I think we did "get over it" and made our own poll! :p

----------

Ok I'm not going to lie I have so many coach bags I could open a store, and me and Tiffany's silver jewelry go wayyyy back!

I've moved beyond Tiffany's silver to platinum, but I blame my engagement ring/wedding rings for that leap. Don't get me wrong, I still have plenty of silver that I love from there, too. LOL.

I do love a nice high-quality bag. My kids got me my most recent acquisition for Christmas. It's a Coach (a Crosby Crossbody in leather, to be specific). They know their mother, clearly.

I understand. That's what I'm saying.

ETA: I just realized that I bought myself a Lucky Brand Leather tote last month. Ooops. ;)

Another over 40 female reporting in.

My partner and I are both fairly nerdy, but of the two of us, I'm the more nerdy one. I tend to be the one staying up to preorder Apple products, but he was the one who woke me up at 4 am to get in line for the iPhone 6/6+. I'm loving my Apple watch, which I got about two weeks ago, but my partner decided it wasn't for him. We ended up giving his watch to my Mom, who just got told by her doctor she needed to move around more, and so she was looking for an activity tracker. At first, she was only going to use the activity function, but I just texted her and she seemed excited about getting the text notification on her watch! :D

I think my partner may get on board the watch in the second or third gen. He took a long time to give up his flip phone, but when he finally got an iPhone, he loved it. He now tends to walk around with his eyes glued to his phone, and I'm amazed he doesn't bump into things more often. But he doesn't take the time to learn the details of what iOS can do or how to troubleshoot the phone -- whenever he runs into a problem, he makes me research it and/or fix it for him. He could do it himself if he really wanted, but he knows I'm faster at it than he is. But that's ok, I leave the cooking and laundry to him! :p

Another woman here.

I admit that my husband got me into Macs. But I was running Gentoo before that, and only switched because I was so busy I didn't have time to keep recompiling my kernel any longer.

I just have to point out that not only was the original post sexist, but it was also pretty heteronormative. Not every male in a relationship has a female partner.

And by the way, sexism does not depend on the intent of the author. That's the thing about excluding an entire group. Maybe you didn't mean to exclude them, but you still did.

If you step on my toes on accident, you still stepped on them. It doesn't make you a bad person, like you would be if you stomped on them on purpose.

But when you do something on accident, "Oh, my bad! I'm sorry!" is always a good follow-on.

THIS. Very well said.

Way to be biased. I'm a female so thanks for assuming that everyone on here is a man. I am way more tech'd out than most men I know. Forget shoes and purses and clothes, I'd take another computer or tech gadget any day. Some people binge eat when they are sad..I head to the computer store.

I have camped out for every iPhone since the first one, and I have been a true mac person before it was fashionable. I used to love going to the computer swap meets and picking up the newest programs on the 5" floppy disks.

I have 4 Windows tablets 2 macbook airs, one macbook pro, 2 windows 8 touchscreen laptops, 3 windows desktops, I'm down to only 1 IPad, The IPhone 6+, I got my 42 SS Classic Black Band delivered on launch day, and I'm still waiting on my 42 SSSB.

Does my Playstation 3 and 4, and my Vita also count? How about the all region DVD player so I can watch my old school KungFu movies subbed not dubbed region 3 dvd's?

Not to mention I may be old enough to be your mother if you're in your 30's. Sorry some of you got the wrong partner. I couldn't be with someone who doesn't like tech or would give me crap about how much I spend.

I work hard and life it soo short. I do like to cook though and hate sports so I guess that's girly.

Okay that was a long enough break from obsessively checking the status of my watch due May 13 - 27th.

Your post was boss until you said that cooking was girly. Completely contradicted the entire idea of your post to begin with.

As a girl, everything I do is girly. Everything I own is girly. LOL. My black Subaru WRX is a girl's car. My computers, my converse (that I buy in "mens" sizes because that's the only way they make them), my rugby cleats - all girl's, because I'm a girl and they're mine.

I'm happy to own the "girly" term, because I'm darn proud to be a girl.

When I told my wife I was buying an apple watch I got the same reaction when I bought a Corvette last year, "do what you want, you will anyway". But she really enjoys riding in it.

My wife is not a techie person... but she does still really appreciate technology and she definitely lets me "do my thing" with gadgets. She actually watched the Apple Watch unveiling on AppleTV while I was at work so that she could talk to me about it that night. Cool lady :)

I bought her the first gen iPad (when I bought one for myself as well)... but it just didn't stick. She went back to her Macbook instead. She now has a Macbook Air and still has no interest in an iPad.

