Is LG perhaps similar to Samsung in that there is an “LG Display” and an “LG”, but they are two independent companies that have a joint holding company, but are basically just a service provider and customer when it comes to providing a new monitor model?
LG Display and LG Electronics are different entities, with separate stock market listings. It began as a joint venture with Philips in 1999, but Philips sold most of its stake in 2008. LG Electronics is the majority stakeholder now.

In checking my facts, I encountered this old (2024) news:

LG Display to pull out of LCD business; BOE, CSOT eye Guangzhou plant

This may explain a few things — apparently it was sold (deal expected to be complete by March 2025) to CSOT. I didn’t see any details about trademarks like “IPS Black” and “Nano IPS Black” — but they may have been part of the deal. Kuycon is based in the heart of Guangzhou, so their emergence in the wake of this deal makes sense.

I suppose, maybe, if LG Display makes the Apple Pro Display XDR panel at a different plant, then the UltraFine 6K panel might be from there, and not from the Guangzhou plant.

September seems highly unlikely, this rumor is only based on LG Greece article which was about 2 monitors not just the 32U990A. The other monitor is listed on others LG website so I guess that makes sense this one is gonna come out in September and they made a mistake saying both will be.

I wouldn't expect the 32U990A this year, otherwise LG wouldn't sit watching Asus do all this. If the LG was close to production they'd at least release full specs and say "available late 2025" or something so people don't pre-order the Asus and wait
I removed the question mark from the September news when I thought it was confirmed by another source. But in looking for that now I think I might have gotten it mixed up with something else. I will restore the question mark…

@marko232 "what the conversion kit?"

The Surface Studio 1 uses a LTM282RL01 panel, and this YT video describe the attempt to convert it - successful at first, but then user error made it problematic...

The conversion board is the R1811, which is normally sold with firmware for iMac 5K screen panels, but this AliExpress vendor (who supplied the panel in the video) may be able to supply one with the firmware for the LTM282RL01 panel.

Beware the price in the US seems to be very tariff heavy - more reasonable in the rest of the world...:

The LG monitor has won 2 design awards already (as far as I know), but nobody has been able to upload a video or made a report about seeing it in person etc. It’s very strange imo.

The photos provided by LG look more like renders than actual photos, the bezel is ridiculously thin.

I mean I hope it comes out but September is looking each passing day very unlikely.

Yeah, the fact we've got no real updates during the time that the Asus 6k is about to drop tells me it's unlikely to be ready in 2025. Definitely a bummer, but I'm also skeptical it will be < $2,000. I'm grabbing the Asus as soon as it's available on B&H and will try not to cry every time I look at the bottom bezel 😂

Also @displayator Asus bumped the price by another $100 on their product page. Shows $1399 now: https://www.asus.com/us/displays-desktops/monitors/proart/proart-display-6k-pa32qcv/

Yeah I wonder what's the deal between LG and Apple, because LG have had a 6k panel for a long time now (almost 6 years since XDR was released) and no doubt they could have make their own 6k monitor sooner.
Also, I believe LG stopped selling their UltraFine 5k monitor when the Studio Display came out.

So maybe they had some kind of exclusivity deal that expired, LG announced the 32U990A and that gave them some leverage to negotiate with Apple for a better deal/XDR 2 deal
I've wondered the same thing about LG Display and Apple, especially when LG Display produced Dell's 6K panel in 2023 at a slightly different size. The expensive part of the XDR is the backlight, which is an Apple design -- presumably LG Display is making that as well, and shipping the panel together with the backlight.

The total silence from LG about the 6K after the CES awards submission is very Apple-like. There hasn't even been a press release. The only reason we know about it is because it has won three design awards. It feels like there might be a reason for that, like there is some kind of embargo in place. That's why September/October seemed plausible to me -- Apple might have originally planned to launch a Studio Display 6K around then, using the same panel as the UltraFine 6K.

Because the Asus is only available in matt, it wouldn't be worth more than €1000 to me. I'm also pretty sure that this matte version of the display will quickly drop in price because the monitor will remain nothing special.
