But how would you make the physical size smaller?

I can think of at least two ways to make the height smaller however width would be difficult. They could eliminate the excess space in the top and bottom bezels. They could also eliminate the home button and use capacitive resistance on the display itself.

What's the functional difference in bezel area between an Android device with on-screen buttons and the bottom bezel of an iPhone?

Why would the 6+ need 3GB of RAM? This is iOS not Android.

iOS doesn't run on fairy **** it needs RAM too. I would love to actually he able to keep more than 2 apps or so loaded and actually browse through multiple tabs without reloads.

I agree OP.

-Screen is great. One advantage over the AMOLED in the Note 4 (which is really nice) is that it gets noticeably brighter without having to get an auto boost from the sunlight. It also gets just as dim, for the most part, which is good for night time reading. AUTO BRIGHTNESS WORKS WAY WAY BETTER! You can actually customize an "auto bias", which is missing on US variants of Samsung phones for absolutely no reason.
-Build quality and materials are simply outstanding and unmatched, period.
-The general smoothness of the OS and basic functionality is also unmatched.
-Probably the best overall phone camera out at this time, or close to it.
-Battery life is ridiculous, and up there with the very best. Charging speed is also up there with the very best if you use a capable charger.
-Speakers are good (not M8 good), call quality is good, vibration good.

There are no screen advantages with the iPhone 6 plus screen when you compare it to the note 4, the note 4 gets plenty of brightness even when it's not in auto mode, the device is actually too bright for my eyes so I keep my note 4 on half brightness....if auto was on it would get to 750 nits in sunlight when you actually need increased brightness...the note 4 screen has no issues with brightness and hand on reviews will let you know this....:

To get back to the actual topic, the iPhone 6 plus is not close to being the perfect phone, there are too many things missing especially ram, multitasking ability, sluggishness due to not having the faster processor which is in the iPad air 2 which I love and bad software optimization for the large screen....and yes I do own a iPad air 2 as well

Could you elaborate? I keep hearing this, but I don't think I am following. Do you mean have more than two apps in the background, and then have multiple tabs on safari, and then browse through them without refreshing?

The reason I ask is because I do that, and I don't notice any refreshing on my tabs. When you say that, do you mean that you select a tab and it reloads? if so, that doesn't happen on my plus. I am trying to understand exactly what you guys are talking bout.

Yes. I had 3 tabs in safari, went to take a picture, then looked at it in the gallery. Went back and 2 of the 3 tabs reloaded.

It's just irritating as hell, I don't understand why Apple was too damn cheap to actually give this adequate RAM. I thought maybe I was exaggerating the effects of the paltry RAM but now that I actually have one, I wasn't, it's a pain.

Sometimes it takes more apps to reload, but usually 1 heavy one or just two will do it. If I open 3 or 4 you can definitely say good bye, always.

I love my 6 plus too. I don't know if it has overtaken the iPhone 4 as my favourite phone yet but I really do like it. I'm still not convinced about 2GB of RAM, as I only ever have one or two safari pages open at a time. Also my apps remain active for a reasonable amount of time before they refresh.

Yeah i dont really have anything refreshing for a while actually unless i have a few safari tabs open (which i usually dont and usually just close them out, habit of mine) but apps in the background remain perfect and come back to life basically instantenously without reloading 85% of the time

What are you talking about sluggishness? The 6 and 6 Plus are both currently the fastest smartphones on the market right next to the international Note 4 version and my 6 Plus is not sluggish in anyway at all

And of course the 6 Plus has screen advantages over the Note 4 , DisplayMate highlights both on the Note 4 and 6 Plus their advantages and disadvantages over each other. The 6 Plus also performs better in the sunlight despite the Note 4 having higher brightness when in sunlight

Nearly Perfect...

My wonderful iPhone 6+ is relatively fault free with but one problem so bad... it's nearly a deal breaker.

Especially since nothing of the sort ever happens with my Nexus 6, nor any other fine Android phone I have.

Now take a deep breathe haters, because this post isn't going where you have already assumed it will.

I NEVER pit one platform over the other, I use and enjoy both. So move on to your next target.

