Saudi Arabia were the only bidders for the 2034 because of FIFA rules not allowing countries from the same region to bid for the next world cup. The New York Times did a very good investigate piece of journalism on the bidding/hosting rights for the 2034 World Cup and found out some interesting facts. Two of the most important points of interest the NYT found are to do with FIFA's president Giannia Infantino in that he is alleged to have bent the rules to allow Saudi Arabia to be the host of the 2034 World Cup. One of the rules that was bent to accommodate a team from Asia/Oceania was that FIFA decided to allow the 2030 World Cup to be hosted across 3 continents, Africa, South America and Europe and in doing this it meant that due to FIFA eligibility rules, it meant the next world cup in 2034 could only be hosted by a country in Asia or Oceania. The second rule that was bent was the submission date for bids, it had been reduced to 25 days. Whilst there was interest from many Asian and Oceania countries to host the 2034 world cup, they could not meet FIFA's new deadline date which is when Saudi Arabia was see to come in with it's bid. With Saudi Arabia the only country to meet FIFA's new deadline date, they were the only country registered to host the world cup. This is why the NYT times said there is something not right with the way the bidding for the 2034 world cup was done because FIFA's president Infantino orchestrated it so Saudi Arabia would be the only country to host the 2034 World Cup.
