can i ask you why did you switch back to win??
did you missed something in particular or..?

im currently thinking to switch to my first 27 imac, coming from 16+ years of windows...

Why are you thinking of switching to mac, if I may ask?

Now that I'm so used to the iPad when I'm on the go, I'm thinking of trading in my Macbook Air and venturing back to the world of desktops.

Leaning toward an iMac right now.

Just ordered a refurb i7 quad 27inch iMac!!!

I'm stocked.

Next I'm ordering 16GB of memory, possibly an SSD....still looking around the forums for the best solution there.

I'm beyond excited!

I started out using PC's running Windows, and have never had anything else. My Wife had always wanted to buy a Mac but I always resisted. Now, a mere 48 hours after picking up our first iMac ever, I'm 99% convinced that I'll probably never buy another PC again!! Everything is just so damn easy on the iMac... why have you guys been keeping this thing a secret for so long!! ;)

We got the 21.5" version with 2.7Ghz i5 Quad-Core CPU, 4 Gb RAM,
1TB drive, Magic Mouse + Trackpad.

Really didn't find the jump to OSX that hard either, everything seems to work very well with no issues so far. Hopefully this trend will continue!!:p

I am exactly the same about 3 days into it see my sig for specs and best decision i have made and i have sold , built , supported PC's for 10 years in retail and used , built for 15 - 20 years personally .. and i will set it up on bootcamp Win 7 for games .. 5 mins out of the box it was up and running never seen any pc in my years be able to do that ....

Lol.
I thought and told the same thing the OP when I bought a MacBook Pro in 2009.
5 months later I've sold it and came back to Windows 7.

For whoever is complaining about bloatware in PCs, stop being retarded.
What companies do to their brand computers has nothing with Windows 7.

A retail Windows 7 DVD comes as fresh as a Mac OS X fresh install.

Sometimes I think people in this forum are 12 years old.

i have installed many versions of Windows right through to Win7 and i was using win 7 ultimate on my tower just before switching over .... OSX is a far leaner O/S ... boot shutdown times way quicker .. operation of the general OS quicker ... bloatware still exists whether it be bundled in a brand machine or in windows ... Win 7 is a lot better but OSX still wipes the floor with 7

16 gigs from apple? ouch. that had to hurt.

hope someone else paid for it.

Yeah right, paying 16Gb RAM from Apple means you have a questionable reason, or mind ...

The RAM itself is 300 - 400 % extortion from Apple, something that Apple hater would be proud to show us, and yet some of us proof it by buying full sized RAM from Apple

Come on, people .. even if you love :apple: .. think straight

OP -

Congrats .... use and enjoy your new machine.

Don't let what others say about so called problems bother you, if a problem does develop you will know on your own and Apple is there to help you.

I was a Windows user, and made a living in IT ( Novell and Microsoft MCSE ).

Personally I made the switch over 6 years ago.

I then migrated my entire family over to Apple OSX and my life got a whole lot easier. We have 6 systems here and when they were all Windows, I was coming home and having to do more work.

After switching to Mac's all those problems went away.

I know that feeling always working on someones machine friend or family .. daughter say this is not working or something at least once a week my dream is to get her onto a MAC next ...

I too worked with PC's for 20 odd years and i believe they are dead in comparison to the new iMacs , MBP

Does your new 2011 iMac have the yellow tint problem?

I don't think so. It's a uniform colour, but the white is a very warm white as opposed to my 2010 MBP which is a bit cooler. The white was a bit of a shock at first but I'm coming to like it. But I will do as seanmolin suggested and get a monitor calibrator to tweak this.

Also, while the brightness is adequate in a dark environment, the other day I found myself wishing that it could go a bit brighter for really sunny days. I certainly can't imagine using it below the half-way brightness point, so I would have preferred increased brightness on the upper end.

Those are really my only (rather picky) complaints. But otherwise I'm very, very happy with it. It's the perfect blend of elegance and performance. I remember the thrill of turning on my Dad's first computer (an Apple IIe) for the first time and I haven't been that excited about a computer until now!

I recently converted from a PC, too. I've been using a PC since 1987. A year ago, I would have never, ever bought a Mac - no way, no how. I've now got an iPhone, both generations of the iPad, a MacBook Pro and just purchased a 27" iMac. Simply put, the Macs work and make the experience so much better. I hope you enjoy your iMac too. They are awesome machines.

I'm alittle over 24 hours into my first Mac, and I think I'm in love. It's OS feels so clean compaired to windows, and it's been super easy to use and set up. There were a few things I needed help with, but thanks largely in part to the finder (and some help from online) I was able to figure things out quickly.

I got the high end 27" model because I like game such as wow, TF2, CS, ect. I feel like I'm playing completely different games now, it's amazing

just over 72 hours into mine and i love it. its so fast and the display is beautiful. i pretty much havent left my desk since i set it up. only gripe i have is the magic mouse, a trackpad is definitely in my future.

I got my base 21.5" a few days ago and also absolutely love it! Glad your wife finally won you over. The iMac is a great machine.

