Sony does the 6 month cycle...... If you buy the Z2 today....Sony is already working on the Z3 for fall/winter release. Would you be mad about that?

IPad 3 owners were very upset when the 4 was announced, remember?

I wouldn't be so mad, but definitely a little bit upset.

Just been watching some hands on of S5... Whilst Touchwiz appears cleaner aesthetically it appears to be as heavy on memory.

I took a screenshot from YouTube android authority hands on. Look at task manger. No active apps and it's already at 1.17gb of ram out of 1.81 with NO active applications....

:( wishing they had put 3gb in there like the Note 3.

Compared to my S4 GE with 9 active applications in background I am at 853mb with 950mb free....

But doesn't all the benchmarks show it bests the S4?

Benchmarks are a CPU test not testing memory usage....

Yep but benchmarks as we know aren't an indicator of real world usage, and it's testing CPU not memory usage.

We know the CPU is the 801 and it beats the note 3's 800, and s4's 600

However memory is what concerns me, and I'm wondering if like the S4 with Touchwiz will we see little hiccups once the device is running a number of apps.

I know when I had my TW S4, I would sale close to wind maxing out the memory with not too much open, indeed it almost made me OCD about memory management.

The Note 3 circumvented a lot of this by giving users that extra memory to play with and I never felt like I had to manage my memory on the Note 3. But in general the Note 3 ran with about 1.6-1.9gb used with a few apps open, which as I say it gets away with because it still left 700-800mb free.

With the S5 if it's like the S4 - if your using same amount of memory as Note 3 your pretty much topping it out, and again personally that makes me feel like I have to manage the memory and de bloat it somehow, an unpleasant experience that the Note 3 didn't have thankfully.

So yeah despite having beefier CPU which is great, I would personally still be concerned about memory usage. If that is where memory is sitting with no active applications open (1.17gb of 1.81) , I think 3gb would have been far more ideal in this model (especially given they gave us 3gb with the Note 3)

I hope it does better than the S4 does. I have mine on pre order so i will post back when i have it in hand. Hopefully with the TW improvements it will do better with memory management. Everyone that has had hands on in other forums say the S5 is very snappy and TW is way better than the S4. We will see soon! :)

Yeah keep me posted, I really want to hear your experience with it :).

I've been watching many videos and one thing I've noticed is again the slowness when opening apps. You can see the app interface loads first and then the content loads up. It's really annoying. The new One doesn't do this and no Nexus device I've tried does this either. My Nexus 7 loads apps instantly, just like the 5 did when I had it.

But with TouchWiz the app interface pops up first, with no content inside. Check it out with the phone app, messages, etc. I hate it.

What improvements? :):)

Do we know for certain that Samsung has made TouchWiz less resource hungry? All I know and have seen is just a new flat look.

I seriously doubt Samsung has done anything else to TouchWiz aside from that. Just like MRU has said, TouchWiz still takes up a lot of ram.

Samsung changed the look and added a few new features. That's all I think.

Did you see the Toms Hardware bench score a few posts above this one? I think i trust them a little more.....every bench score shows pretty much the same thing. I am sure you can find tons of youtube videos that can show whatever they want....but there are some pretty reliable independent sites the prove otherwise....

Every reviewer that has reviewed the phone has said it is faster with no lag. Every reviewed has said TW is flatter and faster that the S4 and some said it is on par or faster than the N3 as well..... I get mine next week.....i will post back my finding and some pics as well.....

Stop being a fanboy and trying to defend your purchase. Who cares about bench scores. If it doesn't perform, those stupid bench scores don't mean squat.

Take it easy man lol why so hostile....

Go get one and see for yourself, the new tw on the s5 runs like my note 3 flawless, i have used the phone and not a display model but a new phone from a friend, there is no lag with apps or animations.

Doesn't surprise me

there has never been any lag on my note 3 either.

Not hostile. I've been trying to search for any videos that show the GS5 being faster than the 5S. I can't seem to locate any. I'm trying to like the GS5. Maybe the Note 4 will be faster.

Glad I am not a spec whore. How did people like that survive on phones a couple years so even?

how about using one instead? then you will really know..

I already have an S4 so its not a significant upgrade.

Maybe not but until you have a play with one you won't know the huge differences.

I wasn't interested enough to upgrade to that and leave my note 3 either. That said I will be sticking with the note line from now on most likely. It's hard to go smaller now.

Android is not Windows. Unused Ram is wasted Ram.

Sane here. In fact, when I hold my wife's S4 I keep thinking its the mini lol

Know what you mean, holding my mom's iPhone 5 makes it like the old Nokia phone I had when I was a kid ha

That's actually a fallacy.

If you are constantly using up most if the devices memory you will experience more killing of background apps / services and face reloading.

There is a sweet spot in regards to enough memory, the GS4 Touchwiz sailed perilously close to the wind and often stumbled because of it.

The Note 3 whilst running pretty much the same OS used routinely the same amount of memory as the GS4 however with the benefit of extra ram it rarely if ever stumbled.

The extra ram did indeed give the Note 3 a tangible advantage and positively effected consumer / end user experience.

Whilst I have no doubt the GS5 is a very fast phone, it still concerns me that it's memory usage is still so high (when no active applications are running) like the GS4, and unlike the Note 3 it may not have the extra wiggle room memory wise once a user begins opening a lot of apps.

From my end user experience I found myself having to manage / check memory usage on my GS4, an unpleasant experience and something the Note 3 thankfully did away with due to having that extra 1gb.

With the GS5 I personally would be concerned that it once again makes you feel like you have to micro manage it and try and kill off / disable features and services to improve memory usage situation.

Whilst others may not share my concern, it is a legitimate one based on my user experience of owning and using both of Samsung's flagship devices for a number of months...
