That picture is almost exactly what I want except I'd like to keep the iPhone's curves. I like how there's no sharp edges. After a time it gets annoying to hold. As someone else mentioned earlier, the aluminum may not be feasible because of the radio.

Yeah, from what I understand they had to drop the EDGE look when they went 3G, but then again the iPad 3G has that black, plastic piece on top for just that reason.

One thing that might not make it feasible to do this design is that the antenna sits on the bottom of the phone on the 3G/3G S model. If they're adding another camera I doubt they're moving the antenna to the top.

Sure would love to see this design though, but yeah those lines might need to be softer.

How are they doing it in the 3G iPad though? Does it have the black stripe as well?

It's interesting to see how different people's needs and wants are for the new iPhone.

Almost all of the stuff on this list is trivial to me, except the better battery life and better casing.

I want the next iPhone to look like this:

iPhone-G4.jpg

With the new A4 CPU, IPS panel with higher resolution, more internal memory, more storage, forward facing camera, multi tasking, orientation lock button, and general overhaul of the UI.

This in a 32gig, I'm sold. My contract is up in May ! wooohoo !

#1 wish - tethering, if AT&T can not come thru, then dump them. Matter of fact if the IPhone "4G" does not have tethering (e.g. legal, no jailbreak required, reasonable monthly cost) then it better be the most fantastic phone ever to be conceived; otherwise, assuming HTC EVO holds true on the tethering front, I'm jumping.

I wouldn't mind this design, either, ideally in a 64GB. More storage and better battery life are the 2 main things I'm interested in. All of the other stuff would be gravy, sure, but I'm not gonna die if some of them are missing.

Yes, EXACTLY the spec i'm hoping for, and if it looks like the picture you posted it'd almost be damn near perfect! ;)

Oh the release yime has nothing to do with the Evo Apple has been sucesful doing what they are doing for 4 years! it's HTC, Google Nexus trying to Knock Apple down not the other way around!

Last time I checked, summer of '07 to summer of '10 is 3 years unless my math is wrong. Its a business, every company wants to be at the top, Apple isn't immune sitting on its ass.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's how it looks, that would bring it in line with the iPad, iMac and the Macbooks. I wouldn't mind that at all, beats what I have right now.

The iFixit teardown says that the iPad only has 256mb instead of the 512mb they originally reported. I hope I made a mistake somewhere because if the A4 with this amount of RAM ends up in the new iPhone multitasking will be terrible.

I'd be really curious to see if the 3G version has 512.

The iPhone is great, but the 3GS is what it should have been in 2007.

Whatever happens, they better be comparable to Sprint's HTC Evo. Sprint has better coverage, more data reliability, and much better pricing. With specs like the following, Apple better come up with at least something that is a useful upgrade.

rate Facebook, Twitter and more into a single flow of updates
* Visual voicemail
* Messaging – personal and business email, IM and text messaging
* 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot capability – connects up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices
* 4G data speeds (WiMAX) – peak download speeds of more than 10 Mbps; peak upload speeds of 1 Mbps; average download speeds of 3-6 Mbps.
* 3G data speeds (EVDO Rev A.) – peak download speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps; peak upload speeds of 1.8 Mbps; average download speeds of 600 kbps-1.4 Mbps.
ENTERTAINMENT
* 8MP autofocus camera with dual LED flash and 1.3MP front-facing camera

Oh, Apple. Behind... Again... Still...

really? a built-in kick stand?

When Android catches up in terms of offering the ultimate refined user experience, then we can start comparing minute things like megapixels and kickstands.

What do you guys think the chances of integrated social networking appearing in the OS are?

The iPhone 3GS has the OS capability to upload video straight to YouTube. I would like to see the ability to save pictures taken from the camera roll into pre-synced albums as well as the ability to create photo albums on the device itself. iPhoto-like uploads directly to Facebook would be nice.

I recently played with my friend's Palm Pré Plus and I liked the fact that you could add Facebook, Twitter, etc. feeds into your threaded conversations. That would be a nice feature for those of us that utilize those sites.

I would also like the Messages app to become more like iChat, with customization options and the ability to add Gmail/Yahoo/etc accounts.

Just a couple ideas. :)

I think that if anything. There should be Springboard customization much like in Winterboard on jailbroken devices. That would be greatness.

Personally I would love these things above all:

1) Over the Air OS upgrade, backup and syncing with a networked NAS/Time Capsule with iTunes built in the device.
The fact that you NEED a computer just to have iTunes running to sync and upgrade is the only thing I really hate about iPhone and even more about the iPad...even if I consider the iPhone the best tech I ever owned in my life.
For my needs I would eliminate many PCs around the house if it was true, realying only on iPhones and iPads.
This is specially true about the iPad.

2) HD enabled output from iPhone. I love bringing some movies on my iPhone and using it as a little mediacenter hooking up it to a 720p TV (actual component cable are locked at 576 and you cannot sync too many files in iTunes).
As part of this, even if I know it won't be ever coming, more format compatibility would rock (divx, mkv...I'm in the process to RE-convert many DVDs in h264 and it's really a pain).
Oh...and no more photo resizing please (for video output).

3) iBooks for iPhone.

4) An iPhoto app similar to the iPad one, not in the interface but in the features...like places and faces.
It would be cool if I could select photos, adding travel maps (as OSX iPhoto) and create a video presentation of my travels (with video output) or buy a book from Apple (like iPhoto).

5) While I'm not too impatient for multitasking which I do not feel the need if I have push notifications...the one thing I would really like is the ability to download a movie WHILE continuing browsing (I like to browse on multiple pages reading one as the others download...I cannot do this with a video because it opens the player locking out everything else).

6) A portion of the SSD to store files, where I can download those (no matter the extension) and UPLOAD them where I want.

7) A way to actually save the 'saved data' for each application, even if I remove it from the iPhone. Like a game progress of an app I have to remove for space contraints, and then re-sync in the iPhone to continue.

EDIT: 8) Forgot to add flash to the camera, possibly improved.

With this, iPhone would be really and definteviley 'my digital life always with me'.

My wish-list is actually simple and not so hard to do;

-Don't make it slower than it is. You don't have to make it faster but don't make it slower.
-Classy, fancy UI. When iPhone was first introduced back in Jan '07 i loved the UI. It felt all glossy, fancy etc... but now after using it for more than 2 years it feels old. Apple is with no doubt the most successful company making their products look cool, fancy desirable etc... You got the point.
-Being able to make folders

Besides the UI i want the phone to look futuristic again. It doesn't feel like it felt 3 years ago. I want the looks to completely change.

This thursday we will all know the features of the new iPhone OS 4.0. After the event I will update the whole post with what came true, what didn't came true and what we still want.
