I've heard it is coming back, too, in fact, I believe in Japan they have been selling the RX-7 and Supras to this day. I agree with the more reliable power delivery of a NA engine, but I just cannot describe the kinds of ****s and giggles you get when you are working a turbo...it's just a whole different experience and it's a blast.

My turbo is fast....a Camero SS may have lots more raw power at any given time and be faster overall...but when the turbo kicks in, you have the whole experience of the boost guage going wild, the sound of the turbo spooling up, the sound of the BOV between beautifully orchestrated shifts and the skills you pick up in order to keep that turbo spooling to its max at any given time. It takes more talent to get a turbo to perform to its capabilities, and to me, that's a big part of driving--the experience. Besides, when I have the turbo kicking in, this is basically all you see of my car...

I know exactly what you are talking about with the power rush. If you like that you would piss yourself on a 2-stroke dirt bike. With the older 2-strokes when they hit powerband they all but ripped your arms out of there sockets and tried to flip over backwards in the process. The new ones have a lot better power delivery but still have a huge rush of power. Also 4 cylinder sport bikes have a huge rush of power too way more then any turbo car I have ever driven.

Its fun to be in, but not as much as one would think, it is still very sporty.

RX-8 next year. I heard they already had pictures of it.

Yes, the RX-8 is out, I saw a red one just a few days ago when coming back from Barnes and Noble...very sexy looking, but lacks in torque...it could definitely learn something from its twin turbo older brother :)

My dad has a 240Z. What a great car. He hasn't driven it in years though as it was in mint condition until two people hit him in two days and totaled it. He bought it back from the insurance company and parked it.

Just one question. Why do you have bigger discs on the rear of the car then on the front?

When i did the car, due to the adjustable suspension i couldnt get the bigger brakes on the front as well. If anyone wants to buy my big brakes i got for the front, lemme know :)

And as for the supercharger vs. turbocharger for my car, i can get the upgraded turbos that were made for the 280Z bloody cheap and then further modify the hell out of it. Where as if i went supercharger i would have to have it specially designed. I only know one other person with a supercharger on their 240Z (and i know a LOT of people with Zs thanks to the Ontario Z Car club) and it cost him close to $8000 to put it on his car. Im looking to do the whole project for roughly $2000 tops. And also ive already got close to 350HP (my motor is on the virge of insane for a Nissan striaght six motor) so i dont really care about the extra gains from the supercharger.

Hope these two posts answer the questions people have had about my car. Oh and one last thing for the record, I've never topped my car out. Im pretty sure in the condition its in now it can pull close to 170 - 180 MPH but the front end just lifts to much. Also next year im going to put on this bumper and a fiberglass rear bumper.

350HP in a 240z is a lot of power. They don't weigh very much and they are quite aerodynamic. The front bumper/spoiler will make a HUGE difference in stability at speed. The car will also accelerate better at higher speeds due to improved aerodynamics.

Regularly hits the 130s, but on a couple of wild occasions, has hit the 160s. Not too shabby for a 25 year old car.

That was without the dragon on the roof.

Yes, I live in a suburban wasteland.

no kidding, i see to many giant al wings on thes ugly civics i find it so ugly, but they like it. my friend came over and we test drove my acrua, he said if you rice this up or put those damn stickers on the window ill kick your ass. and i completly agreeed with him. my car came with the OEM spoiler, and I plan on putting the OEM acura body kit on there, because it gives it a sportier sleeker look. other than that im through.

There are lots of subtle ways to do it. You could, for example, add a ton of horsepower by reworking the exhaust and the heads without any outward signs. But maybe that's not "ricing it up"? I have to agree with you , though. The sight of civics with 2" exhausts spitting out of a 6" tailpipe crack me up.

i dunno, i think of "ricing" a car up more as adding really gaudy rims, putting on outrageous paint jobs, adding racing stickers, putting on those body kits that go down almost to the ground, adding a nitrous oxide kit to it...

i don't thing tweaking the exhaust/intake system on a car to improve performance is ricing it. you don't need flashy exhaust pipes to make the exhaust system pump it out. you can probably make such mods conservatively. i'd be all for that, long as you know what you're doing.

yeah im debating with my self if i want to get the cold air intake, i know it will give my TL a throatier sound instead of a bumble bee. i would replace the headers because they will add tons of horsepower, but ill have to wait for more cash. I have 3 small mods to start my car knowledge of with. i ordered hyper white bulbs to replace my high beams and fogs to matce my low HID's. this will hold me off until i buy real HID's. i am going to rewire my fog lights so i can drive with them without the headlights on. My dad is also going to help me hardwire my new radar detector to my fuse box so i dont have wires all over the place.

do radar detectors actually do anything for you? i was talking with an ex-cop when i took defensive driving some time ago, and he was laughing at the people who'd spent so much money on them now. he said that they've changed radar gun to only put radar signals out when they gun someone, so that it's basically too late for the detector to tell you there's a cop around, because you've been gunned already. the only thing they are good for, he said, is telling you you've been gunned before you get pulled over.

While this is true, it doesn't mean that radar detectors are useless. If you're smart about your driving patterns, you always try to have a pack of fast cars out in front of you. Your hope is that when they point the radar at them, you'll pick it up and be able to stop before they point the radar at you.

Of course, someone who understands this doesn't want to be the one driving out in front of you. Fortunately, there is no shortage of dim but lead-footed people on the highways

well it has saved my ass many times. ill be driving down the bypass and it will go beep beep beepa nd whatever alert. I slow down to the speed limit, and by gollly there was a cop sitting there running radar. and i see lots of cops driving around town who set mine off, they arent running radar but they have theres one. it has saved my butt many times and i havent gotten a ticket since ive gotten one. so its up to you. most raods i know where the cops chill sincei travel the same roads almost everyday so i know when i can drive the hell out of my car and when i need to slow down.

hah, ok. maybe he was just trying to scare us or trick us into not buying radar detectors. :D

I agree about the radar detectors, but some, like the Valentine 1, actually pay for your ticket if the detector did not work for you. As far as the "rice-ing up" your car debate, I like things to be stealthy. On my car, I simply did internal work, such as removed the resonence box, added a custom air intake from parts I got from Home Depot and had it running down the inside of the bumper next to the fog light, did some internal tweaks to the turbo, increased the psi by a few lbs, added better fuel injectors and spark plugs, and stuff like that. My car looks purely stock, the only outside parts that are different are the slightly wider tires, the better wipers, the xenon lights, and the Apple sticker on the hatch glass. I've thought of swapping out the rims on my car with stock 96-97 chrome GT rims, but they are hard to find in good condition without paying an arm and a leg for them. The resulting look is very much stock, but now a top speed is well into the 150s and acceleration is down into the high 5 to low 6 depending on shifting. Definitely not bad for a 14 year old 145 hp stock with 169,000 miles on her.