Like the OP she is still using an iPhone 5S... and REALLY does not want one of the new bigger phones (I upgraded to a 6+ myself).

She doesn't want anything to do with an Apple Watch herself. Just says that she would rather have *other* jewelry instead!

That said, she does enjoy technology. We have a small, modern condo that we've tricked out with all kinds of gadgets. Our philosophy is, if it has to be so small then we can afford to stuff it full of cool stuff. Here's some of the gadgets we have:

1. All Hue lights everywhere. Hue Taps in all rooms to control them. (I'm really surprised, but my wife does pull out her iPhone and set individual lights the way she wants them if she's going to be in a room for a while!).

2. Nest thermostat (tied in with the lights... and the entertainment system)

3. Harmony Home Control on both TVs... tied in with the lights in each zone and Nest thermostat.

4. Automatically opening trash cans from Simple Human. Once you get used to them you'll never go back!

5. Withings smart body analyzer scale.

6. Simple Human automatic soap dispensers at both sinks (this is actually nicer than it sounds ;-)

7. Bluetooth speaker in the shower.

8. AppleTV's on both TVs (she loves that she can just dial up movies easily).

I'm really surprised... but my wife uses (and enjoys) all of this stuff. (Just to be clear... I'm surprised because she's not into technical stuff herself... not because she's a woman! I'm a nuclear engineer and I work with some of the smartest and most technical women on the planet... I definitely know that women can get down with tech just as much as dudes!)

She loves getting out her iPhone and using the Harmony app to click "Watch a Movie"... and the TV, receiver, Bluray player all come on and switch over automatically then the lighting is drawn down in the room automatically and the air conditioning is set to the perfect moving watching temperature (69 degrees according to my wife). She smiles every time ;-)

Great thread and it's nice to see that all of us women are coming out to chat. 51 yr old female and no male in my life, other than my sons, at this time. I love my gadgets and really the first day I got my watch, April 24, I was using the remote app to control my Apple TV as I have no cable. I felt pretty geeky but must admit it was damned convenient it was to have the remote on my wrist.

I have used my mac mini as my dvr connected to cable when I had it. I have been using Mac's since the first Mac Mini came out. I used to build PC's and one of my brothers came over on April 25 for me to work on his 2008 Macbook. My son's do like that get all the Apple phones as for the most part they get the hand me downs.

Bought her one, but I don't think she likes it as much as I like mine.

Mine is on from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep. I even hate to have to take it off. She wears it when she remembers.

Naw! Total sarcasm! I know many people no mater what gender love to cook. Just trying to at least simewhat "relate" to what the OP night think is gender normative! :roll eyes:

Mine lays in the bed next to me charging at night!! I got the extra long charging cable!!

Can you imagine if we started a post on here titled "the problem with men" and were complaining about how much they spend on tech both in time and money how that would go over???!!!

Talk about getting reamed!! I'm just sad that it took a post like this to bring us all out. It's nice to be able to bond ov er shared interests and not be assumed to be one of the "guys"!

We may have to have a thread to reach out and chat about this stuff and not have to have it in reaction to ignorance. I'm going to admit I'm jealous of you all with the engineer/IT and other hard science partners and are in these fields yourself. Jealous but proud!

I'm a professor in social work and don't get much access to people out of my field. Some social workers are still scared of tech. The kids I do therapy with are fully immersed because it's their life now and most of the parents, male or female don't have a clue about what their kids know and access just through their phones alone. I do have more cred with my kids after they see the apple watch like I did with the 6+. ( I'm probably going to hell for making some them jealous!! I have been showing it off!) :p

Sorry, normally when I quote a post I cut it down to the pertinent parts. But now I'm on a different page and replying to your post in general.

That is an amazing setup and your home deserves its own thread! My husband and I are settling into a big house in the country (but convenient to everything) that we bought last year. It's got two separate heating and cooling systems, so when I want to make any adjustments I have to run up and down the stairs to match two thermostats so that the two systems don't work against each other. That's not taking into account a third electric baseboard heating system for each room in the basement.

Then there are all the lights. I think our house is approximately 4900 sq feet. Many of the lights are controlled by duplicate sets of switches on opposite sides of large rooms or corridors. Still, it can be a bit of a chore when entertaining to run to the different switches to adjust lighting.

