I agree, this form factor is here to stay for 2 years.

OP, do you have a credit card with $700 available? Go buy a 6 outright to use for a few days and see how you like it, that way you dont have to mess with resetting your line and all that. Then return the 6+ through your carrier and order a 6, once you get that, return the 6 you bought outright on the credit card.

I bought the 6 Plus outright from my Apple Store last Friday. I love the phone for its screen and capabilty but it is cumbersome....not so much to hold but just putting it in my pockets and plugging in to my car. I have my iPad air to surf and run apps and do the phone is mainly for calls and texting.
I am going back to the Apple Store tomorrow to look at the 6 and I may well exchange for a 6. If I find the screen too small then I can change again within the 14 day period

I love the size of my six plus. Currently using it with the leather case that apple makes. I'm coming from several big phones most recently the lg G3 and although the 6+ is bigger, I've gotten used to it. That's not to say that the 6 does not feel nice in the hand as well. I'm just a big screen kind of guy.

Returning the + for the 6 was something I did two days ago and it was 100% the right decision. The + is a bad design: large, unwieldy, the opposite of elegant. The 6 just feels right.

Did this yesterday for many of the same reasons you listed, OP. The 6+ is great, my gripe was with the form factor as well and the phone not being as easy to handle as I was used to.

If you're willing to adjust the way you hold/use your phone, stick with the 6+. If not, go with the 6. Personally, despite the added benefits of the plus, I wasn't.

Returning my 6+ wasn't easy. I was in love with that phone, and I really wanted to make it work for me. I had all these fantasies of having the larger screen with me while I was waiting for a haircut, sitting on a train, relaxing on the sofa, etc.

But each day I owned it, another usage scenario would pop up that would add another item to the cons list. It was too big for me to use comfortably in the gym. While walking through the city, I couldn't quickly take it out of my pocket to change the music I was listening to. It didn't feel safe in my pocket while bike-riding. I couldn't really use it while walking the dog because it wasn't stable enough in one hand. There were many times when I would want to check something on my phone, but I resisted because it was just too cumbersome to take out my large phone / mini tablet.

I exchanged my 6+ for a 6 on Tuesday morning, and instantly I knew I had made the right decision. Sure, I miss the larger screen, but I once again feel like I have a phone that's sleek, mobile, and ready to go at all times. Not once have I regretted the exchange. Absolutely love the 6.

That said, the iPhone 6 is the right phone for me - not everybody. My dad is getting the Plus, and I have no doubt that he'll be happy with it. He's not as active as I am, and for his usage patterns, the Plus just makes more sense.

Just be prepared to be looked at in the Apple Store as if you're crazy... There are a lot of people fiending for the Plus now, and several people around me couldn't believe that I was exchanging the 6+ for a 6. Even the Apple Store employee told me he was disappointed, because he himself was waiting on a Plus.

I've had my 6+ for a couple days now and it's growing on me. For anyone reading this thread who can't make up their mind or is just curious, here's my two cents:

1. If you're a heavy user of Siri, the Plus will encourage you to use it more. It's taken a couple years of work, but I think Siri has finally matured. The service makes far less mistakes than it used to. I had a 5S and even before the 6+ came out, I'd been using Siri to text almost exclusively while I drive. So the 6+ actually encourages safety because it's nearly impossible to one hand type on it. Can't stop texting and driving, but want to? Get a 6+ :)
2. Two handed typing in portrait mode is SOOOO much nicer than on a 5/5S.
3. I plan to buy a Apple Watch, so carrying my phone with me while i exercise will be a moot point. Furthermore, I already use an iPod nano. For those who exercise with their phones, the 6+ is definitely an obstacle. But maybe it's time to find something smaller and better suited for exercise? Just a thought...
4. Reading content is so much nicer on the 6+. As is watching videos. I have never read an eBook on my 5/5S because of the screen size. Last night I read a couple chapters of The Martian on my 6+ and loved reading on it.

I think the 6 is also too big! I'm still using a 4. I so hoped that :apple: would bump the specs on the 5 form factor. I'd have bought that in an instant. And there's plenty of 'thickness' for them to have filled it with that fancy optical stabilised camera! That would have been so perfect (for me). This is a real shame. I feel I've come to the end of a long period of using a convergent device. And now I'm looking at splitting functions off again. Keeping the 4 (It still works as a phone, ipod, ok camera and buying an ipad to keep up with games. I know I'm in the minority here. But this big phone thing seems all style at the cost of true function. I want a phone for my pocket, but I also want to put other things in there too... Like my hands!
B
p.s. I know there are alternatives to :apple: but I'm keen on the integration and the gaming.

Agree with everything said here. I am a long time lurker and first time poster, but felt like I needed to say something. I love the bigger screen. Watching content was incredible on that thing. Overtime and every time I went to pick it up I worried about dropping it and then once in hand it just felt uncomfortable. The 6 is a great size and feels amazing in my hand, and I have XL glove sized ones.