Problem : touch sensitivity varies from working very well to not recognizing input at all.

This is my third 6+ and they've all done it to one degree or another. It also only seems to occur with the OEM Apple keyboard. It's particularly annoying when typing a post here in the forum and it stops registering input.

I'd like feedback from others who have personally experienced this.

Although I know haters and lurkers won't be able to control themselves and are bound to jam up this thread. Insecurity seems to grip them and cause them to launch personal attacks when they have nothing to contribute. That's speaking from personal experience not heresay.

I've owned every single iPhone of a previous model since day one, each has served me well. Why this fine phone has this seriously annoying issue is beyond Apple's grasp thus far.

No the bezels are fine. They help grip the phone without touching the screen.

The surface area is handy. If they got rid of it, it wouldnt change the experience of its size, but would change how you can hold it.

For example in Real Racing, you steer by holding the bezels, if that was gone, it would be all screen and nothing to hold on to comfortably.

The phone has the best screen on the market, and the best battery on the market.

The RAM issue doesn't affect anyone in day to day use. I have never had a chronic tab reload, I'm still wondering what it takes to trigger that.

I think since all phones are just screens with batteries behind them, I guess you could say for the tech we have available, its close to perfect.

You've just described the Xperia Z3, one of the most underrated phones out there.

I second the Z3 being amazing, lightning fast performance with its 3GB RAM. Used it for a month before changing to the iPhone 6 and I actually miss the Z3.

Not for me. Its a great phone, don't get me wrong, but its no wear near perfection.

What I don't like about the IP6+.
Thinness - and included in that, the issue with bending. No matter how much you dismiss the issue, its still something that occurred for some people.

Slippery, the phone is much slicker then prior models.

Bezel is larger, they could have made it look even better had they decided to shrink the bezel.

1 GB of ram, I don't mind it, but I know others that this is a major issue.

Overall, its a great phone, I love the larger size, but I'd not say its a perfect phone or near perfection - just my $.02

In general, I tend to be a malcontent about most things. But you've got to be kidding me with that list.

Not a fan of iPhone 6/6+ overall but i think 6 is far better than 6+
Because Apple sucks when it comes to battery life and first time they made phablet size
I have switched on the past from iPhone 4S to > 5 inches Android device
Huge step and during half a year or more, i admitted i could never go back to smaller screen anymore
More battery life, more comfortable screen blabla etc...
From this year i came back to the normal screen size phone (Z3 Compact which seems to be almost matched with 6 screen size), i will never sacrifice one hand ergonomic anymore.
Jobs was almost right, smartphone tends to be used with one hand only
6+, Note 4, all those giant phablets should be classed as tablet. Period
Its a good small tablet but awful smartphone due to its size.

The 6+ is closer in size to the 5s than to the ipad mini, I don't have tiny hands so to me and many others it's a perfect sized phone.

All the whining in the world will not get phones that are closer in size to the 5s than the ipad mini reclassified as a tablet which they clearly are not. Jobs pushed one hand use because apple had not moved up in sized, period. I guarantee if he were here he would have said these were the best phones apple ever made just as cook did.

I also disagree with most using smartphones one handed, I see most using them two handed....even the tiny iphone 4 and 5's.

I've commented on this a few times and people just say that I've got a bad device, or that I need to reinstall iOS. I believe this problem affects many, if not all, iPhone 6+. My inconsistently unresponsive touchscreen doesn't just affect typing on the stock keyboard, it happens when pressing app icons on the home screen, and in the apps themselves. I have to press icons and links on the screen two or three times before the screen registers my press. Not every time, but at least half the time.

