So installed it yesterday and it's amazing! Deadly quiet and the temperatures are really low! Very fast and the screen is beautiful.

So far so good, but coming from a chunky mouse and keyboard will take time to get used to!

WiFi performance is brilliant too, maxing out my Virginmedia 120mbit easily.

BTW it came with Mavericks 10.9.0 installed and got all the free Pages etc

OK, I need a big glass of whisky to forget what I just did :D
Just ordered a BTO iMac, top of the line.
3,5 GHz Haswell i7, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, GTX780M, magic mouse, magic trackpad...due in about 8 weeks here in Europe.
Damn, put down almost 4000 EUR for that.
On second thought, I think whisky might not be enough to make me forget :D

Why not 8GB and upgrade it with another Ram? It´s cheaper.

Yeah, that's how I did it in fact.
It's 32 GB installed by the Apple dealer, third-party aftermarket. It's not the factory-installed 32 GB, that one was double the price. Even if I doubt I would ever max that 32 GB but hey...

Got a new iMac for Christmas

Hey Guys, I got a new iMac for Christmas and I am so excited to began using it. However, I have one question. I'm coming from a Macbook Pro that has an external HD hooked up to it, which Time Machine uses as a back-up. If I plug this external HD to my new iMac will Time Machine transfer all my files over, or is there something else I have to do to get everything on my new computer.

Please help.

Thanks!

Happy to say I just pulled the trigger on a 27" 3.4 ghz Imac. Switching from PC- have never had a Mac before but have always wanted an Imac.

I am going to try to not rush- take my time in getting it set up and getting everything transferred over from my PC

Definitely a little nervous about making the switch- I have 3 concerns that I hope I can get some guidance on:

1) getting my home WiFi network setup- my router is old so I plan on getting an Airport Extreme- I am hoping this will be an easy process but I am not a network expert by any means- one question I have about that- in replacing my router, is it possible to keep my current network settings/password? I have a TON of devices on our network- it would be a major pain to have to change my logins on each device...

2) Itunes- I want to copy over my itunes on the new Imac so that everything works as it did before- have 2 iphones and 2 ipads info/backups in there- I have copied my entire Itunes music folder to my external hard drive. Can I just put that entire music folder in the Itunes folder on the new Imac? Is it that easy?

3) Email- I need to get my email setup and have a ton of emails I want to transfer- I have all my mail saved in an Outlook PST file- how difficult a process is this and what is the best way to do it?? if I have to, I will just get office for Mac.

Thanks very much in advance

Quick answer:

1. No.
2. Yes
3. Yes, you can import from the .pst into OSX Mail. For sure you can use Outlook 2011 but I honestly don't see why. Even if Office 2011 is way better integrated into OSX than 2008, it still is bloated and cumbersome to use compared to Apple native apps.

A little late to the party, but I ordered my 27 inch iMac on December 26th (using christmas cash)

It would be here today (Jan 1st) but since today is new years, packages aren't being delivered. It is estimated to arrive Jan 2nd. It is in my town right now actually.

Configuration:

27 inch iMac
3.2GHz Quad-Core i5
8GB RAM
512GB SSD
Ge Force GT 755M
Magic Mouse AND Magic Trackpad

Super excited! Replacing 2010 21.5 inch iMac. Should be a nice upgrade!!! :) :)

Just ordered a 27" iMac to replace my Early 2008 17" MBP. I will keep the MBP and use it with conjunction with my iPad for my mobile needs, but the iMac will become my main computer.

  • 3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
  • 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X8GB
  • 512GB Flash Storage
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
  • Apple Magic Mouse
  • Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
  • Accessory Kit

It's interesting to see so many people ordering their iMacs with the 512GB SSD. This is definitely what I'll be going with but it's too bad it's so expensive.

It seems like we're in a point in time where computers are on the brink of all being SSD but the price is just a bit too high.

I think those that didn't get at least a Fusion Drive will be regretting it I a year. My 2c.

Just ordered two refurb iMacs from Apple, loaded latest models for about a $500 discount by going through the refurb store. Seems like a deal for a sweet machine.

  • Refurbished 27-inch iMac 3.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
  • Originally released September 2013
  • 27-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology; 2560-by-1440 resolution
  • 8GB memory
  • 3TB Fusion drive
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M graphics processor with 4GB of GDDR5 memory

Will be upgrading to 32GB of memory through Crucial as well.

Just awaiting delivery of a 3.4Ghz 8G 1Tb Fusion 27" iMac. This will be my first iMac since the "white dome" version.

I am currently running a 2008 Mac Pro 2 x 2.8Ghz Quad Core with 10Gb RAM and a 500G SSD which I got via refurb and has been great.

I had been waiting for the new Mac Pro but the price, and the realisation that I don't really need that sort of grunt - none of my photos are THAT big - turned me towards the iMac.

The only pain for me - first world problem alert - is the need to buy an external Firewire enclosure for all the disks currently sitting in my Mac Pro.

I also assume that now there is a new Mac Pro, the value of my old one may drop (off the table?). What do you reckon guys?

Mine went Preparing For Shipment last night. Been rabidly checking AppleCare agreements page to see if my iMac will show up so I could get the serial number and been checking UPS and Fedex to see if the order # or my phone numbers as a reference number to see if it has shipped yet.

Just received my new 27" iMac, Core i7 upgrade, 32GB RAM, 500GB Flash Drive, 4GB upgraded video card. This is replacing the late 2012 27" Core i5. WOW. What a difference in speed. Between the i7, the upgraded video card and the pure flash storage drive, the speed increase is obscene. Even Adobe's InDesign CC (which was virtually unusable on the previous iMac) runs pretty well.

That previous iMac has found a good home on my wife's desk.

My advice: If you can afford the pure flash storage instead of the Fusion drive, get it. It's well worth it! Same with the video upgrade.

I ordered a 27 inch today, model MDO95LL/A. Was really excited till I found out that B&H apparently sold me a 2012 IMAC:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Mine shipped. :D Got the serial number and according to appleserialnumberinfo.com, it doesn't know where it was built, it's a 3 TB Fusion Drive, a 3.5 Ghz Core i5, etc. Obviously that's wrong(hopefully!). According to chipmunk, it was assembled in the USA. :D

FedEx has it originating in Fremont, CA. Got a US assembled iMac. :D

Did I Do Good?

Hey thanks for viewing my thread. I recently purchased an iMac ALONGSIDE a new Keyboard, Mouse, and Mousepad. The iMac was $173 (shipping included). I know I could have saved money and bought something better, but my Windows PC has been extremely glitchy, even after formatting, etc. I like Macs far better anyway. My current specs on my Windows PC are:

HP Pavilion Slimline
- Pentium(R) Dual-Core E5200 @ 2.50GHz
- 4.0 GB RAM
- 500 GB Hard Drive
- Nvidia geforce 7100

The computer that I bought specs are:

Apple iMac A1208

- Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz
- 2.0 GB RAM (Upgrading)
- 160 GB Hard Drive (I don't mind the hard drive)
- ATI Radeon X1600

Apple Magic Mouse A1296

Apple MB110LL/B Wired Keyboard with Numeric Keypad

I really like that iMac series.
Seems like 2 GB of RAM is the maximum it can take officially.
It makes a great computer. Enjoy it!
