And your logic was: iPod Touch is not in the image so its being discontinued, so I merely highlighted other devices that were in the image that by your logic were obviously going to get discontinued as well.

And yes iPod Touches are used in business. Again 1 percent of Apple's profits is still fairly significant. The fact that they're able to sell a 3 year old device is pretty impressive. There must be some sort of demand.

You don't know if its dead or not. Wait till Apple's next announcement.

Apple never announces anything regarding killing gadgets...they only remain silent.

I'm not waiting for anything, for me the deadline was fall 2014, but i really enjoy watching some of you still discussing about the issue, full of hope...it's fun.

But also i'm a little pissed off with apple, they don't kill the gadget or upgrade it....what are they thinking lol? instead they are givin the old ipod touch 5 1 more year of life....weird decisions...

This happened with the classic, so i personally assume something similar is happening with the touch:

The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in 2013 revealed no new iPod Classic and Apple was not expected to produce another one. Production of the iPod Classic continued in low volumes as a stop-gap measure to clear out and monetize inventory of unused stand-alone parts.

RIP ipod Touch.

There may not be another iPod Touch but that would surprise me. Its popular for business, for kids etc. One major reason its not selling is the fact its not been updating it years. Unless you're Apple then you can't be certain either way.

The iMac, Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, Mac Mini, Mac Pro iPhone 6+ etc are also not in that image - does that mean they're also being discontinued?

The Apple TV and iPad Mini are far from being discontinued. The only device that discontinuation is a bit credible is the Touch. However we'll see later in the year.

The iPod Touch isn't popular, period. iPod Touch sales are a rounding error on Apple revenues and income. :(

Its still selling - Incredible given the internals are 4 years old.

Apple has decided that people don't want the touch, that is why it is not selling.

There's a lot of room to discuss cause and effect, I agree - but it's selling in approximately the same sense that a human body on full life support is still alive. OK, maybe not that bad, but you said "popular." It's not "popular" in any commercially meaningful sense of the word. I actually don't think that Apple's marketing has a lot to do with it. The world, on the whole, has moved on. Don't misunderstand me - I still carry one and use mine daily, but I don't remember the last time I saw anyone using an iPod Touch. :-/

Why on earth would the Mini die? Its very popular!

My guess is that they see it as a lesser device than the Air, so they will only properly upgrade it every second year. The Original Mini was 1 generation behind, so I don't see the 3rd mini as anything out of the ordinary.

The Mini being popular is actually part of the problem. As a product become more of an an appliance the cycle gets longer.

Example: When a consumer looks at a product they already have an older model of, they have to ask: "is it worth the upgrade" ... Apple knows this and knows they have to offer some reason(s) to upgrade.

Products also compete with each other from the same company. If the mini 3 had all the exact same specs as the iPhone6+ except larger size and no phone, it would have flown off the shelves and this would have an impact on the sales of Apples money maker.

There was no valid reason that Apple couldn't have made the mini3 the same as the iPhone6+ without the phone. There is no valid reason that Apple couldn't have made the iPT6+.

It's a business decision to make as much profit as they can, and they are doing that very well.

As far as upgrades are concerned, Apple knows that if they put out a product that they can't trump in the next round, then Samsung or LG will trump them and grab market share. Apple wants to be the LAST phone/pad you buy when the product cycle slows. In order to do this, they have to have the last word. This is also why they want to own the business market and not be compatible with Android or Windows phone. The one that owns the marketshare will be able to sell the apps and crush others.

They simply want to lock as many people in as they can, and they are actually doing a good job at it, even if much of what they are talking about at WWDC is old news on other platforms. Thumbs up for how they do business, but the cost to the consumer is a bit steep if they upgrade every cycle.

I see people with them regularly :p

I know they're not as popular, but Apple is squandering a good opportunity.

It is possible that Apple may upgrade the iPod Touch (and perhaps expand it) if they feel they need it to advance Apple Music. I could see them bundling 6-12 months free with the purchase of a Touch simply to get some traction with Apple Music.

