NewsCorp doesn't do news, it's mostly news as seen through the lens of Rupert Murdoch. This is good news for the iPad but not a great leap in news delivery.

Without all of the fanfare NPR has done basically the same thing and it's free. NPR is just fragmented as they have individual Apps for different genres.

NewsCorp will no doubt be sensationalistic and borderline sleazy but I think I'll wait for a more respected news organization to do something similar.

Good old daze

Now I just need to get myself an iPad! :D

The Future is now ... Save the trees!!!
No more printing of newspapers, magazines, books, or anything else for that matter....
All gone. Like antennas on top of roofs, replace by cables and satellites, Newspapers and most printed material is being replaced by the iPad Age.

Maybe not at this moment but, soon.

Still like to sit outside with a cuppa and a newspaper. Agree with you, nep61, but we ARE losing something.

I like it. I'd pay for it if it beats my skepticism and doesn't turn out to be a Fox News clone. If they remain centrist and unbiased, I can afford 99¢ for an iPad purpose built news app.

That said, other players will most likely come forward with their own, at which point we can choose our favourite.

Verdict: I'll wait and see.

Baaaah! Who am I kidding? I can't bring myself to support Faux Newscorp.

Now that subscriptions are launched, I'll wait for the Huffington Post to launch their own subscription app.

oh, I know it's weird to quote myself :D

Happy about the In-App Subscriptions. Will pass on the propaganda from Rupert 'I only became an American to control your media' Murdoch.

I could not agree more. The NPR apps are amazing and their news comes in so neutral. I'm avoiding this app because of the sleaziness of Fox News and the availability of things like Flipboard.

Are you all trying to insinuate that Fox News isn't fair and balanced? Any news organization self-labeled as fair and balanced has to be nothing but fair and balanced.

Well, now you can sit outside with a cuppa and an iPad. No, wait. Actually, I guess you can't. Sunlight glaring on the glossy screen. Well, maybe if they fix the glare problem with the 2nd-generation iPad, or if it is a cloudy day...

It seems like Apple is finally giving consumers more options: The Daily can be purchased weekly, 3G iPad doesn't require a contract, iLife and iWork applications can be bought individually, iPhone on 2 networks......

What's going on Apple? Finally realized how to satisfy consumers? It took a while. :)

...and the Huffington Post is unbiased? Come on! I find it shocking that most people don't understand the difference between opinion and news. Fox News airs both news shows (which is what Shepard Smith does) and opinion shows (O'Reilly, that douchebag Hannity, etc.). If you are watching the pundits for news... you're not going to find it. If you watch Shepard Smith, you will find objective news reporting and not subjective political opinion.

Or you can

Buy a £400 device to read the news, no thanks!

use that device to play Carcassonne, manage your business, watch videos of your kids, share vacation photos with your mom, run your DVR, run a meeting, share a shopping list, and watch a movie.

What's your point?

can't hurt to try, but I'm wary of the subscription model - always forget to cancel in time.

yeah that sucks, if you forget to unsubscribe when you want you are on the hook for $1.00, that buys a hamburger at McDonald's you know. :D

Full Download for Offline Reading?

Does anyone know if you can download the full issue (interactive features and all) for offline reading (say, in a subway or airplane)? Thanks.

It's a welcome new platform for news. Hoping other players will release competing products soon.

Agreed. It looks very promising.

.99 per week is doable. May have to give it a try

I agree. I think they got the pricing right on this. A buck a week or $40 for a year is very reasonable. Unlike Time Magazine which charges $5 per issue!

So, am I just going to get a Murdock edited version of the news, like I get with Fox News?

I think it is too early to tell. Why don't you try it out for the free 2 week trial period and see if it is Fox News.

No international release is seriously weak. I've been looking forward to trying it too. Besides the fact that no localization is needed for English-speaking countries such as Canada, the UK and Australia, many people in Europe consume English media all day long, and are perfectly capable of reading a publication I'm English.

I think everyone besides America being excluded from this self-proclaimed digital renaissance is borderline offensive.

Exactly! Why does American companies always think we Europeans do not understand English? Just give me the same content in English and let me worry about the linguistic problems.

As long as the can keep things in the middle, this is way better then Flipboard...

For all Fox haters...

I'm confused, there is a two week trial so if you don't like it, you don't have purchase it. Quit the hating and move on to a forum that cares about your political opinion.
