skills are not levels... skills have 5 levels each... but it isn't like leveling in rpgs.

skills are more like talents, the more skills you have... the more things you can do, but the OP already stated that the age of the player doesn't mean anything since if you max out on a certain task like frigate pvp, your opponent will be equal to you... his or her skills in industry/crafting do not apply to frigate pvp.

it can be seen as leveling process if your goal is to go from frigate to titan, but if you do not want to pvp at all... you can skill (aka talent up) in exploration or hauling or trading... if you were to have all the max skills which takes over 25 years (they will add more as time goes on, they already have) you still wouldn't be max level, for the reason above... any time you focused on a task, a 3-6 month player who specified in the same task would be equal to you, the rest of the skills are meaningless when comparing two players trying to perform in something specific.

you can have max skills, but you can't do 100 things at once... you can not haul while doing pvp, you can not trade while exploring. i'm just dragging this in now aren't i?

this is why in eve, a lot of players made alt accounts... one for pvp, one for mining, one for hauling etc... but multiboxing is against the rules now so you can't have too many alts since you as a human can not do 100 things at once either.

And been put into a newbie corporation... but I'm thinking maybe I should move beyond a newbie corporation. Some in the newbie corporation has said it's better to stay there because you involved in less wars. I'm wondering if maybe that may be true for now. What do others here think?

I've been playing for over a year now and am still in my original newbie corp. And I have no plans on leaving. I fly with a group of people that includes some who have been in this newbie corp for ten years.

Oh, you know ;-)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHn0pBePN7I

Seriously though, I do run an Alliance in a Facebook game called Stormfall, so I am hoping to get into the political arena in EVE Online as well. Ofcourse, it took me 2 years to get where I am in Stormfall, so I imagine it will take some time in EVE Online as well.

I don't have experience with other MMOs, but from what I've read, EVE is the quintessential MMO for politics. You don't need skills/levels/ISK to engage in politics within EVE, you just need your brain. Heck, the leader of the largest alliance in EVE has supposedly not logged his character in to the game for over three years.

As far as I know mulitboxing itself is fine. It's using tools to manage those clients instead of doing it yourself that isn't allowed. I have two accounts and I usually have both of them logged in at the same time. CCP (the company who made EVE Online for anyone reading who might not know) even updated the clonemaker for the Mac client so it would work with the latest release.

I want to, I want to.... no I can't. :p The battles look impressive as hell, but the time to get there seems excessive. I'm much better off with my 10- 15 minute tank battles in an evening. :)

There's a thing in EVE called Faction Warfare, in which certain systems are contested by, well, factions that you can join. You can log on, do a bit of flying, and probably find several fights in short order. However, many people in EVE like to play as a group so as a lone pilot you'll likely find yourself in a one-vs-many situation and you might find it frustrating. The best ship in EVE is the friendship - that is, playing with other people instead of solo makes EVE much more rewarding.

I agree! But for EVE, mostly I'm fearful, that scenarios build up over a a period of time. It looks like a great payoff, but my impression is that it could take a long time to get to it.

Mostly I solo in World of Tanks doing random battles, which can be frustrating at times. But I mostly enjoy playing with my Grandson. He's 14 and we have a blast. There is something said for coordination which in many cases is lacking in a random battle.

Sometimes I play with guildmates, but that can be tedious at times too. The nice thing about solo, is that when you are knocked out of the fight, you can drop the battle and proceed to the next fight without any waiting. When platooned, you have to watch the remainder of the fight, even when it's a loosing fight until your partners are knocked out

What is gambled on?

what?

if you mean what i'm gambling... its isk... the currency of eve.

if you mean what site im using... its iwantisk.com... from in game browser.

why is that site better than iwantisk? this site you bet on real life sports... it isn't a casino.

What can you experts tell me about Eve Valkyrie, the Eve dog fighter- Persistent world or battle matches? I'm assuming the later. How it connected to regular Eve? Are VR goggles required? Worried I'll get sick. :p The video in the link is impressive. Thanks!

valkyrie is not connected to dust/eve server, it is its own game and will not be persistent world... it is however set in the eve universe, there's not a lot of info on it besides trailers but some people say those vr headsets won't be required.

a lot of eve players think ccp is making this game to counter elite and star citizen
