I went back to look at the S5 again, this time at the Verizon store, and I noticed that on Verizon it doesn't come with the Internet app installed. It only has Chrome. The AT&T version has it. It seems strange that Verizon would remove the Internet app since it has a really nice UI.

Does the s5 have ART?

Thanks for all the feedback jamezr

David pierce (the verge) needs to stick to reviewing ios products IMO. Bias just oozes from that guy

At least they finally acknowledge android as an ecosystem is not really a negative anymore

David is the most annoying reviewer I've ever heard. I know exactly what he is going to say before I even click play.

I looked at the S5 today-a colleague had bought one and let me play with it. To me its a nice device but I prefer the M8. I have nothing but good things to say about the S5 and Touchwiz seems to be much approved. I noticed it felt speedier than past iterations of Touchwiz. Overall I still think the M8 feels snappier, and I prefer Sense over Touchwiz still.

I will agree that the camera is superior on the S5, the clarity of the shots and color reproduction is noticeably better than my M8. I think whether you get the M8 or S5 really comes down to whether the camera is super important to you, or if you want to sacrifice the camera quality for a nicer UI (in my opinion) and a premium build quality.

Still a Samsung fan, but I'm holding onto my Note 3 for now, will probably grab the Note 4 when it comes out for sure!

I don't think David Pierce gave the Samsung Galaxy S5 a fair shake from The Verge video review. I wish Josh Topolsky can make more reviews instead of just Nexus devices. David is an Apple lover all the way. Design ia very important to that guy when most people don't use their phones like a precious jewel but a disposable and temporary gadget for the time being.

Throw your naked iPhone in the pool or ocean and its dead. Same with HTC One and LG G2. Galaxy S5 will still survive a drowning. I consider design important but I don't put it on a pedestal like David Pierce does or all the other sites like Gizmodo and BGR that constantly writes love letters to Apple with their MacBooks. Battery life and camera are just as important and David Pierce glossed over it like nothing. Then he calls the S5 uninteresting and this coming from an iPhone lover with the most boring mobile OS called iOS.

The beauty of Android goes beyond the surface. Samsung throws alot of crap on the wall. But you can always disable the apps. If you want gestures, download Swipe Home Button and link it to Screen Off & Lock. If you want Moto X's Active Display, download AcDisplay! No rooting needed. No extra steps like jailbroken iPhones.

Totally agree. Although I'm not a fan of Samsung's Touchwiz and gimmicks, the review on The Verge was half assed and he didn't even mention some key features such as USB 3.0 connectivity and charging nor did he discuss any performance and battery benchmarks.

Its only water proof up to 1m so unless it floats it won't survive a pool or ocean swim.

Meh, my $100 Moto G can survive in a sink for 30 minute without being marketed as waterproof. Not sure why you are impressed with S5s' waterproofness.

S5 is a boring phone; it's just not that exciting like S3.

I may have cancelled my S5 order (though I may end up with one sooner or later) I just don't understand the vitriol it gets on this forum (even from other Android users), I think they have definitely tried to address a lot of the criticisms of the S4.

The screen is very good indeed and so much brighter than the one on the s4. Touchwiz whilst still the marmite of android skins is much improved and very smooth and from my brief hands on seemingly free of the hiccups and stutters from the S4 which is good (and the machine I tried was loaded with user apps - not just stock ones).

Still wish they had overhauled everything including the messaging app, dialler and contacts & clock - they are still the apps that feel most dated to me, and settings menu is a nightmare to navigate even with the new round icons.

But yeah, whilst I personally couldn't justify signing a new contract for one, i do think its a nice handset, and if I got one cheap off contract I would certainly give it a go.

It may be not the big step some people expected, but when Apple can get away with just incremental changes year after year (refinements) and still sell millions of units - I see no reason to not believe the S5 won't do the same for Samsung.

Is it the best thing since sliced bread, no... But is it a decent phone, I believe so.

Picked up a GS5 today. Impressions coming soon.

Let us know you get on :)

It seems a majority of tech pundits/reviewers etc have an elitist attitude about build quality/metal bodies. A few podcasts I listen to they cant get over Samsung phones being so wildly popular

Yeah millions must like like them based on the sales. :)

Camera seems to be very nice compared to M8. Though, It is not a typical camera IQ review with 100% crops. With quick hdr mode, it can really come handy as a backup to my Canon t3i for taking landscapes during good light on the go. It seems to retain lot of detail and dynamic range.

How many days does it take price to come down? My corporate website listed it for $199. I am waiting for them to list M8 and see how much they will ask for. Is S5 for $199 better purchase than LG G2 for $99 and Note3 for $299. I think, S5 is better than Note 3 for my needs, it is $100 chepare and they seem pretty similar. Some how, our carporate website offers Note 3 on Verizon for $199. But I am trying to get with ATT for the GSM flexibility. I can switch between other unlocked gsm phones and send them to parents/relatives to my native place.

I mean how dare someone like a plastic build over metal!

And vice versa....

Personally I don't judge build quality on build materials.

The HTC one m8 may be metal, but I don't see it having a greater build quality than my 1520 which is polycarbonate, the 1520 has an amazing build quality...

The S4 & S5 may not subjectively feel as 'premium' as other phones due to their choice of materials, but it doesn't mean they have a poor build quality. Indeed some could easily make the case that the s5 being waterproof is built better than the M8 which is not.

It's all just subjective.

What a poser :)

Exactly. There is more to a phone than how it looks. We are all different. I won't deny that the M8/HTC one look stunning. However for me the removable back is something I actually want because it means I can replace the battery easily. Also it gives me the option to customise the phone by replacing the back. Or replacing the back if it gets damaged.

After using both, chose the S5 to replace my i777 S2. M8 is bulky, and camera sucks, looks ok on the phone, but if you download to desktop or upload on line looks like crap vs the S5 and others. S5 is waterproof, important since that's how my i777 just died after being careful with it for over 2 years lol. TW is polished now, using GoLauncher Prime though and custom icon pack. Battery life is awesome though I read the M8 is great there too. I have a Rearth Slim case with the rubber/matte dot finish, barely adds anything to the phone, it's nice. People will say what they want about plastic, but the S5 doesn't feel cheap and it's pretty light, besides 99% of people keep their phone in a case, almost every iPhone owner I know has a super duper 2lb bullet proof Otterbox case on it anyway so whats the point of bragging about a metal phone lol ;)

Big negative though, no root and no roms at least for a long time as AT&T locked the BL and has the new version of Knox where the old one still wasn't cracked. I can put up with no Rom as new TW is the best Sammy has done so far, but want root to get rid of bloatware etc. Praying to root goods something is exploited :D

Otherwise really impressed, phone is so fast and smooth, and USB 3 rocks... file transfers are fast, and charging is super fast, I can't believe how fast this charges from 0-100%.

And in other news, the S5 is reportedly selling in the millions while HTC plans on releasing a plastic version of the M8 that rings in $200 cheaper than its predecessor. It's nearly identical, sans the metal.

Reported by who ? Samsung ? I don't believe a single word about their sells .... They were caught lying about number of units sold (were units shipped) ...

It's safer to wait for a third party survey.

If you guys want to make your Samsung look more premium get a kommandant case for it.

I just ordered this one and will skip the gs5 and keep my s4 for another year.

Wow .... How to buy a Samsung and try to make it look like an iPhone ....

I don't care if it's plastic or metal, but let it be a good kind of plastic at least.

The Nexus 5 and Moto G are both made of plastic, but they are superior to the S5 build quality.