I think apple really made the wrong decisions on size here. 4.5" and 5" would have been the way to go IMO. It gives the 4" screen upgraders a way to ease towards a bigger screen and people who want a huge screen something they can actually hold.

I read this entire thread and am shocked at how polite and on topic every single post has been. Someone should archive this and save it for future generations to read.

All kidding aside I had ordered the 6 and tried the 6+ before I went through with my purchase and though 6+ has a few extra features, for me it was to big for everyday use. Got the 6 and LOVE it.

I have entertained the thought about exchanging my plus. However, the more I thought about where I use my phone (in the car over USB or Bluetooth) and at work at lunch I don't really need perfect one handed usability.

I purchased a Bluetooth stereo headset with a mic to talk on the phone when I am walking around shopping etc with the phone in my pocket.

I just love the screen and the additional battery life is key for me. I had issues with my 5 (albeit it does need a battery recall replacement) lasting a full day and would be constantly worried about it dying when I need it most. My wife had the same issue with her 5 and she doesn't have a faulty battery.

I wish they made the 6 in a 5" and a little thicker form factor to fit a larger battery in it and I think I would have gotten the 6.

The 6+ return for the 6 creep has entered my head, those that have done it, t...

Another 6+ user here thinking about returning the 6+ for a 6. As many have said I have not realized how many instances I use the phone one handed which is nearly impossible to do so securely with the 6+. Also I go to the gym 4-5 days a week and this phone just gets in my way, and sometimes can be seen peeking out of my gym pants pocket. I like to use my phone for calls at the gym mostly when I am expecting calls. Also when laying down before I go to bed I like to check my emails and what not and I just can't do it with this huge phone. Another popular instance of mine is using the phone one handed while eating, on break at work and whatnot. I just feel like the 6+ is too big for my lifestyle. I cannot hold it securely without feeling that I may drop it, and I definitely don't want to feel like I have to use a case but I hardly use cases and they don't fit with many accessories and I also like the original form factor of apples phones. I purchased the 6 for my sister and I've been asking her to let me see her phone every so often throughout the day. Every time I grab the 6 I feel it's too small, mostly because I've been using the 6+. But after a day or 2 after I exchange it if I decide to I'm sure I'll get used to the 6. the 6+ just doesn't fit my lifestyle the way I needed it to. Have had my 6+ about 5 days so I'll give it another few days or so then decide. Don't want to give up the screen and battery life but as I said just doesn't fit my lifestyle as well either. Decisions, decisions.

@Meltdownblitz you will not regret it. The longer you sit with the larger screen the harder it will be to go towards a smaller form factor. It's so alluring!

I think my best argument for returning it is when I physically went to the store. Before I cleared it I kept getting texts and it was in the box. Overtime I opened the box I thought it would fly out and then when I tried to answer the texts in line it was almost impossible to type one handed. There will be times when I need to type and hold something. Way too cumbersome and couldn't not do that for 1-2-3 years. But boy do I miss that screen.

I posted this in another thread just yesterday - same topic.

I had a 128gb 6+ delivered to me on release day. Out of contract, and bought it for $950+ tax. I loved the screen - most beautiful thing ever (even better than the iPad Air i think). I used it as my main carry device over the weekend and for two days at work. I did everything I would normally do with the phone - I took it on a long run, brought it out in jeans to dinner with friends, took pictures with it, used it as my gps in the car, and overall just did all the things you normally do with a smartphone. I'm not really into watching movies, playing games, or watching videos on my phone - typically do that at home on my 27" lcd or on the Apple TV connected to a big flat screen.

I absolutely loved the screen. Showing photos to people, and browsing the web was killer. Battery seemed to last forever too. FaceTime calls were great - didn't feel compelled to take out my iPad. Typing was a dream with how big the kb was. But the real downside for me was how cumbersome it was to just use the device casually. I had to consciously think about taking the device out of my pocket. You know those times when you're in a group of people, and want to pull out your phone discreetly to check something and put it away before anyone notices? Couldn't do it, so I just left the phone in my pocket. I couldn't use it to quickly pull up directions to a restaurant, or fire off a quick text message. I noticed going to work that I typically pull my phone out and use it while walking from the parking garage to the office - and I never thought about how I usually do this one-handed because I have to carry my bag, and concentrate on not getting hit by a car while walking. I couldn't do this comfortably or efficiently with the 6+. Using the 6+ was amazing, but required effort. If my phone use was relegated to times when I was sitting down and had both hands free, I'd take the 6+ any day. But yesterday, I picked up a 6, and the device just felt way more natural. I could use it just the way I used all the previous iPhones before it. I'll miss the giant beautiful screen, but the 6 just fit my lifestyle better.

I ordered a 6 and a 6 Plus, and both were received last Friday. I was going to use each one for a few days and decide which one I wanted to keep and return the other one. I opened the 6 first and loved it, opened the 6 Plus and it just seemed impractical for me. I run a lot and knew there was no way I could run with the Plus in my pocket comfortable, so I shipped the Plus back on Monday.

