Norwich really made Liverpool work today, and probably deserved more than the one goal they scored. After going behind to a deflected shot, Klopp responded aggressively by bringing on a fourth forward in Origi to join Salah, Diaz, and Mané in a 4-2-4, with Thiago subbed in to partner Hendo in the midfield. And it paid off big with three goals and a resounding win. But it took Liverpool an hour to impose themselves. Klopp rested both Trent and Robertson, and Liverpool are just not the same without them, though Tsimikas is a useful replacement on the left. Gomez on the right is really a pure defender though, and he did ok but can't offer anything going forward. We were able to compensate by sheer weight of numbers up top against a relatively weak Norwich side, but a more dangerous opponent would have exploited that.

The grim reality is that Liverpool could win every remaining match 3-0 and still finish second to Man City in the league. Though this year's Champions League campaign has been good thus far.

I think I have access to League one through ESPN+ here, so I might try to watch the replay of Wycombe - Cheltenham's ten goal thriller. Must have been pandemonium in that ground.

Fixed that for you. :D Maybe the players are all playing for their jobs now.

Watched most of the back & forth second half. Antonio was too deep/trying to create rather than finish, and West Ham looked a bit blunt as a result.
they did not mention St Maximim because he was not dressed.
then i wanted to see Chelsea, but had to install a stick of 4GB ram into a Dell 2004 inspierion
while the ipad streamed the match.

Yes, a very welcome win.

Nice to see.

And I think that the magic currently drifting into Newcastle comes daubed with the somewhat strange colour of what used to be described as filthy lucre.

Spurs with a huge win (from a 'Pool perspective) over City, who are still totally in the drivers' seat for the title but with less margin for error now. City still need to stumble several more times, with Liverpool continuing to win constantly, for the latter to overhaul the former.

Well, yes, but one cannot but be delighted to see City defeated (and a decisive Liverpool victory, all on the one day).

All my Arsenal-supporting friend could say about the Man City-Spurs match was 'City got the pen Arsenal didn't today for the exact same foul. Typical.'
We won; I'm happy.

Our unfortunate little habit of collapsing spinelessly in the second half - and/or losing concentration - is less depressingly evident these days; yes, we still leak goals, sometimes stupidly, but at least we are retaining leads, achieving victories, and salvaging draws.

I'll not complain.
That does depend if you like City or Liverpool the most! Wasn’t great for my Fantasy team!
At the moment, I want to see City suffer, and work for their title. So, my preference lies with Liverpool.

Personally, I'm not a fan of their model of ownership, and, while Guardiola has put together a superb team, I'm not sure that he ever has had to struggle with managing to achieve results on minimal resources, rather than a bottomless purse at his disposal - and, besides, not only is competition for the title a good thing, but I must say that I quite like Klopp.

You could. You'd be wrong, but you could say that. ;) :p
Tbh I know more people that hate Liverpool than City. But I think that’s based on the glory hunter supporters from back in the day.
Just watched the highlights of the City match and I couldn’t believe how well Spurs played. Last time I watched them they were awful. Sadly there confidence will be up and with those games in hand they and Arsenal will be above us I’m sure.

I do run into the odd 'old' Liverpool fan from the '70s and '80s, but here in the States it was pretty hard to watch English football back then. Then US soccer got its biggest boost after the '94 WC (and the birth of MLS in '96) and a lot more European matches became available on TV. So unsurprisingly that means when you look at fans in the US you get tons of Ferg-era Man Utd fans, a good group of Arsenal fans, and then a bunch of Chelsea bandwagon-jumpers from the early 2000s. Then just dribs and drabs of other teams. Some Old Firm supporters (getting older now...). Then all the obnoxious glory hunters who follow whichever team is likely to win the CL...those are the ones shouting loudest in the pub, making fools of themselves....Wait, you're a Man City fan? Weren't you rooting for Real Madrid last year? ?

I noticed an uptick in people running around in Liverpool shirts after they won the CL, so bandwagon-jumpers do jump.

Being a West Ham fan I never get accused of being a glory hunter!
I felt sorry for Norwich. Having scored against you it would have done them the world of good to get something from the game. I’d much prefer them to stay up than Newcastle.

Norwich really came out swinging at the start of the match and caught Liverpool a little flat-footed. Pukki should have scored in the first half (though to be fair Tsimikas also missed a sitter). They continued to threaten at the start of the second half and deserved to score even if the actual goal was a lucky deflection - USA's Josh Sargent bagged the assist so hurrah for that...But Liverpool did end up pinning them down and with Salah, Mané, Origi and Diaz all coming at them they were overwhelmed in the end.

The times I've watched Norwich this season they've suffered from a failure to finish the one or two good chances they get in a match. Pukki seems maybe off the boil somewhat and they really do depend on him to be ruthless in order to score goals.

….or Leeds gift Man Utd a goal and then will have to chase the match, guaranteeing additional goals for Rangnick’s men. Game over unless Man Utd really duff it.

I guess Man Utd have decided to 'really duff it.'

EDIT: nope, they got their late-ish goal, as predicted. Fred this time. I feel like a broken record but how did that performance yield a win?

And another. Answering my own question here: classic Bielsa Leeds - up for a good fight but ultimately unable to get the result and just not resilient.

Exactly. 4-2 in the end to MU. With Wolves winning and the North London duo having all those games in hand, I think our best chance at Europe might be the Europa league. But we have hit a decidedly average vain of form.
