Just got an email from bell. Hot off the press.

Bell introduces new data features offering smartphone users 6GB of data and unlimited WiFi service at Starbucks locations for only $30 a month.
In addition, you can share your data usage with your iPad by adding a new iPad share rate plan for only an additional $10 a month.

Only avail until sept 30th

Any other info you can share? Did they link to a site at all for this PR?

I can't find anything about it anywhere else.

Can anyone second/confirm this email? If so, this would be great negotiating leverage for customers not with Bell.

If this is true, I think I will pay the ECF (Early Cancellation Fee) for Rogers and jump ship to Bell! The money saved by not having an extra iPad data plan (and the cheaper voice plan from Bell) will easily pay for the Early Cancellation Fee, and then some, over a year. Plus, Bell's network is faster.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (iPhone; Opera Mini/5.0.019802/19.872; U; en) Presto/2.5.25)

You mean nobody else registered to get the Bell e-mail for the iPhone 4....

Cause neither did I :p

Probably Rogers will match this. Can't see why they wouldn't.

$30 = 6GB!!! how about tether??

I hope this is true but can't see why not. Looking forward to it.

I've still got the 6GB for $30 promo with Rogers from a while back when they ran it (iPhone 3G launch), and it includes tethering. I'm sure the other carriers would include tethering with their promos.

To me, the big deal here is the $10 iPad sharing.

Wow did you just say $10 for ipad sharing. I asked they said they cant do sharing with this plan at all. how did you do it.

thanks

Is telus lame when it comes to switching from the cdma to hspa network and keeping somewhat of the same plan as before?

I wanna know what I can get out of them before I call.

I phoned Fido the other day and they told me I'm eligible to upgrade to an iPhone 4 on August 20th... obviously I was hoping to be able to get one on launch day or soon afterwards. Does anyone know if it's possible to get Fido to negotiate that date by pushing it forward 3 weeks? Or is that generally a fixed date that can't be changed with a little push or two?

Today I called 1800-Apple, and the rep questioned me, "how do you know the iPhone 4 will be launched in 4 days in Canada?" ......... I blew it, I got so angry at the rep, and thankfully my phone died on me.

I am so furious with Apple customer support. They know NOTHING of the iPhone 4 in Canada. Okay, I know they aren't the brains of Apple, and don't know everything, but STILL. They are our only source of connection to Apple. If THEY, the company itself doesn't know, who the hell is suppose to know? You know what I mean? So furious.

Anyways, I have a question :p
I'm not fully understanding the hype of the unlocked iPhone 4 in Canada. Why don't we just purchase the phone itself from our original carriers, and unlock it ourselves? I mean, how hard is it these days? Why spend more with Apple? I hear these Americans wanting to come to Canada just to purchase an unlocked iPhone 4.Are the carriers in Canada only selling the iPhone4 WITH contracts or something?

Two reps I spoke to (one Wirelesswave, one Fido) said they'd refuse to sell to me, because they don't get commission on Outright sold phones, especially when that phone would sell no problem. I was pissed.

On a lighter note, called Fido today to cancel my agreement, explained my situation - I broke my 3GS last week, went swimming with it by accident. I said I was cancelling so I could upgrade to iPhone 4, and that I wasn't sure what carrier I wanted to go with. In the end they offered me an awesome retention plan, plus gave me $200 off the cancellation fee!

I was expecting to have to pay the 400+tax, the $299+tax for the new phone, now it's cheap! :)

Omg? So they won't sell the iPhone 4 without contract? They do with other phones, and the current iPhones.

I don't think it's allowed, but it sounds like, at least at Fido, they'll do it anyways. :(

No, I don't think so. I have many friends who are with Fido, and have purchased the 3G & 3GS without contracts from Fido. At the Fido retail store, they also have no-contract phone prices listed. I just got off with the Fido customer representative, who have said Fido sales rep in retail stores are on commission, however, they do not have the power to deny purchases for phones without contracts.

Make sure you check the websites too.
The websites clearly states that you are eligible to purchase fido phones for the phone purchase only.

I am not understanding this hype about unlocked iPhone 4 from Apple Canada. If carriers are selling iPhone 4's without contract (WHICH, THEY WILL!) why don't we just purchase from the carriers, if anything the same price as Apple, or at a discounted price (with deals such a rewarded points ..i.e: fido dollars) and just jailbreak & unlock yourself?

I understand jailbreaking & unlocking will void your warranty, but only until you restore your iPhone. So, what's the big fuss about unlocked iPhones from Apple Canada?
Not ringing a bell.

I am with Fido, and while my anniversary date is August 16th, I have been eligible to upgrade since June 22nd or so. I would imagine that you're in the same boat and that your anniversary date is Sep-Oct? I don't think Fido negotiates, based on what I saw today.

However, I could still try the girly cry-and-show-cleavage tactic in store on Friday... ;)

Because when Apple updates the firmware, you lose the jailbreak/unlock and have to wait for a new release. Apple's unlocked phones will be permanently unlocked, a big plus.

I do hope that you are not a guy, because if so, that tactic might fail miserably!!!

BTW, does anyone know if Best Buy or other (non-carrier) retail stores will be carrying the unlocked iPhone? Victoria does not have an Apple store, so I need to know whether it's worthwhile to head to Best Buy of Future Shop on Friday.

I didn't think of that. I guess it's a good feature for those who travel a lot then. I hardly travel, so I guess it wouldn't make a difference for me.

Bell iPhone 4 prices

Bell iPhone prices released... $40 cheaper than iPhone 3GS!!! But they won't wave $35 activation fee on iPhone 4's, try calling customer service later.

16Gb - $169
32Gb - $269

on 3 yr. term. 2yr is unavailable.

So which one would you get? I find 16Gb is reasonable as my 2G and 3GS iPhones are 16Gb.

So far it is just Apple Store, I am not sure if Best Buy & Future Shop will sell it unlocked but given that they sell phones for all carriers then it shouldn't be a problem for them to sell it unlocked... in the future just not this Friday

Carriers sell it cheap and locked with contracts. Apple sells it unlocked full price with no contract.