Read this post earlier and thought it was very well written.

Interesting how i Love the competition and choice brought to Apple by other brands, but the choice within Apple is so tough :) can't go wrong with either and my only concern at this point is if I'd just get used to the 6+ and be able to easily manage it

I'm at the mall now and they would exchange it for me today or tomorrow was told they're is some stock for these issues. I am going to try it and if I missed the larger phone I will have apple (over the phone) send me a 6+ and send back the 6.

I love my 6 Plus. My friend bought a 6, and I played with it a bit while I waited for my Plus. The 6 is a great size, but I don't actually use my phone one handed very often, wear a suit so it fits fine in my jacket pocket, and really love the extra battery life.

Is it big? Yes. Could Apple have made it smaller? Yes - the LG G3 is a great example of how small a 5.5" phone can be. That would mean relocating Touch ID however, and I don't see Apple doing that until it can be put behind the screen.

However, I'm definitely getting used to the size. Picked up my iPhone 5 and was really surprised at how cramped it felt. Looking forward to apps being optimised for the 6 Plus and developers taking advantage of the larger screen.

This is what I did. Bought a 6 yesterday and used it all day. I know that the form factor will work for me. So now I am trying the Plus for the rest of the return period to make sure I like it.

I have the 6+ and love it. I realize that it's not for everybody just like the 6 isn't for everybody. I love the 6+ b/c I can actually do real work on it. The 6 would just be too small for me. Also, video watching is an absolute experience on this thing. That beautiful 1080p retina HD display is truly a thing to behold. I compared video watching on the 6+ with the 6 and the 6+ is just better. To steal a phrase from Apple, it just works. I was watching Netflix on my 6+ and it was awesome. I even showed an HD video to a couple of customers at my job and they were absolutely blown away. I love this phone, just like alot of others love theirs....despite some i6 owners trying to desperately down the 6+ just so make their purchase of the 6 seem like a good idea. Not necessarily talking about the op but there are some on here who do that

Respectfully disagree. I don't get the sense that anyone on this thread is doing that. Everyone is going to champion their choice because they made it. I still want the 6+ and the screen it has, but it just didn't work. If it feels good to you get it. Nothing is going to be perfect either or do everything single thing we want it to. All a matter of perspective.

My wife ended up returning her 6+ for the 6 but mine ain't going nowhere. I actually urged her to do so. I understand it's not for everyone. It's a beast. For me personally, when I played with the 6, it did not feel like too much of an upgrade over the 5s. It still gave me the 5s feeling whereas the 6 plus gave me a while notha experience. I work in real estate and I could actually work on the 6 plus. Not so much with the 6. The 6 plus is good if you can handle it. To anyone on the fence, try them both out and you'll know which one you want. For me, the 6 plus is the one. It's like a tv in my pocket.

And I thought the ipad decision was hard last year. This one is tough. Yep, the Plus all about the fantastic screen.

What's bothering me though is the landscape mode. I can't type worth anything in landscape because my thumbs won't reach that far. The kb is crap and needs to be split. But even beyond that is the design of the apps. Yes, it's like the ipad but this screen is too small for it. What works in landscape on the ipad doesn't work on the Plus that well. Take email for example. The split view looks horrible.

And so, I usually lock it in portrait mode. And only use landscape for video or pics. It definitely isn't replacing the ipad Mini.

But returning it for the 6? I still have my 5S and don't feel the 6 would be worthwhile. The increase in screen size isn't significant to me. PPI is the same. The 5S camera is good enough for me. About the only thing I'd really miss but can still do without for now is Verizon HD voice. Nope, can't see me doing this.

I haven't decided yet but the Plus is growing on me.

Ugh. I have been a longtime phablet fan, I had a Note 3 for a while that I used as a mini-tab and backup phone to my iPhone 5. I preordered a 6 Plus and still waiting on it but I just went to the Apple store to get hands on time with both the 6 and 6 Plus.

While I still can type on the 6 Plus one handed, albeit much slower than the 6, and the screen on the 6 Plus was superior, the 6 felt PERFECT in the hand. I mean just the feeling in the hand is enough to make me now reconsider the 6 Plus. I could type one handed on the 6 as fast as my 5. The 6 Plus fit in my pockets with no problem.

I honestly feel that I would be happy with either, and for different reasons. I was picturing my self walking around town when I was holding each one, and the 6 feels like it would be much easier to use in every day situations, while the 6 Plus would be amazing to have while at home or sitting in a waiting room.

I'm torn now. I got about 45 minutes straight of hands on time with both at the same time, but sitting in the Apple store is not the same as real life usage. Now I feel the need to go back to the store and get even more hands on time.

I don't see that as bashing the 6+ or making other people feel bad about their purchase. It's an opinion. I feel the same as those sentiments to a degree. It's all a matter of taste. This forum seems to get personal really quickly as I suppose most forums do. But this is a forum about technology that is supposed to be fun and make life easier!
