I actually like these backplates, the blue and gold are really pretty.

Gear Fit looks nice too.

Samsung basically said,

"Hey HTC, LG, Sony, Motorola - we don't think you have what it takes, so we're gonna release this POS to help you out."

2014 SHOULD be the year we see Android competition heat up a bit.....we'll see if it actually plays out.

Water resistant. I thought that it was cool how they are trying to make that a standard.

If it's anything like the GS4 Active, it's not an issue. I'm not going swimming with it. Just want to be able to use it while it's raining/snowing, etc outside.

That's a gorgeous color.

Also.

According to the video in this link (can't embed), the flash on the back doubles as a heart rate monitor. Very interesting.

I also like the backs. Especially the gold and black. At the end of the day though the device is customisable. If you don't like the back and must have something metal you can change it.

The Gear Fit looks cool, but is only compatible with Samsung devices so that's a no go, same with the Gear 2.

As for the S5, its typical Samsung, not my cup of tea, but curious why people were expecting something different. Its like when people expect Apple to do something crazy, its just not them.

Waiting on the One 2 now, and unless they mess it up (which is possible after seeing the leaks), I'm content enough with my Nexus 5 to wait until the Nexus 6, and possibly Moto X2, though I'm not too excited about them anymore after the Lenovo sale.

The usb flap on my S4 Active drove me nuts. I recommend a wireless charging pad.

Samsung's USP was coming out with many variants, new phones and designs to fit people's needs..With a minimal change in design from the S3 to the S4 and now from the S4 to the S5 this is slowly fading..No one would be able to tell the difference between the S5 and the S4 once you put them in a case...Thats a bummer as one would have hoped that some the renditions being rumoured came true..

In my opinion the S4 has a better display than the iphone 5/5S.

Anyhow I don't think there are any gimmicks involved with the S5. Where is the eye scrolling, or smart stay, smart pause?

I find it ironic that people are now saying that the S4 was a good upgrade. Last year you were all moaning saying that the S4 was too much like the S3 and was full of gimmicks.

Oh I forgot amongst all the excitment. The S5 will now take a 128 GB micro SD card. I think that's great. Imagine all the stuff you can store on there.

I could never justify spending $800 plus on a plastic phone then watching it drop in price by the month.
People will buy it being water proof though.

I don't see much of a reason to get this if you already have a 2013 flagship.

I agree! I think the S4 looks better personally and minus the heart rate & fingerprint scanner it won't be a ton different.

Personally the thing that Samsung has done is set the bar so high that's hard to out due itself year after year.

I don't really care too much about what a phone is made of, as long as it isn't going to fall apart. I bought a 5S at the begining of the year. I paid ~$800 for it and after a few weeks I regreted it. The phone looks gorgeous but it lacks in functionality. At the end of the day I didn't think it was worth the money and I sold it and bought an S3. Now that is worth the money imo.

Well this is what it boils down to imo. Apple have the same problem. What more can they do?

Nope just the one we saw in the leak from earlier.

Oh....

And no genuine exciting changes to Touchwiz either it seems..

No matter how good the phone undoubtedly is - it still feels like a giant MEH!

I'm not sure it's enough to drive S4 owners to upgrade early.

I don't like it just because of it's bigger size. It didn't need to get bigger. 5+ is getting into the "phablet" range and that's too big for a phone. I think the GS5 is going to cut into the Note sales.

I really hope Apple makes a bigger iPhone. There is too much of a gap between the small iPhone 5S and the now huge Galaxy S series.

The Galaxy S5

I played with one at Samsung's event nothing special to write home about.
