I’m sure @Scepticalscribe will be hoping the rumours linking Arteta to the PSG job are just paper talk.

They are filling the media space with hot air.

Even an Arsenal blog that I sometimes read concluded that there was so little happening - and nothing to report - that they were awarding themselves a day or two off with the comment 'nothing to report'.

I get it.

People need to fill online space and the print media and TV with something that vaguely resembles news, and, if not news, then, well gossip and rumours will suffice instead.

For now, it is mostly hot air.

I see NZ's All Whites did not return for the second half against Qatar in their International Friendly this morning.
Michael Boxall (who is Samoan) was racially abused by a Qatari player.
Nothing was done about it, so they refused to play the second half.
FIFA will no doubt investigate and find that Qatar are a fabulous team with a very fair and just government and are a boon to modern society, then they'll fine NZ for abandoning the game and lower their ranking even further.

You could see Stamenic in one video look at the ref and shout (with a really quite upset look on his face), "You can't say that, ref. HE can't say that!". Ref just waves away the protests like it's nothing. The whole team were up in arms and Boxall looked like he was about to commit murder.

Terrific to see the NZ All White team support Michael Boxall in this way.

No surprise.

Perhaps you are merely holding out for (what used to be the stratospheric sum of) £100 million.
£100 million plus a player is what they said they wanted. I hope they hold out for it. We will then go sign 3 players for the money, 2 of which will be big flops whilst the other will be alright (but not as good as we had). Thats how it seems to work out for us these days anyway.

Look: We've all purchased flops.

Actually, some of us have purchased rather expensive flops.

Arsenal should walk away and come back when his contract runs out.

Focus on Lavia and cheaper alternatives.

Luis Suarez was purchased for £25m at one point.

Football has lost the plot.

Also clubs seem to be taking the piss at Arsenal.

£80m not enough to sign Mudryk who has done literally NOTHING.
£75m not enough to sign Caicedo. Fair enough it was mid season. Demanding £80m for someone you signed for £3m
£90m not enough to sign Rice
£55m not enough to sign Havertz who has done nothing but score a UCL final goal. Even Madrid walked away from this one.

These are all reasonable prices for anyone not named Messi, Ronaldo, KDB, Haaland etc

Also where are Arsenal getting their money from? I appreciate UCL and EPL 2nd finish generated some cash, and its a well supported club. But still.

Frankly the sooner caps come in, the better. This is unsustainable and bad for fair play.
You can somewhat understand why the Super League was drummed up as a concept. Everybody is so desperate for money.

To my mind, this is not aimed at Arsenal.

Rather, it is aimed at anyone who would attempt to go shopping in such shark infested financial waters.

In any case, it is a symptom of how the football market - which was already strange enough - has become further distorted with the introduction of the concept of the state-owned (at a remove) football club.

Now, while Chelsea is not state owned, it does appear to have something approximating to bottomless financial resources, as its spending patterns of recent months would seem to indicate.

Chelsea also seem desperate to balance their books given the fees they're attempting to fleece of clubs

I'd be happy if they did. He has 2 more years with an option to extend. But if he doesn't go to Arsenal, he'll end up at one of the greedy six.
But as his preference is to stay in London (and his mate Mason Mount is leaving Chelsea), I think it will be Arsenal.

Hm.

It would appear that Arsenal have signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea, a once very promising player who was rather underwhelming during his time at Stamford Bridge.
