My 2010 21" iMac inches ever closer to a complete breakdown so I put an order in for its replacement:

27" iMac
• NVIDIAGeForceGTX775M 2GB GDDR5
• 3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
• 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM-2X8GB
• 3TB Fusion Drive

Says it'll deliver between Feb. 4-6 - by then I'm sure my current machine will be limping its way to the finish line.

New Late 2013 21.5" iMac!

I finally decided to get my first Mac (I've had an iPod 160GB & iPhone 4S for a little while now, but never a Mac of any kind). I opted for the 21.5" model, as the 27" model is simply unmanageable for the desk/workspace I have (the 21.5" model is still almost too big). I opted for the 3.1 GHz Processor & 16GB RAM upgrade (this was added to the higher end of the two "base" 21.5" options, so it also came with the upgraded graphics card and possibly other things as well). I've done some mild photo editing and a ton of web browsing on it so far (had it about two weeks), and this thing is AWESOME!

I didn't upgrade the hard drive, because I want to wait til higher capacity SSD drives come out in the next few years so I can get a 2-3 TB one installed to replace the stock 1TB HDD it comes with. I spoke with Apple over the phone prior to ordering and they said that this is something that can be done if I drop the computer off at an Apple store to have a certified tech do the work - however the Apple Rep said that upgrading the RAM or anything else wasn't as easy so it made sense to option those out as much as possible. I'm super new to Macs, so I just took his word for it. I made the mistake of getting the base model in my last computer (PC Laptop), and basically had a machine that was so underpowered that it was useless within a few years. Most people I've talked to mention how difficult to upgrade a Mac is after the fact, so I think it makes the most sense to pay extra up front for an optioned out one that will have a significantly longer service life than a base model.

I'm still trying to get used to OSX, but it's growing on me. The most confusing part so far is trying to figure out the file storage system for things like Music, Photos and Videos - it seems to be a little more complicated/hidden than the Windows machines I'm used to.

Just thought I would share! First post and all!

Just got my late-2013 27-inch iMac refurb.

I originally ordered a 27-inch 3.4 Ghz i5, 8gb Ram, 1TB Fusion Drive, GTX 775M but when I picked it up, the display was busted. After returning the iMac, I had to wait to reorder the computer since it was a refurb. Well, I reordered the same one and picked it up today, tested it out at the Apple Store and I quickly noticed that Apple had sent me the computer I ordered but actually upgraded the hard drive from 1TB Fusion to 3TB Fusion! It's awesome.

Did I make a good choice?

So I just ordered a Late 2012 Refurbished 27-inch 2.9 Ghz iMac. This one has the nVidia 660M and 1TB 7200rpm drive. I also bought AppleCare and a 4TB WD MyBook. I want to purchase a trackpad too since I LOVE it on my MBP, but I think I've spent too much money on something I didn't NEED. :D

I've been getting by with a 2012 13.3 MBP so hopefully this is much faster! I'll be using it for a LOT of Office, encoding movies I download for itunes, music storage, photo storage, minor editing of photos (iphot/aperture), Server app, and the occassional SimCity or Call of Duty. I was originally going for a base 21.5 inch but I figured I'd want to upgrade the Ram later and want a larger screen, and well, had a decent paycheck and tax return this year. :D
Got the Mac for $1399 from Apple and figured this wasn't a bad deal. SShould I have gone for a different/newer/smaller model?

Overkill for my needs?. I thought about selling my '08 20-incher but just didn't/coudln't bring myself to do it! I think I'm crazy.

Pulled the trigger this morning (31 January) on a 27" iMac equipped as follows:

3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM, 512GB Flash Storage, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2GB GDDR5.

To help pay for it, I just sold my 2009 27" iMac with an i7 CPU and 8GB of SDRAM.

I toyed around with getting the more expensive video circuitry but I don't play video games and my previous iMac handled with aplomb the photo processing I do, and it only had one GB of memory in the video circuitry.

