Just read the first issue. I really like it. Its kinda like a newspaper, magazine, web, etc all tied into one. The graphics are very good as is the diversity of page layouts.

Lots of fun little videos and even the ads are fun to watch. But you can just swipe right on by if you want.

I don't see the need to keep the USA Today, Times, BBC or the other news apps I have as they are either extremely light in content or just plainly don't immerse you in the iPad like The Daily does.

The 360 view panorama thing is really nice.

The only downside for me is that videos and internet parts of the app are not available when offline. Could still read the vast majority while offline but still limits when I would want to sit down and read. Not to say you couldn't go back later but doubt I would do that.

I will use for the next 2 weeks but imagine I will subscribe. The price feels right to me.

Something constructive to say about the app without bashing someone. Good show!

All the NewsCorp bashers are completely missing the point.

This is the first real news delivery application completely built for the tablet platform. Yes, there are other news apps but they all tend to be web rehashes. The media industry has been struggling for years to break out of the outdated print model, but their stubbornness and lack of a suitable replacement have hamstrung them.

This type of app has the very real possibility to finally give the media companies that next evolution of the printed news publication. The price point on The Daily is quite reasonable when compared to print and it offers a different experience above the now 15-year-old straight web page.

Whether you agree with NewsCorp, Murdoch or not, all should be hoping that The Daily at the very least ushers in a new era for media.
Sunday Times app?

It is quite amazing to discover that when you are able to brush aside your political leanings that most news from the various outlets is reported the same. The only difference I see are editorials, which is opinion by definition.

You are either not paying attention or this is complete BS.

I don't know; I don't exactly sense bias, or propaganda, or mind controlling ads in this app. What are you people reading?

I mostly like it for the Soduku, Entertainment/Fashion, Weather, and design. The news part isn't too thrilling because it's stuff I've already read about. But the great thing is that it changes Daily. A whole new paper to read tomorrow morning. I think that's great.

I think I'll be investing in the 99 cents per week plan

I went through the whole issue without issues. I even did the Sudoku...

Same here, I'm actually impressed so far, much better than many of the other news apps out there, certainly no overt political overtones that I can see as of yet. :)

US news agencies are very US focused. There is never extensive coverage of International news here in the US. I always find myself going to foreign newspaper websites to get more detail on world news.

100% agree. See ABC World News, or any 'International' section of a paper:
- President Obama visited...
- In Iraq...
- The war on terror...
- All eyeballs here!! Massive disaster in an obscure place that won't be mentioned for the next three decades.
- Oil, energy, blah blah

I did not experience any of the crashing that some say happened although I am not disputing it.

Something else I liked in The Daily is that there are multiple ways to look at things. Little buttons that bring up little text items/stories. Swiping sideways and sometimes down. Clicking on videos. Touching top scroller to see each page which you can scrub through and select, the carousel view which you can select an article, clicking on the titles to go directly to a section and so on. There are also a lot of little story items that have just enough info and neatly arranged on the page. Easy and quick way to get a lot of info fast.

This keeps you from getting bored as you read through all of the content. Found this very refreshing after having used the USA today and NY Times for awhile. These apps are very repetitive and monotonous. Kind of like reading a book.

The Daily seems a lot more multimedia, modern. It gets the iPad.

It's a welcome new platform for news. Hoping other players will release competing products soon.

Exactly. Why all the "negative" votes. I downloaded the app and found it very user friendly. There were a few things I found lacking, but for a 1.0 app, this is simply amazing. Great job to The Daily staffers.

Is this really shocking? Of course the US News outlets are more focused on US news.

So far the delivery looks great. I like the 360, the embedded videos, etc. It looks like someone took some time and designed a way to deliver news content on an iPad rather than trying to shoehorn the old medium into the new medium. Its a new business model and I'm glad to see someone try it.

With regards to the content, the news seems solid so far. I love the way the sports section is handled as well. I could live without the horoscope and the Arts and Life sections, but I'm sure some folks like them so whatever. A full on SciTech section would round things out a bit.

As for the political slant, the indications I'm seeing is that the opinion page will be more of a libertarian bent than the conventional American notion of "right and left." Shikha Dalmia and Reihan Salam writing in the first installment foretell something more like Reason.com than Fox News. For example I wouldn't be surprised to see them bashing both tax increases and the war on drugs. I'm cool with this. If you're not, that's cool too. That's the beauty of living in a pluralistic society. Someone else will bring out a publication that espouses your values.

See how easy it is to get through a post on a controversial topic without calling anyone "evil"?

So far I am very impressed with the Daily. I can't wait to see what they eventually do with it. I would like it to not be online only though.

Wish they'd make a OS X version of this app so I can check it out, sounds cool beans.
Its a full head on immersive iPad type app. Without touch and the focused view of just a screen I doubt it would seem like much. A desktop has too many other distractions.

Is this really shocking? Of course the US News outlets are more focused on US news.

I think it is expected that they should be US focused and it is okay to be US focused. The problem is when major international news events don't get the coverage they should. Barely a mention somewhere that's it. Lindsay Lohan stealing a necklace gets more press than the flood in Australia or the civil uprising in Egypt and that is sad.

The app looks nice and is easy to use, but in the first hour of use it crashed.

The content looks good, but I would have expected more. Where's the business, technology, medicine, science news sections?

I'm subscribing for the full year, not so much because this looks like a great value, but because good, accurate, and objective news is worth paying for, and I'm hopeful that if people support the paid business model, that eventually someone will provide a good product.

This news app will cost murdoch. 30% less than if he decided to run it on his own. Thanks to Apple.

Clearly unfair competion. All news editors are infact pissed.

It is going to get ugly. The app could possibly be a good one, but Apple is shortly going to be in serious trouble.

Very, very big mistake

What on earth are you talking about?

Fox is not neutral in any way, shape or form, and this technically crafted trojan horse won't be either.

Read:

- CNN
- BBC news
- El Pais (España)

Then compare to fox/the daily. If you can say that these last two are neutral... well, you know... Nothing else to say.

If you think any news outlet which has human writers, researchers, and reporters has the capacity to be 100% neutral then you are deluding yourself. Everyone brings their biases with them and everyone tends to believe what they want to believe. (See Leon Festinger's Cognitive Dissonance Theory).

CNN, BBC, ETC is each just as biased as Fox, you just can't see the forest for the trees. Once you come to grips with this you'll be a more informed news watcher and critic.

Is this really shocking? Of course the US News outlets are more focused on US news.

It is shocking, when you pretend to cloak it as international (world) news.

Most buildings in Asia and Europe are older than the US itself, and civilizations have prospered for thousands of years before the US was 'discovered'. Some of us would like to keep up with the other 98% of the globe.

All I'm saying is that international news shouldn't start with "President Obama..." - or whichever president is in the office at the time.

I want a Daily for my iPod touch.

Nope

I won't put penny of in the pocket of this fear merchant. Shame on Apple for partnering with Murdolt.

Well yes, but that's just due to the focus of this publication on information targeted for the consumption by general public. Perhaps one day The Economist and other fine publications will also look similar The Daily in terms of the interactivity and visuals. The National Geographic is already doing an impressive job in this regard.

i'm more interested in the purported iPad 2 that was in the audience during the Daily's unveiling today.

I WANT THIS THING!

I like the idea of In App Subscriptions. As others have said I think this is just the beginning, and there will be a lot more content that will be coming in the future. Kudos to Apple.
