’s of millions, if not more to get replacements.

Man United are no better than Southampton. Neither are they better than Burnley, or even Middlesborough.

I've been following United for a few decades, and this is the least likable United team I've ever seen. I can't wait for this season to be over with, and I have never felt that way before. Even worse, the number of first team players I'd be sad to see leave the club can be easily counted on one hand. Quite a few players are out of contact over the next two years, so now's a good time for the board and the footballing leadership to clean house and commit to a long term rebuild, or just keep sitting in this purgatory for another decade.

Yes, that is what is has come down to, isn't it?

Saving the cost of their (incredibly inflated) wages?

You can (attempt to) grow the replacements, or buy them.

Actually, Arsenal have a nice crop of youngsters coming through at the moment, but, at the moment, they lack experience, and the confidence in their own judgment that only comes with experience.

The best teams need a mix of all of these.

Talented youngsters.
Experienced professionals
And that little bit extra that one of those special players brings in.

It’s hard to hold on to talented youngsters if you do not have the other two and can either pay them well enough or offer them the chance for silverware. Even then a greedy agent might persuade them Spain or Italy is better for them.

Liverpool had a tough match at the San Siro today but ultimately came out on top. If Mane and Jota aren’t firing, well, you’ve still got Firmino and Salah.

Firmino is presumed by some to be past his sell-by date and I think that’s harsh, especially as he has never been an out-and-out striker. He’s an advanced creative player who can score goals. Good to see him bag one today.

Taking a 2-0 lead back to Anfield is a great position to be in but Klopp won’t take anything for granted. The biggest piece of good news is that the squad is remarkably healthy at the moment, though that can change quickly (Jota definitely picked up a knock, hopefully not serious). But this is a time of year where depth makes all the difference.