I'm on the east coast of the United States. The delivery estimate states:

Available to ship: 2 - 4 business days
Delivers: Feb 6 - Feb 10 by 2-3 Business Days

I wonder where it is coming from, and whether the shipping estimates are reasonably accurate.

I am a first time Mac owner in the making!

I ordered a 27 inch iMac 3.2Ghz i5, 16gb RAM, 3TB fusion drive. I placed the order on 1/25 and fedex is saying I should get the machine on 2/5 coming from CA. Not too bad of around.

I have to say coming from years of PC building, modifying, and upgrading I am a little nervous about the reliabilty and longevity of the machine since it is not easy, if not impossible, to take apart. Becuase of this I did buy the extended apple care plan. We will see in three years if that was a waste of money or not.

I am still trying to decide between Parallels, VMWare, and VirtualBox. I have one or two Windows apps that I need (modern edition of Quicken mainly) and right now I can't live without.

I did pick up a airport time capsule for local backup as well.

What I am most interested in right now is the user setup and document storage. I want to spend some time organizing my files to be more "Mac friendly". Any suggestions?

Waiting for my new iMac...

New forum member here, with my first post.

I've been a Mac user since 2008, always on my trusted white Macbook C2D. After 6 years it's time for an upgrade:

27" iMac, 3.5 GHz I7, GTX 780M 4GB, 3 TB Fusion Drive, 8 GB RAM (to be upgraded to 32 GB)

Do you think I'll notice the difference? :D

I've always been doing quite some photo and video work with iPhoto and iMovie, but ever since I had a little daughter the stuff to be edited has grown exponentially and it just wasn't fun anymore on my old machine. As I want to give Aperture and Final Cut Pro a try and I want my machine to last hopefully 5-6 years again, I went for the maxed out model.

I sent the order out on Jan 25 and it shipped out of Ireland today Jan 31 with UPS. Estimated delivery on Feb 6. I'm almost out of patience...

Anyhow, I want to say thanks to this great forum and its members. It's been a help already a couple of times. Especially now, trying to figure out the configuration to get, the potential problems to watch with 3rd party RAM and yellow screens...

Cheers

After canceling an order in Nov of 2012 due to the month plus wait on the redisgned thinner iMac I pulled the trigger yesterday. Really excited!! :D

27-inch iMac
  • NVIDIAGeForceGTX775M 2GB GDDR5
  • 3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5
  • 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM-2X4GB
  • 3TB Fusion Drive

Upgraded to 2 day shipping so might get it as early as next Friday! :D

Now my 21.5 Mid 2011 replaces the family's 21.5 Late 2009 which goes up for sale.

Just ordered a 2013 27-inch iMac with 3.5 i7, 780m 4gb video card, 16gb ram, and 1tb fusion. Total cost $350! This is replacing under AppleCare a mid 2011 iMac that broke multiple times. Had 1gb video card, 3.4 i7, 4gb ram, and a 1tb hdd. Totally excited they even gave me a 2013 i7 processor model as a "loaner" until my new iMac arrives.

Very nice of them and you cannot beat that price. May your replacement last for a long time and serve you well.

I bit the bullet and bought a Refurbished 27-inch iMac 3.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7. It had the upgraded CPU and the 4gb video ram. 3 TB fusion drive. :)

Well after about 2 months of deciding I finally caved in and bought the iMac I always wanted.

27" with :
• NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
• 3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
• 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X4GB
• 1TB Flash Storage
• Magic Trackpad

I have a delivery estimate of Feb 13 which is tomorrow! I ordered it last week mind you. I'm so excited I cleared up the space on my desk for it already. :D

It was really hard to decide on storage but I just went for the 1 TB flash since I have the income for it and I don't want to worry about any external drives. I also ordered 16 GB of ram from OWC coming in tomorrow as well, how convenient!

Starting a new degree in design this year so decided to get a top-spec iMac 27".

