As we all know the screen for iPhone X is from Samsung. And the Samsung "AMOLED burn-in" problem is very famous and everyone in the android side knows it. Just google "AMOLED burn-in" if you don't know about it. Basically after around a year, there will be some permanent burn-in marks on the screen and there is no way to solve it.

I have no idea why people feel excited about this coming new screen, I personally would not get one.

It will only make sense if you will buy a new phone after a year anyway. I don't buy new phone every single year especially for a phone that is $1000 (it is $13xx-$14xx in a lot of countries) without counting the apple care, fast charge cable, wireless dock, case, screen protector............
Been using a samsung phone with Amoled screen for 3 years now and havent had this issue. Seen the burn in on display models I'm a moderate to heavy phone user

You started a thread on this "issue "and telling somebody to "Google it" is rather dismissive. You could provide facts confirming Your own claims instead of pushing the issue that burn in is such a major issue across the board, when in reality, it's not, as plenty of others have already indicated.

Go to any samsung phone forum and make a thread saying "samsung screen doesnt have burn-in problem now, dont claim your samsung phone screen has any burn-in problem", see what will happen.

This is moot now anyway. There's a software fix already.

Good joke

I went to Android Central and looked through pages and pages of posts and this is all I've come across so far: https://forums.androidcentral.com/s...an-you-trade-galaxy-s8-plus-burnt-screen.html

So it can happen, but it's not something the majority of owners seem concerned about. So why should we be freaking out about it here?

I've got a Samsung phone about a foot away from me. There is no burn in.

Further, the key element needed for AMOLED burn-in is a persistent image. There are very few persistent UI elements in the current build of Samsung software. Samsung even shifts the elements ever so slightly, but imperceptible to the human eye, to prevent burn-in.

Notice even Apple moves around status bar elements when the notification shade is pulled down on the iPhone X to avoid persistent UI elements.

It’s rumored Apple’s OLED patents are being integrated and it’s not a straight parts bin purchase from Samsung. Samsung might just be a fabrication company.

Apple's intellectual property on OLED began in 2009 and the U.S. Patent Office granted Apple their first patent regarding OLED back in 2013. The same year Apple hired a high powered leader in AMOLED from LG Display, Dr. Lee Jeung-jil.

Apple's been working on OLED awhile. I’m kind of expecting some weird Apple take on OLED because that’s just their style.

So that means it will be different from most every other OLED screen out there? I highly doubt this.

Otherwise I'm looking forward to it though. It should be just like the apple watch screen. I don't hear many complaints about that, but it's also a tiny screen, and people hardly use it for videos, games, or anything other than quick glances.

I have a note 8 as my Dailey driver and the display does have some slight "grain" it's hard to explain it's organic looking... this is because of the pentile matrix.
Am I going to see the same thing with the Note 8? If I remember correctly, the screen is supposed to be the same configuration but slightly bigger? I'm getting one Tuesday!

Nope. Can't even remotely agree, based upon my Galaxy S8+.

There is nothing remotely grainy about Samsung's current QHD+ AMOLED displays. The level of detail and sharpness is insane for a phone.

Today's AMOLED displays have nothing in common with the pentile displays from 2011 when they looked like this.

Different? There may be some aspect to it that is patented by Apple and not available to other manufactures.

You act like there is no precedent for Apple putting a twist on something conventional. That's pretty much their standard operating procedure.

Agreed as I don't see any of that grain like in that picture.

I just can't see Apple joining forces with Samsung, they should be using LG! I really really hope the rumor mill is true on this one. It makes sense why they wouldn't call this AMOLED in that case. Though I find it really unfortunate Apple couldn't join forces with LG. Maybe LG refused some partnership out of spite because Apple stole LG's 'high powered leader' of OLED.

LG is the OLED leader of TVs, I don't see that one doctor making much of a difference.

When have to make as many units as Apple needs, not many companies have the fabrication capacity right now, and it takes billions in capex and years to get a company up to speed.

Took Apple years and lots of work to get TSMC able to make their SOC’s and move away from Samsung.

Well must be my screen protector. I have the Whitestone dome glass so I guess it gives it a very slight grain. Understandable

Ah, yes that makes sense. That's why I end up removing all of the screen protectors I've tried on my Samsungs. Yes that does give a bit of "grain" or as I used to see them, little sparkles. I can see the little bit of grain to the iPhone 7/6s/6 display but that's the limit to my ability to detect graininess on displays that escape most people. I was perplexed anyone could see grain on a current or 2016 OLED Samsung display short of being in VR, but I assumed it was just something my eyes couldn't pick up anymore. I am nearsighted but if I take my progressive lens glasses off I still have freakishly good close up vision like my dad did. It is starting to fade with age, though. A little bit.

Funny you should mention that. I ripped off my screen protector like 3 weeks ago because it really downgraded how amazing the S8+ display is.

Makes a massive difference.

I've tried 4 different types of screen shields on my S8+ and they all sucked and took away from its brilliance.

I think for general use, the iPhone's don't need a screen protector (a case may be good for the sides and back. Unless you plan to put sapphires or diamonds in your pocket that may cut into the display, but the Gorilla glass is fairly solid.

Screen would be full of scratches without some kind of screen protector

Umm what?! There is no grainy, it's the best display ever made per displaymate.

To my eyes and the eyes of others Amoled displays have a grainy look, particularly when showing a white background. For me even the display on the Apple watch has a grainy aspect. I suppose either you see this or you don't, but it bothers me and I shudder when looking at phones like the Pixel.

As an example: "The negative of pentile screens is that they can appear grainy, or appear to be lower resolution due to the larger, more visible sub pixels" from https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/amoled-vs-lcd-which-screen-is-best-for-your-phone/

And then there is the whole issue with Pulse Width Modulation flickering to control brightness on Amoled. I know Apple has to go with this screen technology to make the X, but there are many who don't like the way it looks, despite the consumer buzz around phones that use Amoled technology.

So I hope the Apple display is better or somehow more advanced than those we see on Pixel or Note 8.

Do you have any notion of how much AMOLED evolves every single year and is now the leading display tech in smartphones without any worthy challengers?

Better yet, try and real TECH website:

http://www.displaymate.com/Galaxy_Note8_ShootOut_100.htm

The Best Smartphone Display

The Galaxy Note8 is the latest in a new generation of OLED Smartphones that have a Full Screen Display design like the Galaxy S8. It has many major and important state-of-the-art display performance enhancements, features and functions, with mobile OLED display technology now advancing faster than ever. The Galaxy Note8 is the most innovative and high performance Smartphone display that we have ever lab tested. So the Galaxy Note8 becomes the Best Performing Smartphone Display, earning DisplayMate’s highest ever A+ grade.

The AMOLED screen should never have happened on an iPhone. Period. It makes everything look too colorful and unrealistic and now it's gonna delay production. If they went with the same screen as on current iPhones then we would all have iphone x by now

Another uneducated person making statements on something they clearly have zero idea about. AMOLED displays are very accurate, Samsung phones can be set to photo or basic mode which give extremely accurate results, they just come out of the factory set on the more punchy looking setting.

Then why is it still grainy?

The article I site is relevant as it is explains the grain aspect I see on even the newer Amoled phones. While the Note 8 has great measured color and brightness it still has an unnatural look especially on a solid white background.
