Any chance those phones would be unlocked, given that it's bought from the Apple Store, even though there is a contract.
The way I see it, the providers have you locked in with the ETF, so no need to lock the phone.
Firstly, I not even sure if in Canada Apple sells iPhones for all the phone companies, I'd be surprised if they did.
Secondly, if they do sell them or did in the future, I don't think they would have them unlocked, the phone companies would make sure of that.
The only way I know of getting a factory unlocked iPhone in Canada would be to purchase it at retail price from Apple. Currently only the 3GS 8gig is available.
Hey Draz...do you think Apple will start selling their unlocked iPhone 4's on launch day?? Or wait a couple of days/weeks for the phone companies to sell their stock??
In Canada, the iPhone's available on:
- Bell
- Telus
- Rogers
- Fido
- Virgin
and this is why I laugh at the Americanscause we have five options and they're stuck wih GAYT&T.
come on iphone hurry up and get to Canada already.

LOL sorry i have to say this. I'm Canadian as well, well atleast lived in Canada for a while, born somewhere else though. The point is, they are laughing at us because Apple treated us a third world country, letting japan get it before us. So we can't make fun of them, atleast they have it on lunch day, and we are still waiting like dogs.
Virgin is with Bell.
Fido is with Rogers.
So really, only just three...

Is there really any difference between the factory unlock from Apple and the inevitable iOS4 software unlock through pwnage or whatever tool?
while that may be true the prices will still vary at leastVirgin is with Bell.
Fido is with Rogers.

Well I'm not sure if Rogers has microsims in stock yet....but you could always easily just cut the sim into a micro and from what I've heard it will work fine.
It's super easy to cut, I tried it myself and it worked perfectly, I used a sharp exacto blade and the thing practically cut itself.
You're going have to wait until the iPhone 4 can be jailbroken.Hello,
I recently bought an iphone 4 from the States, unfortunately it is locked, I used the cut my sim technique from my old iphone's sim card and it fits into the micro sim tray perfect. My problem is is that it doesnt recognize the sim because it is probably locked. Would someone help me find a solution for this? Im stuck with an 800$ locked iphone 4. Plleeease. Im a newbie.
Thanks

But isnt there a difference between jailbreaking a iphone and just unlocking the iphone?
Hey guys, I might have asked this in this thread already, but oh well.
When I sell my iPhone, in order to wipe it, do I just go to "Erase all content and settings" and also remove my SIM Card? Anything else I need to do before selling?
Whoever buys it, do they just put their own SIM Card in it, and then they're all set and it will work for them on the Rogers network as if it was theirs originally?
Never sold an iPhone before so I wanted to know these things. I have a buyer coming by tomorrow so I need to know quickly. Thanks.
Your SIM card is yours, keep it as it contains info on your account and if you give it to someone else then I hope you enjoy paying their bill.Hey guys, I might have asked this in this thread already, but oh well.

Yes you can choose that erase all content option. But you can also connect the phone up to iTunes and set it up as a new phone. This will totally make sure that the phone is setup with zero information on it.
Once someone else puts in their SIM card then the phone will work as if it was theirs.