Originally wanted the 16GB ram, and shopped around a lot to try and find a good deal.

In the end I ended up in the Apple Store hoping to buy there and pick-up later (turns out they don't do that anyway)... Tired of the courier issues I sometimes have with trying to catch a delivery guy.

Turns out they actually stocked the top-spec iMac in store which I didn't expect, but it had the 3TB Fusion Drive with 8GB Ram instead of 1tbfd, and 16gb ram. So I figured I could upgrade the ram later, and run with the larger drive.

Got the education discount also and a free $100 App store card, plus a pretty weird deal, the dude sold me Apple Care for $25.

All in all I was in and out of the Apple Store within 15 minutes and the dude trolleyed the iMac to my car. The place was packed and full of energy. They really have the best retail stores in the world. There's nothing else like it in terms of speed and efficiency.

I ended up with 3.5 i7, 8gb ram, 3tb Fusion Drive, 780 with 4gb vram, Apple Care and a Magic Trackpad :)

Still yet to unbox - looking forward to the weekend to set it all up :)

Just received my refurbished iMac

I'm new to the Mac world. After much thinking I finally opted for a refurbished unit with:
i7 3.5MHz, 780 graphics with 4GB, 8MB RAM, 3TB Fusion Drive, came with Mavericks preinstalled. Also ordered the Magic Trackpad and 16GB RAM from Crucial.
Received the complete package in excellent condition. Installed the new RAM before booting the first time, no problem with the memory, it registered right away.
A preliminary review can be resumed like wow!: crisp images, boot time 22 secs,
the trackpad is awesome (no regrets for buying it), my learning curve not so flat.
Regards

Awesome! Would you know the part number on the Crucial ram by any chance?

$148.96 from Amazon (got it for $135 two weeks ago).
Also ordered the kanex bluetooth keyboard with numpad (no idea why Apple doesn't have one). This one has wireless connectivity with iPhone, iPad, etc. Nice device.

I just got a refurb 27" 3.2, i5 8g, 1tb and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with the speed. I know it's pretty much a base model.

Shipping was 2 days, which was sick. I'll play around a bit but I think I might have to upgrade, if I'm feeling the lag now can't imagine ina. Few years.

Indexing is all done, so I'll see how it goes.

Thank you! Could you run a system report and see if your info looks like mine? I'm concerned that I may not be running in "matched pairs'?

I bit the bullet and bought a Refurbished 27-inch iMac 3.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7. It had the upgraded CPU and the 4gb video ram. 3 TB fusion drive. :)

I bought the identical computer. It screams. Of course I was coming off of a 24" 2009 dual core. :)

Just got it...

Got my new iMac 27" a couple of days ago. 3.2 Ghz i5, 3 TB fusion drive, 32 gb Ram (I ordered it with 8 gb from Apple and put in Crucial 32 gb as soon as I got it) - it flies!

It's a replacement for my mid 2011 model - and it's better, especially for video editing and live internet training which I do quite a bit of.

Excellent bit of kit all round :)

Terence

Surprise! Refurb iMac came with 4GB 780M graphics!

Ordered a refurbished 27" iMac i7 3.5GHz with 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, and 2GB 775M graphics from the Apple Store to replace my 2009 iMac i7 2.8GHz. I really wanted the 4GB Graphics in the new iMac, but in the refurb department, you gotta take what you can get.

After getting the iMac and checking Apple System Profiler, I discovered my new iMac has the 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M graphics! This configuration would have been over $500 more had I placed a CTO from Apple. I'm a happy man! :D

First iMac

My first iMac is due to arrive between the 16th and 16th of March.
27-Inch
3.5GHz Quad-core i7
16GB RAM
256GB Flash Storage
NVIDIA GeForce 2GB

After years of dealing with Windows I moved to Apple with my Macbook Air last November. While I'm currently taking a lot of stick, as I use to give my friends with Apple products a lot of hate. But my life has been a lot let stressful when working now days.