No, Jobs knew better than anyone
Tim Cook is CEO, Jobs, was more than that
Jobs never went to the market, it was market going to him
Want a story about Jobs?
Apple dev, designers and engineer brought him an prototype of first iPod
Without a doubt, he threw it into an aquarium and asked them:
''its too big, too heavy, it doesnt even float, it it was lighter, it does''
Back to work, they eventually made first iPod with desired size and weight dimensions
He knew perfectly what customer expect from product
When he claimed, iPhone 4 was perfect size for one hand use, he was partially right
Current phones have bigger screen but thinner bezel, that why 4'3 - 4'7 still fits good on one hand only
But anything above 5', it would be ridiculously unusable from one hand
Personaly i like using phone while driving, i cannot drive and use phone if it was a damn phablet
I always send text through one hand while the other hand is free 🙄
Back to Jobs, he would never accept to follow market orientation, ok all concurrence started earlier to release phablet, it doesnt mean its the right way to go

doesnt affect mine and many 6 plus users here on the forums, so it actually does seem like your device is defective because not one time have i experienced a unresponsive touch screen on my 6 plus and have had it so far for over 2 months now, sounds and looks like you just got a bad batch from Apple's line which is unfortunate and sucks, mine and many other users with the 6 plus dont have this issue at all so no it isnt on "all 6 plus's"

You've stated it very well.

In my many years with iPhones, what makes this issue such a glaring standout is the fact that previously my iPhones had the finest, most accurate touch screens of any Smartphone.

people complained about touch issues with the 5 and 5s because of the in-cell touch panel they used. its the same **** every year. the 6 plus and 6 are very responsive

The only problems I had with my i5 were loose volume buttons and dreadful battery life. The touchscreen was super-responsive and the device was fast. My 6+ isn't very responsive, quite the opposite in fact and too many people have commented on this issue for it to be the odd defective device. Battery life problems are ten a penny for every iPhone but lag? When was that ever mentioned even once before the 6+ came along?

Yeah my 6+ actually isn't as smooth as I would have thought. I can see visibly low frame rate in the notification shades and sometimes occasional (very rare) slowdown or stutter in games, maps can get a little low on the frame rate (not too big of a deal only when I'm going crazy with it), and then the browser at times.

Probably all of it is RAM/downscaling. To be honest at this point iPhone seems to be about the same as android phones smoothness wise, the note 4 is probably no different than this. Makes me question as to whether or not I made the right choice.

In my opinion, the 6+ feels fairly beta, coupled with the unoptimized apps and slight performance difference from the 6. For 949 dollars I am slightly disappointed but I am unsure whether or not I will return and try my hand at android.

Honestly, likely I will not, but we shall see.

Too many people have commented? Not really, a few posts from Macrumors doesnt mean much at all and there has been absolutely no reports of this in the news or has never been mentioned in any reviews of the new iPhones. Clearly it is your device seems to be the odd one out as many in the "is your iphone 6 defective in anyway" thread say that their device is perfectly fine including mine.

So yeah it does seem like you actually have a defective 6 Plus if the touchscreen doesnt work well because mine works absolutely flawless and is instantenously responsive all the time, it happens, Apple is pushing out more iPhones out the factory then ever, there is bound to be some bad iPhones out there in the wild, people and even developers complained about the "touch issues" with the iPhone 5 and 5S but that was short lived

came from a 6 to a 6 Plus and notice absolutely really no performance difference at all, and I find most of the apps i use are already optimized and run fantastic and look great when they are optimized

At least it is for me. Great battery life, Gorgeous screen, Huge( benifits me because im 6"3) . The closest thing that comes close to it was the LG g2 which i loved. This is certainly a phone i will keep for 2 years .

I agree on all points except the two years thing. As much as I want to, I'm sure as always I'll get a new one next year

it not recognizing touch at random times seems to be related to iOS8. Especially if you've had three 6+'s

People complain about this on Apple support. I sort of feel I experienced it going from 7.1.2->8.1.1 on iPad mini retina

YMMV and some people may be more sensitive to it than others.

I believe your suggestion it's attributed to iOS 8 is correct.

Each of the three iPhone 6 models I've had did it, and I tested them for a full month before rejecting then returning them to the Apple Store. On a positive note each time the problem was acknowledged by the genius bar. Fast courteous service has been my experience which lessens the frustration the issue causes.

As a very long standing loyal Apple Customer I'll take a wait and see position. A new version of the fairly buggy iOS 8 may solve this in the long run.

Worse case if it continues like Antennagate did, I'll just blow it out when next year's model is released. It's to be expected. Second gen iPhones have always been better.

Who knows, it might be deliberate on Apple's part, to assure high volume sales. 🙂
