What proof do you have they Disney is gouging consumers. Just because they charge a different amount is not proof.

But that's not what you said in your first post. You complained about Disney pricing their content higher then others so that means they must be greedy.
Also, you haven't explained how not selling something is corporate greed, this makes no sense.

Why are you frustrated then? if (I assume you meant Disney not Apple) Disney doesn't sell content and you're refusing to buy it anyways.

1. Unfortunately I don’t have access to their corporate records regarding expenditure and profit margins. But I do possess common sense. Do you really believe it costs Disney more money that Warner Brothers, universal etc... to make a 4K movie available on iTunes?

2. Disney are greedy. The whole world (except you it seems) accept this. (Joke) we don’t know how much Disney want more than all of the other studios because that information has not been revealed. But the fact that they want more leads to the obvious conclusion of excessive corporate greed.

3. I’m frustrated with you actually. I never imagined a staff member would enjoy arguing with a member. Do you have stock in Disney or something?

Why would you not suppost 4K Disney content on iTunes for a comparable price to the 4K content from every oter studio?

I’m not trying to take you guns here, they only people that should take exception to my comments are Disney employees and stockholders.

Even then I would take exception. I think Disney will make more money by playing ball with iTunes in the long run.

Just to way in on this tit for tat, I agree with the original post that it would be nice to be able to buy Disney content on iTunes in 4K. It’s frustrating as a potential customer that Disney couldn’t get onboard with this like the rest of the studios. Hopefully this will change before the year is out.

OMG!

Someone gets it. Praise the Lord!

I never came here looking for an argument. Wow, what a strange place to hang out. I was beginning to think I had entered the twilight zone or something...

I don't disagree, but that's not what the OP stated, he was complaining about the pricing. I had no idea until he replied that Disney's content is not available in his location

I was talking about Disney 4K content not being available on iTunes. That is not a region specific issue.

Some people just like to argue I’m trying to build an all digital library, but sticking to 4K purchases as for me I find the PQ as good or better than my blu-ray’s (I know this is a very emotive subject)

My worry buying anything in HD from Disney is that when they do get onboard they may release a separate 4K edition of the movie to get around the “free” upgrades.

Those are my fears too. I could buy a Disney movie on iTunes and find I need to rebuy them in 4K at some later point.

As a consumer I just want to be treated fairly, as you clearly do as well.

I want to own all of my digital content in one place and i want to pay a reasonable price.

Can I ask, what size 4K TV do you have and want speed broadband do you have?

It’s a 55” LG OLED C7 and I get around 70Mbps on my fibre broadband, so no probs with 4K streams.

Interesting.

How much visual detail do you think is lost on the stream vs disc?
My TV is only 49” and I sit about 6’ from the screen.
I haven’t compared the two myself, (stream/disc) but I didn’t think I would notice much of a difference myself.

The comparison videos I have watched online basically said that unless the set is over 100” or the viewer is sitting 2’ from the screen the adverage viewer shouldn’t notice a difference between e two.

I sit about 8 feet away. This TV makes everything look amazing anyway, but I was all in on the Apple TV after buying a few 4K movies. I bought Prometheus (which I already had on blu-ray) out of curiosity to compare, and it was (again, to my tired old eyes) a far sharper image and of course the HDR goes a long way to giving that wow factor. To me it just seemed to be that next step up in PQ from the old blu’s - so I sold the lot!

I have no doubt UHD discs will be better, but these days I wouldn’t pay £25 for a movie and I prefer the convenience of streaming (two young kids in the house)

So, get with the programme Disney!!!!!

I wouldn’t mind paying. A little extra for a 4K Disney movie on iTunes.
Frankly, I was amazed when it was announced that all future 4K movies would be £13.99 on iTunes, the same price as a HD movie on the store.

But for Disney to exclude all 4K movies on iTunes really gets my back up. And like you said, I wouldn’t put it past them to expect consumers to double dip and buy the same HD movies they have already purchased on iTunes again to get the 4K versions.

I suppose if Apple compromise to Disney that would blow their deal with all the other studios. Mexican stand off!

And having recently returned from a visit to Disneyland Paris, I can attest that yes, they are greedy. 5 star prices for a 3 star hotel, and that’s just the accommodation...

How much did they charge you for a softdrink? 5, 6 times over the standard asking price? :)

Probably more! I remember a bottle of water been around 4 Euro. Bargain!

So, think Last Jedi will be a rental until a 4K version makes an appearance. I’m probably in the minority (if you believe what you read on the internet) that actually enjoyed it, but that’s because I can switch to my inner 7 year old when watching these movies.

I really enjoyed The Last Jedi too.
I think the whining on the Internet is a few hundred people shouting very loudly.

I found The Last Jedi to be the best Star Wars movie since Return of the Jedi. I loved it. It’s not perfect, nothing is, but I found it incredibly freshing.

I remember going in beforehand praying that Ray wouldn’t be a Skywalker or a Kenobi. After The Force Awakens I wanted something new and fresh. I wanted to be stretched.

I’ve been a huge Star Wars fan since 1997.

Ha, now you’re making me feel old. I’ve been a fan since I was 4 - in 1984

I saw the special editions in the cinema.
Been reading the novels ever since.

Should be careful how much personal info I give away on here lest our corporate overlords and masters at Disney track me down for spreading dissent about the “most magical company” in the world!!

And we should be careful about praising their films incase they raise the prices.

Interesting read guys but it's starting to sound as though you've all gone a bit bonkers.

Coming from a lifetime career in media, I can tell you that 4K BluRay outside of the USA is not going to be around for long - 2 years? Just look at the plastic, no thought for design/components machines launched this year by LG, SONY & Panasonic. It's incredibly obvious that they have ZERO interest in it. Look at the DV implementation on it. Look who was the FIRST of the companies to address SONY DV issue on their TVs - Apple with their ATV 4K - they seem to be putting more hard work into the Apple TV 4K than all of these 'old boys' manufacturers combined.

Yes it's a shame that Disney are repulsive but that's what businesses are. They are not your friend. They want your money and they know that the mainstream will buy into it, just like the rubbish that McDonalds sell as food and Samsung make in electronics. The mainstream want it & so you have it.

BUT from articles like this one below, even Hollywood is uninterested in 4K BluRay. And i'm not surprised, we were using damn discs in the 1980s and 90s. Times change and we as educated humans move on!

I’d just like to say I get it too and really don’t understand the confusion over the opening post at all.
If anyone’s got an TV4K and has followed from the original announcement will know exactly what the OP was referring to surrounding Disney’s non 4K committal, the fact this has been posted in the Apple TV forum of MacRumors seems even more bizarre as it was discussed as soon a it was noticed Disney was omitted from the lineup. Oh well each to their own I suppose.

Hopefully sometime soon somehow between these global juggernauts they will see sense and think of the consumer in all this.
Obviously we may never know the actual facts as to why it hasn’t happed as of yet but if it is all down to the cost of selling 4K at a loss then it just seems bonkers to be willing to not sell any at all as a loss versus nothing just makes no sense.

This. I haven’t even had it that long and I’m up to 60+ movies that I’ve taken a punt on due to them been under a tenner. Although I blame the Cheap charts app for that!

Point blank: Because no one else is Disney.

No other studio has the clout Disney has. They resell the same movies every 7 years for full price and people still buy them. Who else can do that? Disney fiercely protect their brand. And will not give it away for anything less than what they know it is worth.