I also just switched. We both got Iphones last year and I recently bought my wife an ipad1. I own a pc store for 14 years now. Im just tired of pc's.
I jumped when the new Imacs were released. I am in love with the track pad. The learning curve was/isn't too bad.. the biggest difference I've found is that clicking the red button does not close the program, just the window. I just upgraded to 8 gigs of ram because i've usually not closed several programs when I was thinking I did.
I've got the 27" base model with 8 gig ram and a 2 tb time machine back up. Enjoy your mac, I am. and big thanks to this forum, Its been a wealth of info and help.
P.s. my screen does not have a tint problem or any stuck/dead pixels.

I've had my iMac for three days and I'm in love. Until I purchased it, I had never seen, touched, or used an Apple and I am blown away.
It has taken me a few days to get a handle on the basics and I am still learning the more advanced features, but I am having a blast.
The funniest thing so far is the 27 inch is sooo big I sometimes lose the cursor. It took me 20 seconds of moving the mouse to find it once. I still laugh about it.
Although I didn't have and yellow tinge or dead pixels I do have a 3mm hair under the glass in the bottom right hand corner. Not a big deal, but I do want to get rid of it
I understand that the glass is held on by magnets. Can I lift the bottom corner up or do I have to remove the glass from the top down?

Took my 3.4GHz i7 with 1GB GPU back to the store last night and this morning did a BTO for the same but with a 2GB GPU, estimated delivery is just over a week.
The 1GB card was really starting to bug me and I really don't understand why Apple don't just stick the 2GB in the top range machine and be done with it.

While I was waiting to hand the machine back at the Apple Store a chap came in after a 2GB i7 and he wasn't happy at having to order online with a week wait.

Define "bug"? .. why you feel annoyed with 1Gb VRAM? Is something wrong with the performance? Anything feel laggy or something? Or you simply don't like it because it's written 1Gb DDR5 VRAM on spec sheet?

Please enlighten me, seriously, i'm not being sarcastic here .. just pure curiosity :)

The only thing I regret is not having an SSD, but wouldn't be able to afford it anyway!

Accessing my media from the FireWire drive is still a bit sluggish in my opinion. Can't wait to invest in a 2TB external thunderbolt drive.

After thinking and deliberating so much, I kinda inclined to get external SSD rather than taking a risk putting your own SSD inside.

1. Thunderbolt SSD have more bandwith than SATA 3 interface. It means your SSD will work 100% using Thunderbolt

2. SSD still have less durability compared to traditional HDD, so whenever your SSD failed, you just replace your SSD from the Thunderbolt chassis

3. SSD chassis (a good one) looks cool when put below your iMac .. just look at LaCie's Thunderbolt case

4. One of silly reason, but you can show that you actually use SSD, and not just SSD ... you plug it on your Thunderbolt .. double brags a PC can't do :p

PS: 4th reason is a joke man .. calm down :D

Funny isn't it how people get into Apple... the wife and I both started with iPods too. She had an old pink 6Gb iPod Mini some years ago, and my first iPod was the little green 1Gb "Clip On" Shuffle. I also loved it.

It was only in last September that I bought her an 8Gb iPod Touch for her birthday and she's barely put it down since!! She bought me one as well for Christmas so we were both quite familiar with the App Store when we both decided to buy 16Gb iPhone 4's and we were very close to picking up an iPad when the 2nd generation was released.

We did manage to resist the iMac at that time too, but when we heard that Apple had just released the new version with a quad core processor and a better GPU, it was really a no-brainer.

As I said before, I've only ever had PC's and started back with the old Windows 3.1 on a 386 with 4Mb RAM and a massive 80Mb HD. I've also built my own PC's and run a business on the side building PC's. I work in IT in a UNIX/Linux/Windows server environment so I have next to no experience with OSX.

The thing that impressed me the most was the ease at which the iMac got from the box to the point of being up and running in around 5 minutes!! I'm also having issues learning the layout of OSX as far as the finder goes, but it all seems very streamlined and super lean as an OS. This thing is fast, damn fast... and for us the 21.5 inch screen is just perfect. It wasn't even the price difference between the 21.5 and the 27, but more the fact that we both found the 27" iMac to be insanely large, almost to the point of overkill. From what we've been used to, the 21.5" is quite a leap in screen size and should be more than enough for anything we're likely to do. It's slick, it's fast and it's damn sexy compared to anything else out there at the moment. I can't ever say that I've felt that way about a PC.

We're really looking forward to some productive computing in a fun way. I too am sick of spending my down-time fixing PC's for friends and family. I'm loving the OSX interface and of course the Mac App Store can't be ignored either. I just bought the new release of XCode and the SDK. I'm am currently looking into developing some iPhone/iPad/iPod apps. I have tinkered with C++ and Visual BASIC programming a long time ago, but the new iOS SDK with open API's leads me to believe that XCode wont be too much of a drastic learning curve.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to pump out a couple of simple test apps in the not too distant future, and I look forward to playing around with it in the days to come.

Cheers to you all and thanks a lot for the warm welcome. It's just like walking into an Apple retail store!! :apple::D:apple:

Yours Converted

Todd
