I finally saved enough to replace my 24" 2007 iMac (which has performed like an absolute trooper, *sniff).

Just have to hold tight for the new one to be delivered tomorrow - and I'm rubbish at waiting! I've bought 16GB of extra memory ready to install:

27-inch iMac

• NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M 1GB GDDR5
• 3.2GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
• 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
• 512GB Flash Storage

Went to look at the iMac 5k again in the store and decided the screen was worth it. Probably would have preferred the Mac Pro 6 core but would be over twice the price. When the Mac Pro gets updated and 4k is standardized for all display configurations, will upgrade my Mac Pro 5.1. In the meantime I'll stick a 4k 2nd monitor on the iMac and use it for photo editing. 3 to 4 weeks delivery...

Any had their order for Retina iMac move from preparing for shipment back to processing items?

Ordered on the 30th October, delivery between 13th-17th November. Don't think I will be getting it tomorrow ;-). How accurate are their delivery estimates. Previous items have arrived spot on (portable gear). Never ordered a desktop though.

Ordered
i7, 295x, sad, base ram (upgraded ram from crucial).

I also ordered on the 30th and have a 14th to 19th for delivery. Its still in processing though and Im in the UK.

Realistically speaking, once you do that, how many years do you believe this will be fast and your main computer? How many years before you find it getting s.l.o.w.e.r to the point u can't take it anymore?

Minimum 3 years, max 5 I reckon.

I've had my Mac Pro 6 years and it's only in the last 6 months or so that I've really felt any pressing need to upgrade.

Its been an amazing workhorse - used 50-60 hours a week and never had a problem with it - but def time to move on now.

Unfortunately the new iMac is not due for delivery until 2-8th December....

What are your thoughts on the base model? Any regrets not getting the i7 CPU or m295x GPU upgrades?

Well no. Not at all. In fact if I did not read these boards I would not even consider the base model not being "enough" computer for my needs. Nothing I have thrown at mine would give me pause to think I made a mistake. The ram is upgradable and I will do that eventually. So, I have no complaints and I would not change my mind about buying the base model. What a wonderful piece of technology it is!!

Ordered i7, M295X, 128GB SSD on November 3rd, order page still says processing items, dispatched 7-10 days, expected delivery (to the UK) 18th - 21st November.

Well that's tomorrow, so I'm guessing the site is just plain wrong at this point. Bleh.

Exactly the same dates as mine.

I can't see that even if it shipped today it would make it for the 21st.

May I ask why you bought the 128SSD instead of the 256 version or more so, why not the Fusion Drive?

( asking as i am about to take the plunge and not yet sure which drive to take)

I understand that this means that all of the iMacs ARE ABLE to take 16 gigs further down the line when you feel you need it?

I've gone for 128GB of very fast storage for OS and applications, everything else will go on an external Thunderbolt 2 array (a LaCie 2big, for those wondering).

I'll be adding another 16GB of RAM from a third party, as I'm not a fan of Apple's markup on memory.

----------

Oh, and I got a dispatch update from Apple this evening - dispatch now delayed until November 26th (estimated). Hmmm.

I went with the 512GB but also been using the LaCie 2b TB2 drive and I'm impressed with it so far. Just need my RiMac to arrive now haha

Refurbish iMac

I just ordered myself a 27" iMac, Late 2013.
3.5GHz i7
8GB RAM
3TB Fusion
Nvidia 780m 4GB Video
Flux Capacitor (I wish)

Kind of excited.:D

I own a small video/movie production company with a specifically limited budget this is exactly what I was able to afford. We don't make 4k movies (yet), but I know that if we need to, this iMac will handle it just fine.

(I did order RAM from Amazon, so I won't be stuck with 8GB.)

Woot!

Reading many posts one thing i see over and over is advice to at least move up to 256 as some have said the 128 gig won't be enough, especially in a few years.

Ive read that the 1TB Fusion drive is good. Am I wrong? I have fiscal constraints on this purchase and need to cut back wherever I can right now, hence like you, I can always upgrade my ram later on BUT IF i AM right, I can't upgrade the disks later so if i choose 256 and its not big enough 3 years down the road....I am concerned...Software, Operating Systems, etc, growing in size......therefore wondering why you didn't go 1TB Fusion?

I ordered my Retina iMac (4.0GHz, 4GB graphics, 1TB Fusion) on the 7th of November with a delivery estimate of 21-26 of November. Still processing...

My New iMac

November 12, 2014 my new 27" iMac (non-retina) arrived. I read the reviews and analyzed my situation; I realized I didn't need 14.7 million pixels. One quarter of that would work for me.

Specs
• 3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
• 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM
• 512GB Flash Storage
• NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5

I wanted some speed with significant capacity. A 512GB SSD will mean I won’t have to push regularly accessed data off to secondary drives, like I did with the 128GB SSD on the MBA. And it will be fast. Very fast. That makes me happy.

I'm a somewhat serious amateur photographer. I use Adobe Lightroom to catalog my RAW images and I store them on a Western Digital 2 Terabyte USB drive.

I set an artificial limit of about $3,000 (plus tax) and was able to get what I wanted within that. A week and a half in I have no regrets.

Refurbished iMac

This will be my very first iMac. Here is what I got:

Refurbished 27-inch iMac 3.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
Originally released September 2013
27-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology; 2560-by-1440 resolution
16GB memory
3TB Fusion drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M graphics processor with 2GB of GDDR5 memory
Built-in FaceTime HD camera

Should I be worried about it being the 2013 model and being refurbished? From what I read everyone has been happy with their refurbished models. I also purchased Apple Care. Will it come with the latest software (snow leopard and Yosemite already installed?

If it makes you happy to be worried then by all means be worried. However there is no evidence that the emotion would be justified.

In other words, chances are your experience will be the same as the millions before you that have been extremely happy with their refurbished iMacs, I know I have been with mine. Just don't treat the thing like a MS Windows box by installing antivirus software, cleaning apps or other worthless crap.

Got my 2013 27" i7, 780M, 16GB, 1TB FD today!
Was torn between this and the Retina, but decided to go with this one and love it.

Coming from a 2011 MBP, display is absolutely gorgeous even if it isn't Retina!

Nice!, what type of movies are you producing?

----------

Anyway I pulled the trigger on a base Retina iMac(should arrive today). I really wanted a 3TB version but the price was too good($2300, no tax and 2 day shipping). I thought about bumping up to an i7 and 295 GPU but my biggest concern is heat and from reading posts of people who do iMac repairs.... heat can be an issue down the road.
