I got an email as well it just said that they have nothing to tell for now..

Yep, here's that email:

Actually we here in Canada pay for internet, like I'm sure everyone does in every nation. Myself, I'm on Rogers wireless and pay $30 a month for 6gigs of data.

There are cheaper plans like for instance 1gig of data and even less than that.

Where are you from exactly?

I have the 6GB/$30 plan with Fido, but those data plans were limited time offers and you can't get anything comparable at this time.

You can pay $60 for 5GB however!!

just got an e-mail from rogers saying that theres still no news and to not call their CSRs :(
they need to hurry up and give us some info

Haha me too! What a buzz kill...when I seen the subject line in my email I almost jumped out of my chair.

I'm so sure they send an email just to say...we still don't know, please stop calling us and asking.

Haha!

Are u serious??? Rogers/Fido now charge $60 for 5 gigs??

If that's right that's the biggest rip off ever. So glad I have the $30/6gig package now.

How much of that 6 gigs do you use a month?

I know the above wasn't directed at me, but since I was making a spreadsheet just yesterday to see where I could save some money on my plan (and comparing other companies' rates), I have to say that I've never come close, however now that tethering is including, I bet I will be using a lot more so I'm very glad I have that plan.

And for Jamesdamon:

Yep, $60 for 5GB. Now $30 only gets you 1GB.

Tethering has been included on Rogers/Fido data plans over 1gb since the OS supported it... So about a year now? or more? And I use 5gb of it a month

I laughed at the e-mail today because I read it as: "We have nothing to tell you, stop bugging us"

Let's hope they have something to tell us this coming week or the following :D

I think that's exactly what they were saying in their email. LOL. They're probably getting sick of people calling to ask about the iPhone.

Yeah, I got the email too. I got all excited seeing "iPhone 4 Update" in the subject line, I click it and it was basically a big **** everyone. :D

The next email will have some info hopefully. Or we will hear about it on various tech sites. Probably the latter first, but if we get the emails first I'll be damned.:D

Hey Draz! Hope ur well.

I think u might be wrong on that one. I remember reading on the Rogers Red Board that just recently Rogers included tethering on data plans over 1gig.

I think it went into effect late April or early May.

The title of the red board post was something along the lines of..."You spoke and we listened"

Check it out, sorry for the lack of link. I'll try to add it later when I'm at home.

I don't have tethering anymore, but I distinctly remember tethering last summer after the feature was announced in the OS.

If you dig around, I'm sure you could find posts here on MR from that time.

I've read a lot of people with 3GS phones are experiencing the same reception issues as the iPhone 4.

I'm beginning to think it may either be a network issue with AT&T or a software issue with 4.0

Have any of u had similar experiences here in Canada? My reception seems to be fine.

The more I think of it the more I think it's AT&T.
I wonder if people in other launch countries are having the same problem?

What's everyones opinion??

I'm Canadian myself but been actually living in Hong Kong due to my parent's business and am going to U of T in the coming September.

Found the link for ya:

So yes they have been offering tethering since summer of last year. It was something that wasn't marketed but it was for 1gb and greater plans. And they kept on extending it (at least 2 or 3 times).

But the announcement back in March made it official that it will be included all the time now. Which is great =)

It should be included in your plan if it is 1gb or greater.

The key words in Rogers red board post was
"we'll continue to offer" so Draz you're were absolutely right...my bad. :)

To all our Toronto friends out there in macrumors land...how's the anarchy treating you?? lol

Just one more day of it...and then it'll be business as usual.

I'd like to ask all the wonderful Canadians (and in particular, Torontonians) a quick question...

I am moving from the UK to Toronto for a few months starting next week and just got a sim-free/unlocked iPhone 4, which I will be bringing with me..... can anyone suggest the best provider to use on a 'pay as you go' basis? I don't think that I will be eligible for a contract due to my short stay/non-resident status, so it has to be pre-pay. I have been in Canada before so I have a little knowledge already regarding gsm etc. and I also remember how difficult and expensive the Canadian networks can be!

And yes, I realise that micro sims will be thin on the ground in Canada right now, but I have perfected my sim-cutting techniques, so using a regular sim will be fine ;)

Thanks in advance for any advice and personal experiences that you can share with me....

I'm a rookie to the smartphone market, and definitely interested in the iPhone 4. From what I hear, almost everyone is going with Rogers, but I'm looking for a plan with unlimited text, and it doesn't look like it will come from them. Telus and Virgin look like the cheapest plans with unlimited text for $50/month. Should I be choosing another carrier other than these two?

I have had my 3gs with Telus since November, and I have had no complaints. Not a single dropped call.

The $50 Telus plan only comes with 500mb of data, which is enough for me but ymmv
