It’s very possible that Disney would no longer sell movies on iTunes after
[doublepost=1522940423][/doublepost]
Apple is not responsible for game developers pulling games or movie company pulling movies. That is 100% the fault of the company you foolishly purchased something from. Disney would face a huge backlash if they pulled all of their stuff off of other digital platforms even after somebody bought it. Remember all you have is a license to use it not an actual item. There’s a huge difference.

You sound like an corporate apologist.

Why exactly was I foolish for puchasing a game on the app store legally?
Why not attack the company (Funcom) instead?
I could have pirated the game. But instead I gave money to those that publisher and apple. Funcom won’t even respond to my emails.

You are not making any sense.
The law or terms and conditions need to be changed to protect honest consumers from corporate greed.
A license is worthless if corporations can pull their content whenever it suits them and then people like you defend those actions.

Must suck to live in the UK. Every physical copy of a movie in the US. comes with a digital copy including Disney movies. 3D tech never caught on in the US for home viewing and the theatres usually throw it on a smaller screen theater. Rather have a 4K version then a 3D one.

We constantly get screwed when it comes to our entertainment.
But, atleast we don’t have to worry about mass gun killings and money grabing healthcare professionals.
Swings and round abouts.

My own recent experience with apple has been very worrying.

As i said above, I recently lost a game because the publisher pulled it. Why didn’t apple protect me then?
If apple can’t stop and indie film from being pulled as paul said, or my little game disappearing suddenly, why I should I exepct them to protect me from Disney’s greed?

Massive difference between Films & Games, with games you’ve got other things to contend with like iOS firmware and hardware upgrades which the developer must continue to support to keep it working across different firmware’s and screen sizes which depending on sales they may chose to cut their losses and either just pull the game completely or just not bother supporting it any longer which will eventually be incompatible with future iOS releases.
I’ve had one game disappear myself which was Star Wars Millennium Falcon Gunner on iPhone 3GS which just stopped being updated thus became incompatible then dropped from the store all together.
Films and TV for the most part once pulled from the store have so far still been available to watch via your library.
I have a TV Series that was pulled which is Constantine TV series, still plays ok but just doesn’t work with the TV App up next function.

Don't forget buddy, that if you download the film from Disney, you can put it on your iPhone/iPad and Airplay it to your Apple TV at anytime with no quality loss OR you can download the film to your computer and use Apple HomeSharing to your Apple TV.
So please don't worry :)

I would LOVE someone from Apple to actually talk about the state of streaming/downloading etc and the deals that they have in place with these companies. Certainly if a company takes back their film, it's STEALING as the Apple TV is marketed 100% as a iCloud Streamer along with the TV App. The goes against European Union Law.

It's serious as these companies get upset when people torrent / pirate films but in essence, they are doing the same.

As I said before though, I have tons more faith in Apple than say LG, Samsung, Amazon, Google who merely exist to make profit and nothing else.

Then don’t buy anything digitally since it’s a license that can be revoked. That’s the only way you can actually do something about it. Don’t blame Apple for another companies actions. Maybe you should have downloaded an actually copy to your system. No company can take something of off your hard drive. If I was yo, I would stick to physical items.

You bought a license, you didn’t actually buy a physical item. Sue Funcom if they still exist it’s them who own the actual, item not you and not Apple. Download the actual item to your own system so that way when they pull their license back, you still have a legitimate copy of it. Don’t blame Apple for your inability to actually download a copy believeimg with extreme naivety that it will be maintained for all time. Or better yet only buy items with a physical form and stay away from digital.

Cant comment about the living conditions of the UK, but the bit about the Digital Copy only applies to Disney.

Disney's UK 3D releases do not come with Digital Copies. However, other studios do include the Digital Copy. For instance, the Justice League 3D UK release comes with it.

So it's really only a Disney thing.

