I just have to say that my new 3G s is SMOOOOOOTH. I went from a first gen iphone to this new one.

It feels better in my hand. It's contoured better on the back.

Everything is fast.

I think that anyone with a first gen phone shouldn't hesitate to upgrade now.

For those of you with a 3g from last year, go to the apple store or where ever you can try one of these and see what you think. I would imagine that after you see how much faster it is plus the extra features that you only find on the 3GS you would want to upgrade as well, especially if you can get it partially subsidized.

Wow

Went into town this morning, to get an iphone 3gs. Now, 4 hours later i am lost for words.

This is my first IPhone, though a few of my friends have them. I have always wanted one but the price was too high. I nearly got one a few weeks back when i made an error in upgrading the software on my other phone (LG Renoir). Unfortunately i fixed it .

But today i took the plunge.

All i can say is that it is amazing. It's so fast, apps load really quickly compared to my Ipod and the voice control is awesome.
Originally wanted the 16GB but they were out of stock so had to fork out an extra £100 for a 32 GB. It was well worth it though :D

So far, it's very awesome. I am a little concerned about the battery draining so far, but I'm willing to wait to see if it improves.

Its all been said previous on this thread...so i'll keep it short.

An excellent & amazing phone. I upgraded from 2G iPhone 1st Gen, so its a big leap in the right direction. Surfing when out and about is seamless and lightning quick, camera is far superior, phone feels alot better in hand, app launching is sooo fast, sending/recieveing emails on the go is just like texting now, no more Inbox (50) waiting for me at home, I can keep on top of them when out!

A truly spectacular handset, well worth an upgrade.

I'm keeping an eye on my battery, at 46% after a day with push email always on, about an hour of solid 3G browsing, WIFI always on, 1 phone call (3 mins long), 6 SMS sent, 5 SMS recieved, a few apps launched aswell for short spaces of time, camera used twice for pics. So 46% still left isnt bad really :D

If anyone has any questions I'd be happy to answer them ... seems everyone on here is more clued up than me though :p I've learnt so much about my new hanset from you guys so cheers

I got mine. Went from 16gb edge iPhone to 16gb black 3GS. I'm treating it like a new phone as well and thus far it is great. 3G to edge is no comparison and the extra ram seems to make apps a lot more stable. The increased speed is nice not to mention I'm going from OS 2.1 to 3.0 which has improved a lot of the apps.
I still like the feel of my original but I'm happy with the upgrade. Well worth it.

How is the AT&T Network?

I am a future iPhone 3gs owner. First iphone.

EVERYONE keeps telling me the same thing, iphone is great AT&T is beyond awful -- so bad that the iPhone barely trumps how bad the AT&T network is?

Beginning to get worried I should have stuck with a better carrier for a lessor phone.

that all depends

It really depends on where you live, for me edge at home was nonexsitant, 3G full serivce. by the way I am on long ilsand new york:D

Can all you new owners please confirm these two observations because these are two issues that irritate the hell out of me with my 3G iPhone: is the silent switch still too easily accidentally set to silent when you pull it out of a holster (which has made me miss many calls and texts); and is the audio and speaker finally really louder than the 2G (never really fixed in the 3G)?

i hated the speaker volume on my 2g, skipped the 3g model. now have the 3GS and it's awesome! The speaker clarity, and volume is MUCH better!!!

Agree! And also reference the 'silent' switch, I've never accidently turned it on / off. And i use a holster daily.

+1 on a confirmation that speaker volume is much louder on the 3Gs. Also coming from a 2G owner. Comparing the two, it seems like the volume on the 3Gs is at least three times louder than the 2G.

Also, the vibrate switch is a lot stiffer and the vibration is a lot stronger. I usually placed my 2G on a few sheets of paper on work so its not in my pocket and the vibration isn't heard all around. My 3Gs vibrated and that same padding I used for my 2G is now ineffective...

I felt that way when I got my first iPhone (1st generation). It's now been around two years and they have vastly improved over that first try. I can't remember my last dropped call. Their customer service is FAR better than Verizion. You will be fine now. You may not even notice any changes in service. But one thing for sure, You will LOVE your iPhone.

3GS is how the iPhone should have been from the beginning. With both previous models the loading lag, dropped calls, and overall slowness had me ready to toss them both out the window on multiple occasions.

3GS FTW!

Incredible phone went from crappy T-Mobile service and a G1 to AT&T and the 3GS best phone and service ever IMHO. :D

Received my iphone 3gs on monday (though i ordered on June 10th and was expecting it on launch) and i couldnt be happier. I love the speed, i have yet to have an app crash, Beejive with push works well. Compass is actually very usegful when paired with google maps. Battery life is amazing as far as im concerned. Camera Quality is amazing.

Is it just me, or is call quality better?

I love my 3GS. Went from T-mobile and having little to no service at home, to always having a signal here. Haven't had a dropped call yet. Had the 2G, so the upgrade in speed is great. Love the video feature. So far, very happy with it.

Go mine on Sunday from Carphone Warehouse. No queueing (that's so 2 years ago). It's my first iphone and I'm blown away with it. I can't leave it alone. Audio quality is high using a pair of bose on-ear headphones but, in my opinion, not quite as sweet as my ipod classic. The audio output is louder than the classic, I don't need to use the boosteroo anymore, even for lower level audio tracks.

It is much faster than any other iPhone. The chrome letters on the back are a nice, minor change. The oleophobic screen seems easier to type on, as some have noted, it's smoother, and it does a good job at preventing fingerprints. My screen is actually noticeably cooler (bluer) than the screen on my iPhone 3G. I preferred the warmer screen, so I'm not a big fan of that. My iPhone 3GS shipped from China, which is known to be where most of the "cool" (bluish) displays are from. Overall, some things look better on the iPhone 3G's screen, somethings look better on the iPhone 3GS's screen. It's a very nice upgrade, as long as the oleophobic coating is as scratch resistant as the first two iPhones.

simply..AMAZING!

I forgot to post my first impression (sorry guyss..lol)

Received it on launch day and I must AGREE that this phone def* has impeccable speed compared to the 1st and 2nd generation iPhone...

I absolutely LOVE.. LOVE...... LOVEEEEEEE my babyy and wouldn't trade it in for anything else:D:D:D

Soo did any of you guys get it from bing.com, and get the %35 cash back???I want to buy my iphone through bing.com so I can get some $$$ back but I just wanna make sure if it works,so did anyone do this??

Well... Today I decided to do it - got two iPhone 3GS (32 GB) white. One is for myself and one is for my wife (her birthday - and is she happy). LOL I am very impressed with the new 3GS especially the speed of everything. Much better than the original iPhone IMHO. I got the last two of the remaining four that the Apple Store had left. Good timing...

I ported my number over to AT&T and got the iPhone 3GS as well! Also had the G1. Although I miss having the unlimited calling plan for $50 on T-Mobile, I am in love with my iPhone :) Cheers to a new adventure with AT&T and the iPhone!
