We had a thread running from 2009 until 2011 (so, 3 years) with a wishlist. Apple seemed to listen, because a big part of these wishes have been added in both hardware and software revisions.

So, it's time for a new wishlist. What would you like to see in the next-gen iPhone and next version of iOS?

    Hardware (in random order)
    1) Bigger display, preferably beyond 4.5" (maintain at least 326 ppi)
    2) A8 chip
    3) Improved camera (better when 'shakey' [image stabilization?], low-light)
    4) 1080p (instead of 720p) Slo-Mo recording @ 120 fps? 4K video support?
    5) Improved battery life (more important than making the device thinner)
    6) 32 GB - 64 GB - 128 GB models
    7) New design, perhaps move away from the iPhone 4-like design?

    Software (in random order)
    1) Faster animations (it takes too long right now)
    2) More support for Touch ID (payments? login in 3rd party apps? etc.)
    3) If there's a bigger display: on the homescreen, not an extra row of apps but other features (perhaps a widget?)
    4) Night mode: based on time and/or ambient light, change colours in iOS (so during the day, you'll have the white transparant menus, during night you'll have black transparant menus). It'll also be better for your eyes.
    5) Quick Reply for Notifications

    - screen 4.8" - 5.5"
    - 1080p or 2x the current resolution
    - bigger battery or longer battery life. I'm talking two solid days of heavy use on one charge battery
    - thinner bezels
    - as for ios8, I just want it to be more stable than ios7. Under the hood improvements is fine.
    - one specific change I would like in ios 8 would be a better keyboard or the ability to change keyboard.

    1. I think a screen between 4.5 and 5 inches would be perfect
    2. A higher resolution to maintain "retina" status or higher
    3. 128GB storage option
    4. All available radio bands in one model
    5. HD voice capability (depending on carrier)
    6. Mobile payment system
    7. The usual upgraded chip and camera
    8. NO thinner please

    • 'Air'-inspired design
    • 4.8" 1080p screen with virtually no bezel (definitely possible)
    • Dual- or Quad-core 20nm A8 processor (likely)
    • 2gb+ of LPDDR3 (or even LPDDR4) RAM (necessary!)
    • 128gb storage option (a hopeful and somewhat likely option, I think)
    • 12+ hour battery life (probably unlikely, since :apple: is always so proud to just have "up to 10" while making it "the thinnest phone ever")
    • Improved camera optics/sensor (likely, even if 8Mpx remains)
    • 24+ FPS full-res Burst Mode (highly likely thanks to the recent acquisition of SnappyLabs)
    • Quick Reply in iOS 8 (seriously...its about time we finally get this feature in iOS)
    • Expand the new "Reduce White Point" feature (found in iOS 7.1b3) to be more like (or even BETTER than) the f.lux jailbreak tweak!
I would do my first camp out for this :D

These 2 options are pretty much mutually exclusive.

I agree. However he asked for a wish list. Also, iPhones have been getting smaller without jeopardizing battery life.

Bigger screen.. you can add/modify any feature but the #1 thing I (most of us) need is screen atleast 4.7". A smaller screen with the very best features is not going to cut for Apple this time. Go Bigger MUST be their #1 priority.

My own real wishes are they have a smaller version (4") but also introduce a larger version (4.7"), as long as they have identical specs and the larger one isn't better than the smaller one.

Well, for starters, the larger one will have a bigger battery, thus better battery life.

Bigger Screen. 4.8 - 5 would be great. Any smaller than 4.5 would be a let down.

Swype - it's unbelievable they don't give us this option. Let us choose.

    128gb or more storage

    Longer lasting battery

    More scratch resistant screen

Thinner bezel (but not a thinner device)

    A more stable OS

Bigger screen = more battery consumption.

while we are making a wish list:
    -longer battery life
    -slightly larger screen (given)
    - flux capable with out jailbreak (unlikely)
    - curved edges
    - virtual home capable like the tweak
    - comes with smart watch (a guy can only dream)

    iPhone 6

    1. A brand new design (not another iPhone 4 recycle) featuring a larger display, anywhere within the range of 4.5-5". Not larger, not smaller.
    2. 32GB base-storage.
    3. $649 price-point, just like today.

    iOS 8

    1. Software to utilize the larger screen size, not just an added row of icons.
    2. Mobile payments would be nice, using TouchID.
    3. New home screen features. iOS 7 brought several great additions, such as Control Center, and new notifications, et.c. The only thing which has not been given much improvement is the home screen. I'm not saying that Apple needs to add widgets or anything, but some news would be nice. This could be coupled to point 1.

All they had to do to make me not look at any Android phone was to put a larger display on the 5s.

i think the iPhone 6 will be mostly cosmetic changes:

bigger screen - 4.7 (no phablets though)
"new," curvier back ala moto x
    the standard bumps in performance

that's it. no innovation. that's for the S line. the touch id is honestly a decent addition. siri sucks, but at least they tried an interesting thing.

I heard a rumor for solar power addition. "S"olar power...

There's a lot of good stuff I want in iOS 8 in this thread.
What I want in the next iPhone is...
I'm not so sure about a bigger screen yet but if apple does it go with 4.7 inch
I want the bottom of the phone to look like the bottom of the 5/5s
I want it to continue being made out of aluminum
And mostly life proof. I want to be able to throw my phone on the ground as hard as I can and then go swimming but I might be dreaming.

Only works while it is ringing. And its a flashlight not a notification light.

    Bigger screen, battery etc

Though I'm against notification lights and the "air design", don't really want it to look like an ipod touch.
