That should last you 7 years without a need for replacement! WOW, what a machine! Congrats.

The wait is daunting! I keep checking (it seems like every hour!) on my Apple Order Status page to see if there is any movement on my 27 inch iMac.

There must be something very, very, wrong with me.

I ordered it online on the 24th of May. It mentions that it "ships: 2 - 4 Business days-Delivers: May 28 - Jun 2 ".

Update: Just received an email from Apple. Our iMac has shipped and we have a Fedex tracking number! Our iMac should arrive this coming Saturday. This is great as it gives me time to copy files over the holiday weekend.

Awesome!

I finally decided to go ahead...without SSD

Hi guys :)

I'm new, here...have been reading and learning a lot from this fantastic forum over the last couple of weeks though. Great place! :D

I just placed my order, after deciding that the SATA3 SSD's shipping with the iMac isn't worth waiting an additional 4-6 weeks for. Had it been comparable to a Vertex 3 in terms of performance, i probably would have ordered it, but im not paying 728 USD (i live in Denmark, Scandinavia, Europe) for something half the performance of the OCZ drive.

I've been waiting patiently for more than two weeks now, and i have actually been very close to ordering a 256GB SSD/1TB HDD combo several times. But the size of the drive versus the price (too big for OS and too small for everything) just isn't worth it for me.

Don't get me wrong, i want SSD, and cant' be convinced otherwise! I allready have a Vertex 2 in my 2010 MBP, and 5 Kingston SSDnow! drives in my MS Hyper-V server and 2 Win7 game PC's so i know the feel of an SSD drive. And therefore sure i cant live without one in my iMac aswell.

I'm too much of a chicken to take this 3400 USD machine apart myself, but will patiently wait (maybe a month) for some thunderbolt enclosures to surface, or alternatively have an Apple servicecentre install one internally for me. At the moment they are not comfortable doing it (or not allowed?)

Anyways, this is what i ordered:

3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5
Apple Magic Mouse + Magic Trackpad
Apple Wireless Keyboard

I can't wait!!! (3rd of june)

BR- Kasper

BTW: i plan on ordering 4x4GB Kingston "Apple" 1333mhz...OWC isnt available in Denmark.

Congratulations. That machine is a beast. I recently got the 2010 2.93 Ghz i7 in the refurbished store and I cant seem to over load it. Its a great buy and would be in great condition for 5-7 years.

Just ordered a 27" iMac to replace my ageing unibody MacBook + 23" IPS setup. I bought an 11" Air at the end of last year, so I'm sorted on the portability side.

3.4Ghz i7
4GB RAM [going via OWC for the 16GB kit]
2GB SATA drive [adding an SSD manually]
2GB Radeon 6970M
Magic Trackpad [have a good mouse, like the trackpad for browsing]

Just a matter of waiting for it to arrive now. Will put it to use crunching RAW's and playing games.

BOOM! I ordered mine. Fully Loaded!

IMAC 27"
Ships: Jul 1
Delivers Jul 9 by Standard Shipping
With the following configuration:

PROCESSOR 065-0250 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
MEMORY 065-0251 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
HARD DRIVE 065-0311 2TB Serial ATA Drive+256GB SSD
GRAPHICS 065-0312 AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5
MOUSE 065-0341 APPLE MAGIC MOUSE
REMOTE 065-9010 APPLE REMOTE
KEYBOARD & USER'S GUIDE 065-0344 Apple WL Kybd (English)+User's

Will upgrade RAM on my own ;-)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Should I just copy files from my 2007 iMac or do a Time Machine restore? I don't mind re-installing apps, but I don't want to bring over any bloat I've accumulated over the years using a restore from Time Machine.

I thought about this too: I figure that I'll just pull my iTunes library & database across manually, as well as my Lightroom catalogs, to avoid the bloat.

My TM backup is pretty big, and there's a fair bit of cruft there from the last two-and-a-bit years that I'm happy to get rid of.