On a HUGE POSITIVE note Citizen Cook, unlike buying a DVD or BluRay, iTunes updates its files. Yes of course we know about HD film getting updated to 4K DV etc BUT iTunes Extras along with remastered files occur many times over!

My ALL TIME favourite film from the 1980s has just had iTunes Extras added to it this evening and I can tell you that i'm delighted as there is 5 documentaries added to it that i've never had the pleasure of seeing before, they are all in HD, look fantastic and the film is sparkling even more!
I'm truly delighted with it as I love maybe 5 films and that's it and this one is my all time favourite as I grew up with it as a child whilst living in France!

As an example, this film was never released on BluRay on the European market by Paramount. Only Region A for the USA. All we had was a crappy speeded up by 4% DVD or VHS tape!

I recently found out that a game that I bought on the app store (The Longest Journey Remastered) was pulled bu the content owners.

I have lost game and my money.
The Longest Journey was removed from the store, but it should still be in your library (it is in mine). The problem is that the developer never updated it to 64 bit. Since iOS 11 no longer supports 32-bit apps, you need an old iOS version to play it.

So I bought the 4K TV and I bought the excellent 4K apple TV.
I then went to prepurchase The Last Jedi on iTunes last week.

Imagine my shock and then disgust to learn that Disney are refusing to play ball like all of the other studios and sell their 4K content digitally for a reasonable price.

In the UK a DVD typically sells for around £10, a blu ray for £15, and a UHD for £25.
As far as I can see this is a scam.

Does the cost of pressing a UHD disc cost £15 more than a DVD?
Wait. Why are you feigning surprise and disgust when you started another thread asking about Disney - like six months ago - showing full knowledge that Disney wasn't upgrading their movies to 4K in iTunes?
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/disney.2068710/
I didn't go searching for this. I just noticed it linked in the "Similar Threads" list at the bottom of this page.

Some of the arguments you've made make for valid discussion, but it seems more-so like you're just having fun reveling in consumer dissatisfaction and outrage. How flipping boring.

I have the game downloaded on my ipad but it is unplayable. Is it not strange that I can’t continue to play it?

What about films that have some itunes extras. When those movies get updated with the new extras do you keep the old ones as well or are they simply replaced?

I have some old 007 movies on DVD. There are a series of excellent documentaries narrated by Patrick Mcnee.
I’m not sure if they are available on the iTunes versions (i hope so!) but if they are, when i buy those films i would hate to lose them.

One other question: would you recommend buying a movie now even if it doesn't have a 4K file or iTunes extras, confidant in an inevitable upgrade or should I simply wait for the updated release to be safe?

As I said in the post you quoted it’s unplayable because the developer has failed to update it and make it compatible with later iOS updates.
Contact the developer and see what they have to say.

A lot has happened in 6 months. I don’t know about you, but i live a very busy life.
If i had posted that 6 days ago you might have a point, but sadly there is not conspiracy here, just a forgetful mind.
I honestly don’t remember the post.

But if you would like to think the worst of me, go right ahead, I won’t hold it against you. You have no reason to believe me, the Internet is full of undesirable characters hiding behind keyboards. But I assume you, my intentions are totally honourable.

Good movies are good movies regardless of pixels and extras, if you want it get it I say.
What’s possibly added later is a welcome bonus.

Well i already own them on blu ray you see. And they already have extras that the itunes versions don’t.
I want digital versions for the 4K upgrade and convenience.

I say 'buy them man' :) At the end of the day, they are £8 or £10 - the price of a taxi ride or a quick meal on a trip. I've just wasted more than that this evening on taxi rides so live and let live :)

PLUS, you can then compare the iTunes & BluRay disc and see which one you prefer in pic quality & then try PCM sound output on the ATV compared to the BluRay.

You may be super pleasantly surprised :) It'll be the latest file whereas your blurry will always stay as is!
An example MEET JOE BLACK - I have the BluRay from 2009 and a iTunes HD from 2012. The iTunes HD is a million miles better - the blurry colour is way off - the people's faces are the colour of Donald Trump's orange whereas the iTunes is perfect in its colour balance.