Then there's the acre plus of land with elaborate gardens. The entire property sat vacant on the market for almost a year. It is a full time job for me to restore the land. Plus I do landscape work for our kids school which is private and also in the country and relies on parent volunteers. Plus I do housekeeping on occasion for my parents.

I don't have a maid or gardener. Just a service that only comes out to mow the lawn. So even though exercise is a good thing and it wouldn't kill me to get off my lazy butt and turn on lights and adjust the thermostats, I am drooling over your setup. Some days I'm so sore and tired from housework and yard work I wish I were a Harry Potter type of wizard and could control everything with a magic wand. It sounds like you and your wife have the next best thing to magic going on there.

I'm going to discuss with my husband your setup and see if we can eventually afford to do that to our house once we get past all the expenses of restoring existing features and infrastructure.

Oh great I forgot to ask if any of the controls on your setup can now be operated via the Apple Watch or would that be impractical to expect they ever could?

All I read here was you have a gross ps4. Xbox all the way.

PS4 has better graphics! Ok, I know that's not exactly true but it does have a faster video card...I think.

We have both, best of both worlds :) we mainly want the ps4 for the exclusives...uncharted is *only* a year away.

lol!!! It's purely a hate Microsoft thing!!!! I do love my Vita though.
I think the Vita was the only device where you could get Assasins Creed: Liberation where they have the female Aveline de Granpre. They also have her as a DLC on AC Black Flag IV. It's a Playstation exclusive.
Not a serious gamer but it works for me. I also use the Ps4 for DVD's and Bluerays. I have so much HDMI equipment hooked up to the TV I had to get an extra adapter to add 4 more ports.

Don't you mean "couldn't care less"?

I can never keep that one straight myself. Drives me bonkers. I have to sit there and think about it.

Maybe it's the ultimate in apathy if you could care less, but you don't want to go to the bother!

Ouch, I think my head just exploded in a poof of feathers.

This sums it up for me. Made me chuckle.

It seems that quite a few people on here are remarking on their wife or significant other getting her watch before his own kind of thing, with some mentioning wearing their watch until their wife's arrives. This I guess is in part because of the fact that the 38mm may be in less demand and so as most women would go for the smaller watch, they are shipping sooner.

And there are a few comments about guys who don't want their wife to see the CC bill with their Apple Watch on it as she wouldn't approve.

I apparently ended up more with the latter. The tech 'meh' wife, rather than the 'me want tech' wife. :( My wife could have upgraded her iPhone 5 in December but still uses it and ironically reads a lot of iBooks and Kindle books on it, and has no interest in getting a 6 or 6 Plus. Even when I explain that after I sell her phone unlocked the net cost will be negligible. We may even make a few bucks.

So she will never want an Apple Watch. And she gives me crap for my fandom and gadgetry. Funny how she doesn't complain when she forgets to set the DVR to record a show and I can do it from my phone while we are out or any other numerous things that I can 'magically' do.

For those married or long-term relationship guys - are you with a woman who has/wants an Apple Watch or one who is more likely to give you crap for having/wanting one?

EDIT: this was suppose to be a poll. But the forum decided to send it to oblivion. So no poll. - For me the obvious answer is - give me crap for having/wanting an Apple Watch.

1. Wants/Has an Apple Watch too.

2. Gives you grief/crap for wanting/having Apple Watch.

3. Could care less either way / thinks it's cool but doesn't want one.

I am a wife, I am the techi in my relationship, I am the one who upgrades to almost every new iPhone (currently have the iPhone 6+). Has owned an iPad (2 actually-1st gave to my husband & replaced with iPad mini & gave mini to son after purchasing iPhone 6+). So my husband would get my hand me downs (except the iPhone 5, he got that new). He has no interest in upgrading to either 6 version, very happy with 5 (& its size). So I, of course, wanted the watch too! He was excited for me when my ordered switched to "shipped"! He also convinced me to purchase the band in my favorite color, green (I was having a difficult time deciding if I wanted to spend another 60$ after buying the watch)! My point...he has no interest in the watch but I am happily wearing my 38mm SG AW & have my perfect iPhone 6+, NO COMPLAINTS from my wonderful husband! #

To the posters who said about losing things in a handbag and using a pouch, I had terrible trouble until I bought a Knomo elektronista earlier this year. Goes most places with me, including on the meeting room desk and I can grab whatever is needed in two seconds. Highly recommended and looks great (I am a Knomo obsessive though).

What is this magic? I must check it out!