Got my first Mac. Man, why didn't I get one sooner? So glad I don't have to deal with junk anymore. Will never be buying another Windoze machine again. My wife was a little hesitant but shes even enjoying it and she hates technology. Now I have to try and replace my work machine with a Macbook.

That's amazing, I ordered the exact same machine on May 3rd (!) and now it will ship on July 8th and arrive on July 18th, so way after yours. Thank you Apple for pushing the delivery date back for Europeans!

Congrats to you though, great choice!!

Jumping ship

Hi everyone,
Decided to take the plunge and after too many years on Microsoft based kit.

I read the forums, and have so many questions, not sure where to start.

This seem like a good place :)

I have ordered a new iMac

3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
2TB Serial ATA Drive+256GB SSD AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5
MAGIC MOUSE+MAGIC TRACKPAD-Z

Didn't know about the mouse or trackpad so got both just in case :)

Question: I have a 2tb USB drive; NTFS formatted; can Mac read and copy stuff off this, or do i need to convert it to Fat32 first? (Would prefer not to)

Thanks in advance

Ordered my iMac a couple of days ago, was £1270 with education discount but Apple somehow charged me £1880 which pushed my account into the overdraft and set off fraud alerts with my bank (the £1270 amount probably would have done so too). Called the rep who I ordered from, he apologised and sorted out a £100 discount on an iPad to apologise, as well as the correct price on the iMac. Got both now, pretty happy with both. The iMac screen is perfect, no yellow tinting whatsoever and the iPad is great (giving it to my dad), now I'm just negotiating the £30 overdraft fee I got from Natwest!

Its the 2.7 Ghz i5 iMac with the ATI 6770 or something. I was going to go for the next one up but I'm trying this one out as it might just be more than enough for my needs. Hell, my friend who has always built his own PCs came round to see the iMac and he loves it, he's thinking about buying one!:D

Congrats! I believe there's an app that allows you to read and/or write from/to NTFS filesystems, it might be called MacDrive or something. You won't be able to format it as FAT32 as that only supports up to 32GB partions I believe and is generally a nuisance if you wish to transfer files larger than 4GB. The app would be your best bet but make sure you read reviews. If you still need the filesystem to be accessible from Windows computers and you don't want to use that app you can format it to exFat which is readable/writable from/to both macs and PCS. I've used this but in my experience sometimes on Windows it asks me if I wish to fix the filesystem which leads me to worry about the integrity of such a setup.

Man I hate that fedex/UPS is closed on holidays... I totally forgot about the holiday weekend, So gotta take that into account as to why my iMac wont be here for a few more days. Blah.

Also hate sundays :(

Bought the 21.5" base model yesterday. Actually bought it from Best Buy as it was $60 less than what the apple web site is selling it for. Of course they tried to peddle me their warranty, of which I declined and told them I would go with applecare. They asked why I would go with applecare over their warranty, and told them with applecare, I know they will fix any problem correctly.

Wow...am I the only one who ordered a baseline 27" model? Rather...I feel like I'm making a critical mistake ordering the baseline model!

Mine shipped through TNT on May 30, and it's estimated to arrive on June 1! :D:D:D

Definitely not. It is the best bang for the buck in my opinion if you don't game often.

I would have gone for the base as well but the high-end model marks the first time a really powerful gaming GPU is available for the iMac so I couldn't resist the 6970M.

Huh! There go my worries then. The most gaming I'll be doing is firing up old-school emulators, and maybe a round of Starcraft 1 and 2.

Yeah it'll be great for that. I have the baseline iMac and for SC2 it runs really well (not surprisingly). I am tempted to return it for the better graphics card as it does suffer a bit with Battlefield 2 Bad Company, but not too sure.

Just picked up my new iMac at the apple store today!! It's a base 21 to replace my core 2 duo iMac which will be put in the family room for my wife and daughter. Then I placed an order for 16 Meg of RAM from OWC to really make it humm.

Quad core i5 and 16 Meg or RAM. OH YEA! :D:D

Tnt

To anyone who received their iMac (or anything for that matter) through TNT, I have a question. Do they not actively update the tracking position for goods?