I guess that they'll all get updates to the latest super version of iTunes Extras. Grease 40th Anniversary is out in 4K at the end of April. I own a iTunes HD of it - last week the cover changed to the new 40th Anniversary 4K one so let's see if I get bumped up to the 40th Anniversary at the end of April. I shall report back.

Yes, I buy iTunes HD film - I don't like BluRay/DVD YUCK etc - i'm Apple Ecosystem since 1995. For me, it's stress free & a beautiful experience. I see the cheap 4K BluRay players from LG Samsung SONY and i'm repulsed by them - cheap, no design, no thought, awful user interfaces etc - I won't be a part of that corporate greed.

Here in the UK, a lo of new film goes straight to iTunes/Amazon so disc is not an option.

I appreciate your concerns & interest over this subject, so please feel free to ask questions.
IMO, iTunes is a stable, safe way to buy film. I trust them as a company. 4K BluRay? I feel will be dead in 2 years time. The manufacturers & Hollywood have ZERO interest in it.
Crazy thing is, all radio stations in the UK gave up on physical media in 1996 at the absolute latest! It's been computer hard drive since 1992!!!

I can’t buy from them because they refuse to sell 4K content on iTunes.

You might be missing some important context. Disney is starting their own streaming service so that nobody else is making money off of their content. Disney's contract with Netflix is ending for the same reason. Over time I expect other contracts to end too, and so eventually their content (outside of their future service) will greatly diminish.

This doesn't seem inherently unusual to me. You also don't see Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix original content on iTunes for the same reason. Some studios like Sony or HBO will put content on iTunes, but only after a delay. And I doubt you're going to see Apple original content on Disney's service.

So Disney isn't some weird outlier in this situation.

Excuse me for interrupting the discussion with a rather basis question, but I’m about to purchase my first Apple TV along with a 4K UDH TV set. If I want to see Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars movies in the highest resolution, is my best option to use the VUDU.com site to purchase these films in UHD? And would I then use their app running directly on my TV to stream them, thereby skipping Apple TV altogether?

Thanks.

Of course, but that isn’t my point.

My point is I can’t buy dsiney content on itunes in 4K because of their greed.
My disc based comments are ancillary.
[doublepost=1522507895][/doublepost]

Why are you confused?

I’m confused that you’re confused.

Several times I have clearly stated that 4K dsiney content is not available on iTunes.
This was in my orignal post.

Im upset that I cant buy sourdough bread on Apple TV because Apple TV does not sell bread.

Very confusing thread. I think Ill leave now.

My gut feeling now is IF Apple and Disney make a deal on 4K movies this year Apple will hold it off for their next big press conference. Maybe September with the new iPhones?

Being honest, I'm hoping more that in September they agree on Dolby Atmos or a better quality of HD audio for iTunes Movies rather than the old DD5.1 - it's very hard to find DD+7.1 film on iTunes.

I'm finding the whole streaming / disc / movies world fascinating - there seems to be no future road map clues. What i'm observing in the UK in 2018 is new film simply not going onto Region B BluRay - only DVD YUK! iTunes 4K is great picture wise but lacking in the immersive audio experience. Maybe Apple aren't too bothered. Maybe Apple plan on releasing a Apple Music like video 'FILM' service.

Sorry to bump a fairly old thread but seems Disney’s takeover of 20th Century Fox is happening March 20th.
Wondering what this could mean for us AppleTV users, will Disney keep things separate for the forceable thus no impact on the current and due to be released/upgraded Fox 4K content, or will we suddenly see a chunk of our libraries revert to HD? Or will they agree that what’s currently 4K stays 4K?
Hopefully Apple will come to an agreement with Disney sometime soon.

Just in case, you ought to download your Fox 4K titles now. Once you've downloaded them, they can't take them away from you (I think).
