I think pretty much everyone outside Man City fans would prefer he goes to Arsenal over Man City.

Meanwhile, the Kane to Bayern story sounds like it has legs, but I genuinely wonder whether Bayern can afford to pay the transfer fee Spurs will ultimately demand. They don't have anything like the budget of your PSGs, Real Madrids, Man Citys....

In my opinion it all depends on if Kane is wanting a legacy in football before he retires and that legacy is the PL number of goals record. He has a realistic chance of beating it but if he moves abroad and with the age he is at, that record will be gone. With his current wage United are the only PL team who have put strong interest in him and they are one of only a handful of teams who could afford his wage and they are also the only team who can afford his wage who desperately so desperately need a striker.

But does Kane actually wish to travel to Manchester and play for Manchester United?

I don't really think so.

Tuchel and the new Bayern brass wanting to make a splash.

Hard to believe their club record signing is... Lucas Hernandez for €80m. Kane would top that by a bit. That's actually very admirable, considering all the great players they've brought in over the years — so much good, smart business.

I think at the end of the day, it's down to Levy who doesn't want to sell to another English club that's a direct competitor. And I still feel United will miss out on all the top striker targets this summer, and will have to count on Hojlund being the real deal or Mason Greenwood overcoming the PR debacle.

True. But of course, Bayern's total domination of their domestic league means that all the other teams are feeders for them. Many may go abroad but they constantly snap up many of the league's best players for relatively modest money.

Some natives are restless in Liverpool over a perceived lack of signings thus far. Progress has been slow but I don't expect any blockbuster moves this summer, though in theory FSG could spend big on a player if they really wanted to. But they are never going to lay down the kind of money Chelsea and and the state clubs are contemplating..."300m Mbappe to Liverpool" rumors notwithstanding.

Speaking of Mbappe, if Real to capture him this summer they would presumably be shedding a number of squad players to free up wages, which might result in some bargain buys.

If Manchester United takeover is all done in time. The new owner will sign Mbappe to make a statement.

There's no public indication of any progress in the takeover. In fact, there have been rumors the Glazers won't go through with a sale at all. I can't imagine the ill will with the fans that would engender and the ugly ways they'll express their displeasure, so I hope this isn't true.

Mbappe is uninterested in United.

They've certainly been very publicly dragging their feet. One wonders how much longer they are going to hold on to this club. So far, it seems as if this could go on forever. Glazers continuing to take money out of the club, and effectively holding them back competitively, but with sufficient revenues to keep them in and around the elite level.

Not before time.
Some smart play by Arsenal there.

City's previous record bid was 100m for Grealish. They've exceeded that.

So if City go higher, Arsenal can safely walk away and the world will know its a City/West Ham problem not Arsenal penny pinching.

Which would then draw more eyes to City's financial doping.

It also puts pressure on Rice and West Ham. Given the claims Rice wants to go to Arsenal.

It has been said in here that West Ham's valuation of Rice is £100 million. Arsenal have now met that so that should mean Rice should be on his way to Arsenal today but we all know it's never as simple as that for some teams. Is West Ham now going to try and be greedy and wait till City put in a higher bid and then Arsenal an even higher bid because that is how clubs play it these days.

If everything we've been reading in the football press is truth about Rice and his clubs £100 million valuation of him and him wanting to join Arsenal then the deal should be done today or tomorrow because his valuation has been met. West Ham should see the offer this morning, accept it in principle with Rice on his way to Arsenal for the obligatory medical. Once pass the medical all transfer papers should be signed and deal done and we should see in either the evening editions of the papers or tomorrows edition of the papers that the transfer has been done but if we don't then we know what's been coming out of West Ham it's all lies.

Very good post and you make some excellent points, as does @laptech.

I think that further investigation of City's financial doping might be merited.

And City's charming little habit of stock-piling players (some of whom they field and use very sparingly) means that other clubs will not be able to obtain the services of that player even if Manchester City choose not to play him.
And it was rejected by West Ham.

They want money faster than proposed.

Hm.

So, they (West Ham) are not negotiating in good faith.

I wonder whether Rice himself is negotiating in good faith.
Well now we know whats up
Yes, indeed.

what the hell!!!! I just had to search for it and found it here

Disgraceful from West Ham in my opinion.
I'm not sure that I would go quite so far as to label West Ham's conduct "disgraceful", at least, not quite yet.

However, given that Arsenal have now met - or, are prepared to meet - the asking price - set by West Ham - for Declan Rice (which, in itself, will be a new British transfer record), it is a bit disingenuous (not to mention downright greedy, and an example of spectacular bad faith) on the part of West Ham, to reject this offer.

I am calling it disgraceful because in my opinion West Ham are looking for excuses to hold off on accepting Arsenals offer in the hope that City increase their offer but for that to happen West Ham need to find a way to stall and the tried and tested method of stalling is to claim they do not like the 'structure' of the deal. United, Liverpool, Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Spurs are some of the more well known clubs who have used the stalling tactic over the years. Yes sometimes it could be genuine as to not liking the structure but in my opinion it is mainly used as a stalling tactic to drive up the price when there are two or more teams bidding on a player.

Edit: I use the word 'disgraceful' because it has been well known of West Ham's terms for Rice. Those terms have now been met and yet West Ham find an excuse to not accept the bid.

Well, at this stage I do think that West Ham are negotiating in bad faith, given that Arsenal are now prepared to meet their stated price; bad and greedy faith.

City have pulled out if reports are to be believed

My cynical brain thinks they got involved to jack the price up but maybe they were interested *shrug*. But just barely matching Arsenal’s previous bid seems too mild to not be intentional

I believe that is what happened because I was reading a football article last night that pointed out why would City go for Rice when they already have a player in their squad that does the exact same job, Rodri, thus why would Pep want two of the exact same type of player, basically they wouldn't. So why would City bid for a player they know they do not need? answer, to jack up the transfer price and look what has happened, Arsenal have upped their offer, oh what a surprise..NOT

Edit: There could be a tactical reason for wanting to jack up the price which is if both teams are interested in other players, one team will try and get the the other teams budget exhausted by over spending on players meaning they have no money left which would allow the other team to put in unopposed bids. Am not sure though if City and Arsenal are both looking at the same players and thus City want to get Arsenal out of the way.

All the West Ham hate makes me chuckle.
Arsenal are negotiating with us to sell a player. We have stated what we wanted from the start.
£120 million
Or
£100 million plus a player.

I don’t see our position has changed. Paying the money slower than we would like is just another tactic to try and use the funds elsewhere by Arsenal. Clearly we need those funds to reinvest.
Every player we get linked with for the rest of the summer suddenly went up by £20 million because of the Rice deal.