Totally agree. However, if they do decide to make a promotion like this and the IPT doesn't sell as Apple hopes, I can definitely see Apple discontinuing this product line.

I agree that that seems to be the best chance for the iPod Touch to take another step forward (as opposed to stepping into an open hole in the graveyard. :( ). Time will tell...I figure that if the traditional fall announcement cycle(s) in 2015 go by without a refresh, you can mark the Touch RIP.

I think it’s more likely that Apple will update the iPod nano this fall than the iPod touch because it’s so different from other iPods and newer. I hope they’ll have a 64GB version available cause that would hold all my music. It would be great for the car and workouts. One thing I really like about my iPod nano is that it has the “crossfade” feature that other iPods & iPads don’t have.

I haven't seen any IpT recently, but OTOH, I've moved to a rather remote area, so that's not saying much.

FWIW, even when I first got my IpT5 back in 2013 and was meeting a more diverse group of people, I think I may have seen 1 to 3 other IpT out there?

EDIT: Definitely recall seeing at least 4 IpT-es....

An acquaintance had an IpT4, which he jailbroke so he could use the home button as controls for a music player. However, his next device that replaced that was a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (gave his IpT4 away to a family member). He read many comics in CBR format, and the screen was big and wide enough in portrait mode that he could get the perfect level of zoom... out far enough to not have to do much panning, but in far enough that he could read everything.

3 other cases were strangers. This time period spans 2008 to 2013.

There are almost no touch's here in retail stores so it's either going to be discontinued or updated.

The clear choice if you need a media player is an android phone, you can get them as cheap as $10 and upgrade the memory with a SD card, That's 10% of the cost of a $200 iPod touch. They can do everything the iPod can do. If there is a little inconvienience from going from Apple to android I think that would be well worth a $180-190 savings. If you want to use it without service that is super easy too. I paid $20 for the Moto G recently and it has a screen as good as the iPhone 6 if not better. I find that almost every kid has a prepaid android phone these days instead of a touch, with android phones as cheap as they are, there is no need for the touch. No one is going to pay the price for a touch when android provides a huge savings. I still have the iPhone but when it becomes outdated my next purchase will be a better quality android phone for sure.

you don't have any apps nor games you'd like to keep?

Me.. nothing's essential from my IpT5, but I did amass $150+ of stuff that I keep it around as a handheld system. I'd like to continue that with an IpT6 with 1 GB system RAM, A7, and 4.7" screen, but if the IpT5 will be the end of the line for me, then I'll hold on to that. For that reason, I've been stuff for Android over iOS if there's a choice.

This is very true. The Moto G is frequently on sale for $20-30, and it is much better than the iPod touch in almost every way. There is no reason to spend $200+ on the iPod when you can get alternative Android phones.

It is sad, but the iPod touch era is dead. But being optimistic, we are at a point in technology where great devices (the Moto G), can be purchased for the price of an iPhone case.

The screen on the Moto G is nowhere near as good as an iPhone. If you're going to buy an android phone, why a cheap one? I don't get that. Why not spend as much as you would on an iPhone and at least get a decent device?

Oddly enough, I just had lunch across the street from my office and saw a girl (maybe late teens, early 20's) with a blue ipod touch 5g. and i just bought my daughter (9 years old) the very same model for her birthday last week.

I would say with recent rumours the Apple TV is safe, but the iPod may be at an end, Apple Music is a streaming service and whilst the iPod T has WiFi it can't stream over cellular like phones can.

No one knows for sure, but so far the evidence does point strongly to it's demise, if they don't update the iPod's this year then I think they are at the end of an era.

I don't think thin-ness is the defining attribute. I'd say the ability to own an iOS device without needing a two year contract (that tends to be quite expensive) promotes relevance.
Plus, not having to deal with cell band means the IpT gets superior battery life.
