The Galaxy S5

Technically, units shipped are considered whether it's to retailers or directly to consumers because those retailers have to pay for those units and try to resell them to consumers. The question is how many of those units get into consumers hands or sit on the shelves or back room gathering dust. We all know when a new iPhone is launched, most if not all iPhones get into consumers hands because shipment time gets pushed back further and further and doesn't catch up until about a month later. Retailers run out of stock within the first day or two.

Here's a good read which explains the difference between shipped units and sold (to consumers) units.

nobody cares about sales and both Samsung and Apple are liars, and please enjoy the samsung components in your apple products. We all know everyone wants an iPad/Mac with a samsung panel.

What this has to do with a Galaxy s5 thread ???
What apple products have to do with this thread ?

The matter was a different one: Samsung has been caught lying at investors and customers about its sales. This is a fact, proved by a Court.
For that reason I can't trust their sales data in any way, and I'm waiting for third party analysis about initial sales for S5 (that is the topic's argument).
For what I'm seeing, initial reviews aren't so enthusiastic about this products for several reasons.

I almost don't see the Galaxy line a Samsung's premium line anymore. I really think the Note series it.....

The Galaxy Note line is in a category (phablet) of it's own. If or when Apple launches a 5.5 inch iPhone, I don't think Apple will call it just an iPhone any longer. Then and only then, should we compare the Galaxy Note line to an Apple product.

That is a great point.......I never thought of Apple not calling a say 5.5 iPhone anything other than an iPhone. But I wasn't comparing anything to an Apple product. I was just saying to seems to me that as far as Samsung phones go.....the Note lines seems to be more premium than the Galaxy line.....thats all.....But then how to compare the 4 inch iPhone to the Galaxy line that runs just a tad over 5 inches? I am not sure you can just compare phones based on size for sales data......Will the larger 5.5 iPhone have a stylus too?

What's your reasoning behind this? I don't think the Note series is so different that it needs to be put in an incomparable category. Sure it's a lot bigger and can be used in many ways no iPhone can, but then again I now use my Note 2 for everything I used to do with my iPhone, and I bring it along all the time in my pocket.

If it makes calls, the 5.5 inch iPhone will be called an iPhone. Maybe iPhone Pro.

Sorry, I should've been more clear. I think the size of the Galaxy Note line may have created it's own niche market which isn't as large as the Galaxy S line. I don't think Samsung would downgrade their best selling S line phones from flagship status just because the Note line exists. I think they are in separate categories. We all know Samsung created the S line to compete with the iPhone. Samsung created the Note line to jump into a part of the market Apple hasn't a device in...yet. Samsung may have already cornered that market with the S-pen. Apple will have to come up with something revolutionary in that size device.

Thanks sumsingwong.....i agree with you.......and knowing Apple they will come up with something great!

Which is why I stated Apple will probably not "just" call it an iPhone.

I've been watching some videos of the S5 and I noticed it takes a second or two to wake after pressing the home button. Are you guys experiencing this? Seems slower than the S4.

I have not experienced that at all.....just the opposite. The S5 is faster phone that the S4 was......TW is much more toned down.....

Ah, ok I see what you mean :)

Yeah, they are in different categories. But still though, I think in one way the Note series are taking over as the true flagships, even if Samsung didn't intend for that to happen - just because they always come out with the more powerful hardware.

Also the paradigm is shifting towards ever larger screens...actually I'd love to see the sales figures for S4 vs Note 3 compared to S5 vs Note 4, in about a year - to see if more people are shifting over to the "phablet" category. Then again the S5 has a bigger screen than the S4 did, and maybe the Note 4 will be so big that it becomes even more niche... (I'm personally hoping for 6" :D)

Anyhow, yes it will be very interesting to see what Apple does with the 5.5" category. I'm thinking that the emphasis may lie on smart interaction with the iWatch (so you don't have to get it out of your pocket as often) and UI adaptivity to make one handed use easier. Noone has really explored the latter seriously, so that one is quite ripe for the picking for Apple. Meanwhile I don't see how they could aim to make it a true productivity device, given that they're probably too stubborn to adapt swipe typing and too proud to implement a stylus.

It has just as much to do with the GS 5 as all that BS about sales and Sumsung's lies. Pot meet kettle.

Facts, not BS, facts ... certified by a Court.
Someone spoke about great sales, and the source is a known liar. So it's better to have third party confirmation.

Good lord I meant BS as irrelevant. I was not arguing the validity of anything you are claiming.

I couldn't care less about any of that garbage. It does not factor into my choice of what smartphone to buy and has nothing to with the gs5

Careful when feeding the troll....the more you reply the more it feeds him....best to ignore from now on. He has shown his true colors.....

LOL.......so what on earth does that have to do with shipped versus sold? See what I mean about your bias?
This is what you said:

Then you went on to show your anti Samsung bias. The discussion was shipped versus sales.....don't know why you want to bring in anything else......
See here comes the anti Samsung bias again.......the iphone sales also include the 4 and 4s and 5 and 5s and 5c

So go troll somewhere else....

Hi jamezr,
Which one is a better phone at this point of the time. Note 4 is going to be better speced than S5. But according to Anandtech, S5 is the best on in Samsung line. It is like they are going one up in each iteration in terms of specs.

The specs might be a little better on the S5 but they are really close....here is a side by side of the two phones spec wise. We don't know what the Note 4 will have but I am sure it will have better specs than the S5 when it is released....and it always has the stylus...

The camera is really good.

You can always expect a great camera on the Galaxy S line. I still love the camera on my S3 and this one looks like a great update.

I guess no one is using the 4K video recording? It's not much better than 1080P?

The camera is really good but the Z2 is better. I have not tried the 4K video....it seems to take up too much space........I heard 2 minutes was over 500MB

The camera on my S4 is good but I hate the stuttering of the video when I'm panning that's caused by the software stabilization. Did Samsung fix this on the S5?

This is with 2 hours screen time. Was on Zedge a lot today looking for wallpapers and ringtones....
