The big, fat Halo 3 thread

It keeps freezing my system in random spots. Happened twice so far, and I've only played it twice. I've been playing Solo mode, and it's locked my system up twice. I'm pretty pissed. I have a 2 month old 360 elite, btw.

Anyone else having this problem?

that is the beginning of the three red lights setting in. Exact same thing happened to me. After time it won't be game specific, it will happen with all of them. And then happen more often. And then it will go dead.

sorry.

So 4 players on 1 screen and 1 xbox?

It's just confusing when it says local, I take that to mean local LAN.

agreed, it happened to me with gears alone, then with all my games! on christmas eve to boot!

So far it seems to be the same as the other two...

In retrospect, I want my $60 back...

I guess I just don't understand why you and the OP didn't like Halo 1 or 2, but you went ahead and bought 3.

I've played through about 2/3 of the campaign. It certainly doesn't live up to the hype, but what could?

I'd say if you don't plan to use the online multiplayer it might not be worth $60. If you do it's probably worth more than $60.

Sorry, yes, I take that to mean local on one box and one tv.

Going off the website at least; my copy will arrive today (not yesterday like I thought/hoped).

Also says system link: 2-16 so (again) I think we can safely assume 1-4 per Xbox 360 system and tv, with a max of 4 systems/tvs linked together.

If you pay $60 and up for a game and finish it within 2 days, thats not money well spent. I would be rather ticked.

I'd wager a guess that's why they included an extensive online multiplayer option.

Do you expect first person shooters to be 40-50 hour games?
Didn't think so.
10 hours if you're lucky, anything over that is a bonus.

Sorry, I won't be complaining about Halo 3's length when I finish the game (which will probably take 6-7 hours for me as well) because a) I can play multiplayer til the cows come home and b) there are plenty of other great games to play as well.

Seriously...I think Halo's screwed no matter what happens because the hype will do it in just like it did the second one. There's so much hype, that if someone plays it and doesn't see sliced bread #2, they're disappointed. For most everyone else - the hype is so elevated to ludicrous levels that they're expecting everything AND the kitchen sink and they'll be disappointed as well.

IMO:
It's Halo. If you've enjoyed either of the other two, you'll enjoy the third one. It'll be a good game. Don't expect it to cure cancer or feed the starving children of Africa and you'll be ok.

HL2 took me a good 15 hours to complete, Ep1 about 6 (which really was too short, by any standards). It can be done but the pace is so much faster in Halo. They don't have puzzles, it's just straight on shooter. But now I'm preaching to the choir :p

Halo has always seemed like a good deal for me because of the replayability. I can't manage to put myself through HL2 again, but I've completed Halo 1 many times over in co-op mode (biggest selling point IMO). I wouldn't mind spending £35 for a 10 hour game if it's as replayable as Halo 1.

I played the first 2 Halo's and agree that they were way overhyped. They were not nearly as good as the hype made them out to be. I haven't played Halo 3, yet So, I can't give an honest comment on it right now.

Side note: I still wish the original Halo came out in 1999 instead of being modified and delayed to launch with the Xbox. I would probably have enjoyed it way more, then.

If you look at this post on bungie.net

It says in the first question:

Q: Do I need Broadband and Live to play Halo 3 multiplayer?

A: No, LAN games (games played on a Local Area Network) and System Link games are still possible. For two 360 systems, simply connect them together with any Ethernet cable (360 automatically does the “crossover” process. For more than two players, up to a maximum of 16, a LAN or router(s) will be required. This will give you access to Co-op, (up to four players, a maximum of two per screen) Multiplayer (up to 16 players) and Forge. For more advanced features, such as File Share and more, a Live account and Broadband connection are required.

To me, that means if you want to play more than 2 player co-op or multiplayer locally, you will need a second system. Or maybe i am reading that wrong.

Just got my copy. Traded in a few old DS games and picked up a copy of Warhawk and the BT headset too.

Now if only I had frigging time to play the games I buy  I swear it's been one of those weeks / months / years.... :(

I haven't played much of HL2 but will soon once I get Orange Box.
I have played through HL and Opposing Force...I remember maybe 10-ish hours?
(spent between hours and hours and hours of TFC :D)

It's great when shooters are longer, but again...shooters aren't long games and they really never have been. Some of them have other things to keep you occupied, whether multiplayer or other "perks" (like the unlockables in Goldeneye [N64] or achievements on the 360) but I'd never buy an FPS and expect 15+ hours out of it in a single player campaign. Maybe it's just me though. ;)

I don't know what's worse...having a pile of games and no time to play them (you) or being broke, not having a pile of games and slightly more time to play them if they were owned (me). :D

Glass half empty, half full I guess. ;)
I'm always bumming out because of being broke and wanting games, but I suppose it's equally sucky to have all the games but no time to play them. :)

Has anyone gotten a local party (more than one player) onto Live multiplayer? I tried last night, but gave me a message that each person on my system had to have a unique Live account... that seems unbelievable. It's especially odd since there are three days of free Gold access anyway.

I have a great idea. Since you are broke and MacRumorUser doesn't have the time....why doesn't he buy the game, send it to you to play. In return, you create game saves at key points in the game and tell him all about what's going on in the game . When you're done with the game, you send it back to him with a copy of those game saves. That way, he can maximize his time by only playing the key parts of the game and you save a lot of money by playing the game for free (with just a little bit of extra work on your part). It's a win-win situation. :)

Really getting into this now, I was a bit 'Meh' after the first 2 Chapters, but I've just got to the end of the 5th one and I'm loving it.

It is a bit short though, does actually seem it as well, if you know what I mean, you can tell.

Happy though. Have to crack the Multi-Player out soon. ;)

I was playing against people last night who seemed to be doing just that. Three people with the same screen name followed by a number to differentiate them. So it should work, but it could be related to the problems MS was having with the deluge of people on Live.

You really spent too much time thinking that one out :p :D

Gamefly?

Anyways. We had a little 4 player deathmatch action, then we took out mini army and went online. It was a total "meh" fest until we ended up on some big party social thing on a big desert map. Then it became very fun, driving around on that Elephant truck :D

But single player? oooh boy was that dull. I'm glad I watched that ending now as there is no way I'll ever be awake enough to complete it. Graphics, or the faces at least looked terrible.

Better multiplayer maps than Halo 2 (no Sidewinder still?) so I can imagine this being on our LAN party playlist for a while. I couldn't play this completely online. Really is a party FPS.

Side note- that menu system was a bit confusing at first.

Nothing beats a good LAN with friends, and I mean NOTHING.
