I know the announcement is on Wednesday but does anyone know if apple usually makes the product available at Apple Stores the day it is announced. For example does anyone know if the Nano was available the day it was announced or did it take a while to get to stores? If so how many days?

PS: I know it will prob be available on the online apple store on announcement day but I am worried more about the retail store cause I don't want to pay for over night shipping.

Why not? That's the fun of it! I live on an island, so I don't have an apple store near me, so i'm definitely ordering one the minute the apple online store is up, with overnight shipping.

Mostly because I am trying to save a little money if I can and I am near an apple store. Anyone know when the ipods usually make it to stores after an announcement? Will it be prob be friday that week? Also if I were to order from the online store with over night will I get it Thursday or Friday due to the 24 hours processing time?

I've had orders from Apple ship the same day. Especially if you order at like, 11:30AM, right after the event.. it should ship the same day and arrive thursday.

Recap

Ok, looks like most people agree with the Fantastic 4 iPod line: Shuffle, Nano, Mini (w/Video) and iPod.

However, it's the iPod Touch model that has caused serious debating over cannibalization of the iPhone, which is still unreleased to the rest of the world. This last bit is what makes me think Apple will somehow restrict the iPod's Wi-Fi, if any.

I used to think Apple would take care of the iPhone Europe launch before releasing an iPod with touchscreen, but that seems less likely. In this case, marketing-wise, Apple needs to market the iPod Touch/Video with more reservations and watered down features than imagined.

Therefore, it should be assumed that it will not have Safari, Mail, Maps or any of the iPhone apps, besides the iPod. Instead, here are a few realistic possible apps/features, with their respective probabilities:

-iTunes Store Mobile. 70%
-Optional Scroll Wheel interface (simply disabled via settings panel). 40%
-iPhone-iPod media streaming/sharing. 70%
-"What am I listening to" (Wi-Fi-based interaction with nearby iPods). 30% Reason: would have to enable entire iPod line with Wi-Fi/BlueTooth. :(
-Video out via audio jack 99%
-AppleTV RC/Streaming. 80%
-Customizable EQ. 75%
-Lyrics display. 99%
-Document viewer. 99%
-iPhone keyboard-based media search. 90%
-iPhone/iPodMultiTouch Games 70%

Literally, longest weekend ever. Can't wait:(

I kind of agree with the 4 lines... though I think that the stubby "Mini" iPod will replace the current 5.5g iPods. At similar prices.

As such, the touch iPod will either
1) cost significantly more and have lots of great features. As it costs more, it won't cannibalise iPhone (and even if it did, as long as Apple makes the same profit why would they care?)
2) not have wifi etc.

Very interested in Thursday's announcement (Wednesday YOUR time...).

come on Don,

give us some more hints. Since you know it all!

At least one model will be hard drive based, and updates to Mac OS X apps such as Events in iPhoto, will be implemented into the features on the iPod.

I figured I might as well post that much info, because I told someone that via a PM, and I want to be fair.

You guys all know that you DO subconsciously like the fact that you have to wait till wednesday, right? It's part of the fun!

And i'm not at liberty to divulge any information regarding physical dimensions, screen size/type, hard drive size, or any new features.

But I can say that Apple is playing hardball with the rest of the industry, and it looks as if they're attempting to actually take over the media player market 100%.

hahaha i would rather just know right now ;) do you think information will be leaked before the announcement on wednesday?

i think it will have more of an iPhone look than that, but thats still a great mock up

i don't. i think what really feeds the fire on the ipod stealing sales from the iphone is because people expect an iphoneless ipod which looks exactly like an iphone. if it looks like that it could have similar features but remain an ipod, not a wannabe iphone.

i think that theres a strong chance the ipod will have wifi with safari. the main reason i think that is so when a pc user uses their ipod with osx and safari it will help convince them to switch to mac. hell it worked for me with my 3g ipod and its os doesnt even resemble os x

Nice mock up. I do think the UI will be more iPhone like. Apple will departure from the iPod Ui and go to something sleek like the iPhone UI. But I like the concept of the virtual click wheel. They should keep that. That's the iPod trademark.
I hope the screen is a tad bigger than the iPhone as well.

very well said, but i think the screen is perfect in size if they make it bigger than it would be difficult to hold in ur palm
