Fast food burgers are generally thinner. Less time to cook. Plus with all the fancy gourmet garnishes and stuff, a fast food burger should take less time than a fancy one.

Chick Fil-A actually isn't all that bad if you avoid their fries. The grilled chicken sandwich and grilled nuggets are pretty healthy for bring fast food.

I tend to avoid most fast food but every now and then if I have a craving for that stuff we have a chain in the Southeast called Cookout. Superb burgers and fries. They also have a great selection of shakes too. Sometimes I go to Jack in the Box as well.

Interestingly enough that within walking distance I have:
Subway
Chick Fil A
Wendy's
Cookout
Jack in the Box
Chipotle
Bojangles

Takes some discipline to avoid this stuff on a regular basis.

Today my top choices: Subway, What a Burger, and Taco Bell, although for quality and variety, I have to mention McDonalds. Taco Cabana gets honorable mention for their brisket tacos, although they have general issues with restaurant cleanliness. And Sonic has seriously gone down hill in the last 10 years, although they make a mean foot long chilly cheese dog!

Coke vs Pepsi. I'm a big Pepsi fan, that's all we buy for home consumption, but I'm noticing that in my area (Houston) at fast food joints, the fountain Pepsi at places like Taco Bell and Arbies taste like crap. South Texas was the first place We (spouse and I) noticed that the soft drinks purchased at fast food was horrid, I assume something to do with the local water. However the best cola at fast food can be found at Jack In The Box, Coke, imho. :)

Have I Mentioned this before? I'm not sure how much local water can be found in restaurant soda pop. Anyone know how it is mixed up? I know the syrup is seperate, what I don't know is if restaurants use carbonated water, or have a device that adds carbonation to the local tap water? My taste experience seems to indicate the latter.

For soda fountains at stores. It's usually tap water and then they will have a carbon air tank that adds the "bubbles". Moving the tanks around was a major PITA, and when I worked at Carl's Jr. it usually fell to be my task as I worked with 95% females.

Thanks for answering my question as to why soda pop in areas with lousy water taste bad. How heavy were those tanks? In the spirit of sexual equality, they should have shared the load. I assume there was a dolly of some kind. :)

What exactly is 'dolly material'? Some sort of polymer? This is a term I have not come across before.

A hand dolly. hand cart. Made to help move furniture/heavy things.

I meant that it was something that could use a dolly, hand cart to move it. The material word is used as a descriptor. One example: the team is (of) professional material. Or you look like professional material. It's might be a dated phrase in the U.S. :)

Ah, thank you for the most kind explanation: This Side Of The Pond, that is a term I have never encountered, although, I do, of course, know the piece of equipment in question, and have, occasionally, very occasionally, used one.

What I have known as a hand cart……again, thanks.

No problem. Sometimes called a hand truck as well. Or if it is larger with a strap, a furniture dolly.

What is the etymology of the word 'dolly' when used in this context?

(Although - having just consulted the dictionary, it does, under the second heading - the first is the obvious meaning of 'dolly' - allow that the word 'dolly' can be used to describe "a small platform on wheels used for holding heavy objects, typically film or television cameras".)

Well, you learn something new everyday. Or, at least, you try to. Once again, my thanks.

I said dolly, but for the sake of clarity, what I showed you was a hand cart. Below is what I really think of as a dolly, but I use the term interchangeably.

6 Years Later- Another disappointment in fast food… I used to love Sonic’s Malts, now they no longer sell malts, and yesterday they had a 2 for 1 coupon on Milk Shakes and my chocolate shake did nothing for me, did not even finish it.

To me being an Army vet I always seem to find those hidden restaurants in area where I was assigned! I did most of time in 90s, 00s in South Pacific and fast food lost its appeal to me by the age of 22! The only one as working adult was Subway in golden years about once a year!

I guess I missed this thread / poll the first time, because the only legit fast food chains IMO are Shake Shack and In-n-Out Burger, and even those I patronize very infrequently — mostly because I don't live near In-n-Out territory anymore.

Foster's Old Fashioned Freeze was a really good regional chain in California. They were like a better version of Dairy Queen or A&W with a more roadside stand vibe. They still exist, but I haven't been to one in a million years.

I used to be a total Taco Bell loyalist, but 20-something years ago they stopped carrying Dr Pepper, and a symbiotic circle was broken. I ended up quitting soda and lost about 25 pounds in the process.

The best fast food chain, in my opinion, is Chick-Fil-A. Politics aside, their food consistently tastes great and their staff are the most friendly and helpful. Love Chick-Fil-A.
Yes the only disadvantage is the time and some have close to the room for DT without clogging everything. But otherwise spot on with freshness and accuracy and pleasantness

Arbys and Chick-fil-a are about it.

Used to eat at Hardees back in the day when they used to be here in Denver but I think the last one closed here back in the late 80s.

McDonalds is just plain disgusting. I used to work at one here in Denver back in high school and they used to keep the burger buns in the freezer and thaw them out each day. You could always tell they did this by the texture of the bread. They still do that at many or most locations that I can tell. All the other fast food places never did this.

Nothing beats a eat in restaurant where you sit down and wait while they cook your food fresh. Not food thats been made ten minutes before you order it.
Heck I would probably even be happy with ten. Most stuff has obviously been sitting a long while. I try to order rarely and only when lunch first starts
