I just got my 13 Pro Max and I am done transferring data. Both screens with exact same icons and both at full brightness I give the edge to the 13. Not a night and day difference, but the white Health icon is definitely brighter white on the 13 compared to the 12. When side by side the white icon on the 12 looks a little “washed out” or a little gray.

Of course - screen brightness and color is very subjective but I work as a UI/UX designer and looks at screens all day, so I would say I have a little experience in estimating brightness. And I call OP a troll, just trying to stir **** up. :)

Just spent 1 hour in the apple store comparing them, and this is my take on max brightness with auto brightness off and True Tone off the 13 pro max was much darker than mine and the staff’s iPhone 12 Pro, they said 1200nits it’s a lie we compared a few and they are all darker in the apple store, they said outside it’s brighter but on max brightness it should be brighter not darker, also the notch is horrible it’s worse you notice the taller notch and even the apple staff said after I said it he noticed it to, I don’t understand how the new phones that are spose to be brighter are darker and also the whites feel flat he said my 12 pro max looked brighter and the whites popped more
In fact, you must have the auto brightness set to on to achieve maximum brightness. Try it with on, and manually increase the brightness to max.

No auto brightness doesn’t make it go brighter outdoor, if you disable it and put max brightness that’s the brightest the phone can go, and I’m not lying I have ordered the 13 pro max it’s coming soon but in the apple store at the same settings at max brightness the 13 pro max and other was darker, now maybe the retain stores have demo mode so it’s not as bright but comparing then side by side at max brightness the 12 looked better and the whites looked better, I don’t care if you don’t believe me, I’m allowed to say why I saw

What kinda response is that, the phone states it has 1000 nuts compared to 800nits so it should be brighter not darker, why is that allowed apple is lying
Well that’s the problem. The phone 13 Pro Max states it has 1,000 “nuts” compared to the iPhone 12’s 800 “nits”. You’re comparing apples to oranges. If I were you, I’d go back to apple and ask them where the iPhone 13 Pro Max stores it’s 1,000 nuts.

If I had to speculate, I’d say that storing all of those nuts must draw some of the power (ie to keep the nuts warm) that would normally be used to brighten the display.

Oh and if apple allowed to set brightness to 1000 nits manually you’d be making another thread about how battery lasts only a few hours.
All I’m saying is at max brightness and auto brightness turned off as I always have used my iPhones the 12 pro max was brighter in store that’s all I’m saying

Just stop typing my man, you're so wrong, you have no idea.

Also people have no clue how auto brightness works it doesn’t mean your display goes brighter outdoor with it in compared to having it off and having max brightness set they are the same, all auto brightness does is change it automatically not give you brighter displays outside

Wait so you went to the Apple store and found you didn’t like it and the notch looked worse but you ordered it anyways…

Are you at least going to make a YouTube video or is this just for a post on MacRumors?

You might be onto something here, not a deal breaker for me, my 12 pro max definitely looked brighter at 30/40%

Don’t have it anymore, so I can‘t compare them side by side.

I use to have my 12 pro max set to 30% when using it indoors, was using my 13 pro max today, felt a bit dimmer at the same brightness, had to bump it up a extra 10%

Maybe it’s a software bug, apart from that loving the phone, 120hz is awesome.

Do this small test so you don't fall for Kylo's nonsense.

Set your screen to max brightness. Turn on auto-brightness. Take a flashlight and point it to your phone's notch. Your screen will get even brighter.

Repeat the same thing but with auto-brightness turned off.

So you always use your phones with auto brightness off and max brightness? I feel for your phones ☹️

I will get mine today and I have several days before I have to return the old one so I’ll have plenty of time to compare them side-by-side. I’ve never had 120 Hz display on a phone so I’m going to see how that goes. I’m not expecting too much and from what I’ve read the battery life is a little bit longer so that will be worth it for the little bit I’m paying extra. As long as my trade-in goes well and it should because I just got this phone replaced with AppleCare a few days ago

120hz is awesome, loving the phone, lower brightness isn’t a deal breaker for me, let us know how you go, hopefully it’s a software issue.
