doesn't really make sense if you are in Canada. Just go to Rogers and buy it on a plan for cheap.
 
So does anyone know if Fido will let me upgrade my expiring 2 year plan to a iPhone 4 somehow? :eek:

I started a thread at hofo about this. Long story short - my buddy on Friday bought 2 $659 "unlocked" iPhones. Went to go return/repurchase one as an upgrade instead, and found out both phones are not unlocked! It was a very knowledgeable rep and very helpful. It looks like what has to happen is when they scan the phone & the sim card the payment for the phone has to go through first & the sim then has to show "No Contract Sim". The apple employee who sold him the phones on friday was selling a lot of "unlocked" iPhones to people in front of us in the line as well. I wonder if he had screwed up a lot of them or what..
 
So I was just wondering, is it possible to use a unlocked iphone with fido and/or rogers without the data plan? The reason I am asking this is because I heard that AT&T can track the fact that you are using a iphone, and will automatically make you buy a data plan.

Yup, you can use an unlocked iPhone or even a locked subsidized iPhone without a data plan. The data plan is solely a requirement to get the subsidized hardware pricing.
 
Seems like all the Apple stores have stock..

Any idea if i authorize my mom on my account (ROGERS) if she can do a HUP upgrade for me? She will be in Toronto next week and could perhaps stop by an apple store and get one for me..

It's been mentioned several times already, but yes, any auth level 1 users can do a hardware upgrade.
 
Whats it like at the Eaton Center? Big line ups for Rogers HUPS? My parents will be there next week so im thinking of asking them to do my HUP for me while their there.

I wasnt gonna ask them if the line ups were like huge and they had to wait there for 2-3hours..
 
Picked up a factory unlocked 16GB from west edmonton mall apple store last night... total time 10 minutes....

Walked passed the 60 people in line right to the back of the store. Told them what I wanted and was helped immediately.

LOVE IT!!! I can reproduce the "antennagate" thing but it doesn't affect calls. I was talking on the phone for 45 minutes... killing the signal down to a little bar and no call quality was sacrificed..

same i can reproduce it at home but it doesnt affect my day to day activites so i have no problem with it
 
I'm definitely getting antenna problems. It's basically unusable unless I stick it in my old 3GS case, given my free one will take another month to come. I'm going to see a genius today for a replacement.

i just wondering whether my iphone4 is defective or not

iphone 4 32black and my carrier is Fido i live in Toronto

and thanks for reading my post

first of all i have the death grip problem but in good area im fine i just lose 1 or 2 bar not more than that and even sometimes not more than one bar
but yesterday i was in another area with not good reception and i totaly lost my whole signal and all this happen if i hold my hand some how that i cover the spot


here is my second problem when transferred my my music and podcast into my iphone4 after couple of hours i went to check them out but it was like i did not add any thing and after i connected to my itunes they appeared on itunes and my phone so far is OK but I'm just concern for later if this become an issue


and third one is my voice mail i do not know if it is from my carrier or my phone but that's how is happening it keep asking me to setup my voice mail again and again

I picked up a Griffin Motif from a Rogers franchisee just after I picked up my iPhone 4 and am very happy with it. Looks much better than in the pictures.

I also received an email from iSkin today that they are shipping iPhone 4 cases now. I bought the quartz solo (clear one) at half price from their site (the 50% off coupon is offered to you on the site). I will then be able to compare the two cases.

Those of you who did HUP with Rogers, I'd they disclose the $35 HUP admin fee to you prior to your agreeing to a new contract or purchase?

They didn't and their record lied that the fee was communicated to me. It's not even on my written contract and they expected me to pay it.
 
Hey got a question. The iPhone 4 is my first phone with a data plan. It's currently on push for email. Does that mean that emails will pretty much be instantly sent to the phone even while sleeping?

I tested this and sent an email to myself and left the phone on standby. It took 13 min before the mail sound alert sounded.

Is this normal? Are my settings messed up? I am using the mail app connected to my Yahoo account. Data via ROgers 3G.

It's not instantaneous. It will fetch new data every 15 minutes if that's how it's set. Look in Settings>Mail>Fetch New Data to see how your Fetch is set.

But yes, it's working normally. And make sure that you have IMAP set up in your Yahoo account (I'm not sure if Yahoo uses POP or IMAP as default).

Only BlackBerry has true Push email that goes instantaneously the moment you send it. Thats why so many business use BB.

The iPhone is still great for texting and all the multi-media consumption features so hopefully the push email isn't too big a deal for you.
