The CANADIAN iPhone thread.....

Hey all,

Im excited for this Friday but I may not be able to get a phone after all. Currently I have a plan in which i pay 70 dollars for:

200min
6pm evenings
Unlimited weekends, evenings
My 10 longdistance
VM/CID and unlimited text (NOT mms)- not visual voicemail
500MB of data

I know i can do better than this. I want to give rogers retentions a call. However, my mom INSISTS that I wait because rogers will be realeasing better student deals in the comming weeks.

Ideally I want to get all of the above for 50 bucks max and with 1 GB of data instead. Is this possible? Need be I can create a new rogers account because this current one is under my parents. I am 19 so I will be able to create by own account. If I go this route, will I be able to get all of the above for around 50 dollars.

I just really want to get this sorted out in the next few days before the launch so I can get a phone.

student plans are already out and on rogers website.

I spoke to a friend who's very high up the store management chain @ the Market Mall location. He said they expect less than 10 iphone4's! He said that Roger's Plus Stores in Calgary will have the bulk of the units.

I will be hitting the Roger's Plus in the NW for sure.

I heard that and I'm from Montreal. A friend of mine works at Rogers and that's the info they got: they'll receive 10 units approx.... if they receive it at all.

Which one will you be going to? Do you know the one by the Superstore near the community Hamptons and Edgemont?

I think there is also one in Dalhousie, but I live in a 5 min walking distance from the Superstore one.

Only sad thing is my dad wont be in town till Sunday, do you think I will be out of luck :(

Just talked to my buddy who owns about 7 rogers stores. He swore to me up and down he has no idea about anything. I hope ups magically shows up at his door with a ton of phones thursday nite/Friday morning at 5am!
 
Apple store Pacific Centre (Vancouver) just told me "we're not sure if we will have the physical devices available yet".

Is that just what they're saying or could this possibly be for real? :S
 
The apple stores do not have the physical inventory yet, that is why there is so much confusion..

What a terrible way to have a launch. I would have rather it been delayed and arrived with sufficient units and knowledgeable staff then this runaround.

For product launches the Apple stores usually get the product the afternoon before. So no need to worry.
The problem is that Apple refuses to update its site with any new information or announce anything. Although I'm sure we will hear something Thursday.

I would avoid going to downtown pacific centre.. just go to the oakridge apple store.. less traffic
 
I'm personally hoping tomorrow's Australia launch sheds some light on what us Canucks can expect in terms of unlocked phones and ease of purchase.

I really need to stop going to this site, each minute fills me with more and more anxiety about this gadget.

I'll be staying downtown so the PC store is only a 15min walk for me. I don't want to drive all the way out to Oakridge :S Plus I'll beat all the people coming from the 'burbs waiting for the skytrain to start running :D

I might consider doing this if Rogers will be offering the 6GB for $30 data plan. Don't want to lose that by cancelling with Fido.

it was the only sort of good news I heard all day.. had to drive out to Oakridge Apple Store (40 mins) when I was told I would get a replacement iPhone for sure. Sure enough, I get there, the genius tells me that they're going to replace the display and then they tell me my 3GS logic board is toast and that they don't have my iPhone in stock.

Not only that, she ripped off my screen protector and now I have none!!!! gah!

Stupid.
 
What kind of monthly bill will I be looking at for an iPhone? I just want a basic plan with some data (under a GB is fine). I want call display but no need for unlimited text.

I've posted a question similar to this 3 times in this thread but was ignore each time. I've done research but I can only find details from 2 years ago. =\

I know you people have iPhones so please answer.

Under 60 bucks taxes included for all carriers.

usually falls under the $50 dollar plans 500mb, some carriers have a choice of unlimited texting. You can probably negotiate free caller id and that will put you under $60 for sure.

Seriously? Go to any of the carriers webpage and look at the plans?
 
Just spoke to 2 dealers and they've said that they are only allowed to order 15 phones for the initial launch. 10 16 gigs and 5 32 gigs. The week after they are allowed to order as many as they want. This info was from telus dealers.

Do you have an existing contract? Is it about to expire? Call and say you're unhappy with the service and are thinking of switching to a different carrier (I mentioned Wind). This only works if you have under 6mo left if your contract-Fido and Rogers have better deals than Bell/Telus. Got this from Fido:

fido to fido/fido to rogers unlim
Vmail, CD, 2500 texts
$25

Flex data: $10/100mb, $15/150mb, $20/500mb (charge based on usage)
I'll be going back to school in September and the whole campus has wifi, so for now I don't need a lot of data just something cheap.

If you're not eligible for retentions....just do some research. Whatever is on the company websites are what they can offer you.
 
JUST SPOKE TO MARKET MALL, CALGARY APPLE STORE

they said:

1) Mall doors at 6:00, store opens at 7:00

2) Unlocked phones available

3) They'll be taking count of people once doors open to figure out their intended model and assign them service numbers

4) They said 'ample supply' enough to get through 1st day at least.

5) Someone bring me coffee (black, no sugar) when I'm in line and I'll buy you a unicorn.
