And no, one cannot write the Croats off.

A lengthy tradition, and an excellent history in the World Cup - which I think Brazil have been living off, my sense is that some of them - subconsciously, still think that they have the bottomless reserves of immense skill and footballing talent that they used to be able to lay claim to, and thus, expect to sail through to the latter stages of the competition without encountering the sort of opposition that can stop them in their tracks - is no guarantee of success in the current competition. They will be criticized for taking their foot off the gas after scoring. Not sure if that is true, but maybe their concentration slipped a little? Conversely, I am sure Croatia's mindset was just to stay in the game as long as possible. They were probably more mentally prepared for a tight, long match that went the distance.
Hahaha...wth was that free kick. But fair play it was ingenious.
I'd imagine that Argentina thought that they had the match done and dusted when Messi put away the penalty.Just like Louis Van Gaal drew it up, no doubt. The ultimate spoiler!
To be fair the keeper made a couple of terrific saves.Practice taking penalties, lads; practice taking penalties, especially when you are tired and stressed.

Agreed.Agreed.
Actually, I think that he (Martinez) is a superb keeper.
And I have long said (and written here, and elsewhere) that Arsenal should never have sold him.
However, that does not negate that fact that - at this level, above all - teams really need to have practiced taking penalties, and practiced taking penalties while exhausted and under pressure.
Harry Kane lost England the World Cup.
I guess after reading this FA should extend his contract till next World Cup.I'm no fan of Kane, and yes, he should have scored. But England were narrowly beaten in a tight match by a superior side, which is exactly what most predicted would happen. So while disappointing for England, it's not a giant fiasco or a choke. England's defense didn't need to let in two goals for instance...
Southgate is not beyond criticism, but much of the anti-Southgate punditry is absurd. He is one of England's most consistently successful managers now. He hasn't won the Euros or World Cup, but the list of England managers who have is pretty short last time I checked.
You could do a lot worse...and probably will, when he goes.I guess after reading this FA should extend his contract till next World Cup.
He took our two most dangerous players off lol.You could do a lot worse...and probably will, when he goes.
