Cant wait to order mine!
Ive been a PC user for my whole live (17 now) I first started using macs at my college for music production, they were the ugly white plastic imacs, i hated them, and i was the only one in my class that hated them. The college got robbed FORTUNATLY, as within the next to days the college bought loads of new imacs (there old now, 2 years old) but they were shiny aluminium ones that were faster and sleeker than the previous gen. They were also running 10.6, and thats where i fell in love with the mac, 10.6 was beautifully crafted, much better than crappy 10.5 (urgh) I got more used to the macs all the time, and i started another course at the college where we had to use imacs, they were still the aluminium macs but they are running 10.5 (its tolerable, but i dont like it much) For what i wanted to do i decided to save up and get a new imac when it comes out, and now it has i must wait for the college ipod (i need the ipod, aint got an i0s device since i sold my 3gs) so i can get the most for my money. These new imacs are fu**ing BEASTS, ive decided to go for the i5 27 inch imac with 2gb graphics card, and a total of 12gb of ram (upgraded by myself with 2x 4gb sticks from crucial memory) so i can do film converting, music production, gaming and other powerful intense stuff you can do on a gorgeous 27 inch high res display. Ive decided to go for the i5 because i like to close what i dont use, where it be a program or a tab on google chrome, to conserve as much computer resources as possible, so a powerful i5 is perfect for me, as i would never have more than 4 programs open at once (as the i5 has for cores, it can utilize each core for each program) i dont think the i7 is worth it as it only proveds a 0.3 increase in speed, and a 0.2 increase when both the i5 and i7 processors are in turbo boost mode. Sure, hyperthreading increases the performance slightly, but not many programs can take advantage of it and i think it would be better to dedicate one core to the os, and have 3 cores avalible to dedicate to 3 other programs, having turbo boost to speed them all up. If ive got 12gb of ram and 2gb graphics performance, they will surely more than make up for the gaming and music production, as having more than 4 programs open, the ram will keep the programs running fast and lets face it, 3.1ghz is crazy fast anyway. It makes sense upgrading the graphics and ram instead of upgrading the processor slightly. Cant wait to order it, its gonna be immense
