i know it will vary by location, but can anyone comment on how many phones your AT&T store had available for the non-pre order folks, e.g. the line waiters?

Got mine, it is fast as crap. Too bad I can't restore all my stuff on it. I am at work and my home laptop needs internet to authorize it...

I didn't ask how many they had, but when I was there (from 7am to 7:20am) there were only 2 people waiting that hadn't pre-ordered. Not a big crowd at all. I'm in Michigan, btw.

Thanks for the video, Matt. I am guessing outdoor with better lighting will give you better videos than indoor, looks very blurry to me. Wasn't expecting much but I am sure the jailbreak video recording apps will improve upon Apples design.

Its pretty good, i was moving it around so it was trying to focus alot, if your videoing something further away its better too.

Got my wife to upgrade on her contract, she got the 16gb black, almost went for 32gb but 16gb should easily be enough for what I use.

She brought it home and I've put my 3G Sim card in and sync/activated it no problems, chose to restore my 3G backup so everything that was on my 3G is now on my new 3G S model :)

Certainly very fast, not had chance to play with the 3G S specific enhancements like voice, video yet but I've had OS 3.0 on my 3G model for over a week so already know how good the rest of it is.

The stores were pretty quiet here in the UK, they've sold quite a few but there are plenty of iPhones in most of the stores, not really a goldrush going on as some expected.

Just tried starting up Peggle on both my 3GS and hubby's 3G. Mine was ready a good 10-15 seconds before his. Definitely MUCH faster.

In and done by 6:58 am. The lines here in Dallas weren't that bad... until i came out of the store. I expected 500 or so before but i showed up at around 4:30 and found myself at about 35th position. I expected to be further back for sure. The line was at about 120-170 when i went into the store at 6:10 and then I had to wait in the store for about 25 min. When I came out, the lines were at least 300.

I got the first one at the Rivergate Tennesse AT&T store.
First impression is The rotating of the screens isn't laggy at all like on my 3G.
I can't really tell that much of a difference with the new screen coating though.
But I am syncing my apps right now so time will tell with the speed.

I pre-ordered at my Apple store last week.
Both Apple and ATT are in the same mall, but the mall had one entrance for people to go to ATT and one for people to go to Apple.
Got the the ATT entrance at 5AM, 3rd person in line. Went over the APple, nobody there, it is pitch black so I wasn't about to wait there by myself.
About 645 I go over to Apple, I'm about 20 in line. Get inside, im 15 in the pre-order line. Out in an hour.
Great experience, iPhone is awesome. Love having 4x the storage (32Gb black). Compass is great, video is great. Speed is AWESOME compared to my original EDGE iphone.
Best of luck to everyone else getting theirs.
There were probably 70 people behind me, and 30 in the non-preorder line. ATT had about 40 people when I was leaving.

Lines seemed MUCH smaller than last year (I waited for my dad's 3G). My sister ordered hers and it'll ship this afternoon. Most people did this.

the compass doesnt work while driving..or atleast it didnt for me..kept saying it couldnt calibrate cuz of interference...

wtf?

anyone else?

Anyone else finding Iphone app can't post comments on messages or send messages on the 3GS? it was sending fine on my 3.0 3g prior to getting the S

I went to AT&T to pick mine up today and I was the first one out of the store with it. There were 4 people waiting outside who hadn't pre-ordered it (I live in Delaware so there aren't many people here to begin with). One of the first things I noticed was it is much faster. I had the keyboard open in "Messages" on both phones (3GS and my old 2G) and switching from portrait to landscape keyboards is a huge improvement. I just finished syncing the 3GS with my computer that had all my 2G info saved on it so now it's time to test out some more stuff :)

It's finally Friday, July 19. Lines will start to form in Apple Stores and AT&T stores across the US in about an hour. This thread is for iPhone 3G S owners to post their first impressions, or just brag that they have an iPhone 3G S. I'll be getting my iPhone 3G S in a few days from the online Apple Store.

One thing I'm particularly interested in that seems to have never really been mentioned is how the screen compares to the iPhone 3G. I know that the difference between the screens on the iPhone 3G and the first-gen iPhone were night and day. The warmer color temperature improved color accuracy, blacks were much deeper and whites were purer, the screen was much brighter (I normally used my iPhone at full screen brightness and that didn't feel bright enough, I can use the iPhone 3G at 30% and it's bright enough), and it was just better overall. That was one of my favorite things about the iPhone 3G. From videos I've seen of them side-by-side, the iPhone 3G seems to have a better black level, but colors might be less accurate. The oleophobic screen will be interesting, too. I wonder if that will change the feel of the screen's surface as well as reducing fingerprints.
Screen differ from iPhone to iPhone. There is no iPhone 3G or iPhone 2G screen. Apple uses a lot of different screens.

I think actually my jailbreak videos were the same or better than that.

I've noticed the camera is taking pics in 800 x 600 :/

you mean the ones in flickr? It's Flickr downsizing them..
if it's the sync, there's something wrong.. try emailing them to yourself.
How are you syncing them?
