The CANADIAN iPhone thread.....

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (iPhone; Opera Mini/5.0.019802/19.826; U; en) Presto/2.5.25)

2 weeks is just a speculation on the amount of time needed.
And yes there are 17 other countries who are having this same conversation as they too just have to wait for some announcement.... So we arent alone!

Re #3: If it's anything like the way they're selling the unlocked 8GB 3GS - they won't ask for ID. I just picked up an unlocked 3GS from the Apple store and they basically got it out for me, processed the payment, and I was outta there.

How much was it? I'll be doing the same with iPhone 4, if possible.

Personally even with the antenna problems I'll still buy the iPhone 4. I was going to buy a case for it anyway so I shouldn't have this problem.

With comments like these, I don't think it would be in Rogers' best interests to launch the phone until Apple has said something definitive on the signal issues. If the linked article has any merit, could you imagine rolling out a product as highly anticipated as the i4 across Canada (and the rest of the world) only to have to recall it days/weeks later? Once we hear from Apple on what's going on, I'd imagine the carriers will follow suit with their announcements. I don't think Jobs lied when he said the Canadian launch wouldn't be delayed, I just don't think he saw this snowballing into the massive clusterf*ck it appears to be.

FWIW, I sold my 3G days before the i4 announcement and I'm stuck on an 8100 Pearl (edge only, no data) - I want to upgrade just as badly as the next guy, but I'm going to have to see how this pans out before jumping out on launch day.

Agreed ... it wouldn't make sense to release them and then turn around and do a recall! Plus .... who wants to purchase a defective phone anyway!! <ducks>

Even though all this bad press about reception on the iPhone 4 is making me a bit nervous about buying one, my wallet will be open once they release those phones here in Canada (unlocked/no contract of course!). :D

Ahhh ... screw it ... I'm going to buy a 16GB 3GS!! I'll keep an eye out for a good deal. It will be good to go back to an iPhone when I sell my Sony X10. I'll pick up a 3GS after I sell the X10 and I'll upgrade next year when the iP5 comes out.

:D:D

Just saw this post from a mod on iphoneincanada.ca:
In Canada, we tested the iPhone 4 on Rogers, Bell, and Telus and experienced no signal degradation.

We covered the bottom left spot and other areas, and no bars dropped or call quality. However Telus did drop one bar, but call quality was not affected.
........
It's great that Consumer Reports doesn't recommend the iPhone 4, but my experiences say otherwise.

What matters to me is that we had first-hand experience and could not reproduce the signal drop on AT&T while in Canada. When we went to the USA however, the iPhone 4 we held INSTANTLY dropped its signal.

Yes I just read that article like 5 minutes ago. It seems that Rogers is much more stable than AT&T, at least from reports and my own personal experience in March when I brought my 3GS to the states and was unimpressed with the speeds.

I can't wait to get an iPhone 4. The antenna is supposed to make reception superior compared to the 3G/3GS, so I can't wait to see what the reception is like. Especially at my cottage, well, I get No Service at the cottage itself, but maybe I might get one bar this time.

Where's your cottage? I'm on Lake Joseph as we speak, and I get full bars on my 3G. Of course, this is the "posh" lake. ;)

I'm in the exact same situation. Just on the verge of 1 bar at the cottage. Hope iPhone 4 can fix this. Might have to go bell as they have better rural coverage. Another year on the contract though. :(

The carriers feel that you are suppose to relax and be disconnected from the 'real world' when you are at your cottage! :p

My cottage is in Parry Sound. I get amazing reception in the city itself and on the highways leading in and out of the city and surrounding areas. I was expecting the coverage up there to be spotty at best.

Sometimes, if you stand outside on the back deck of my cottage you can just barely get a signal. Mostly it is GPRS, several times I got EDGE, and one or two times I got a 3G signal (like 1 bar only) which shocked me.

So that's why I'm intrigued as to whether or not it may slightly improve reception at my cottage. I'm not expecting it too but if it does that's great.

If you have probs just apply some duct tape... Red Green had it right a decade ago, duct tape fixes everything! Including the antenna problem on the iPhone 4
And surely we have some folks here who remember The Red Green Show >_>

Here's my guess:

Rogers/Telus/Bell will get limited stock iPhone 4's so Apple can test out if the next batch will as well get the "issues", watching how customers complain. If no issue's come, they will continue to press the "non issue" statement. If issues occur, then a recall will be done
