I got my 27" 3.4 refurb today!! Very excited, set it up and so far I really like it. I ordered it with 4GB but came with 8GB RAM, nice little freebie. I also got the SSD since I have about 5TB via sinology NAS I thought might not need any more internal space.

One issue so far :( on the upper left corner I see some smudges (look like finger smudges inside the glass), I also have a few dust particles throughout...once the iMac is on you can't notice either of these issues but I'm really picky so going to decide if return or not...what you guys think?

Edit: I also noticed in addition to extra RAM, my graphics is listed in the system info tab as 6970M 2048MB, I ordered the 1GB graphics card, is this a different one? Not sure how to read the 2048MB part?

That is the 6970 w/ 2GB of RAM. 1024MB = 1GB 1024 x 2 is the 2048MB you see.
Definitely some nice freebies if they sent you the high end i7 system but you didn't order it.

You stole my refurb! I was hoping to get the 2GB GPU! Congrats on the Apple lottery.

Thanks, the extras are nice, what do you guys think about the smudges and particles behind glass...should I exchange or can apple store "clean" behind glass?

Thanks.

Those are nice extras but if you want you can have Apple clean behind the screen or do it your self. I prefer to do the cleaning my self as I can take the screen off real easy and clean it better as I am fussy and so I went to the dollar store and get a glass suction cup and it really easy to take the front glass off with the suction cup. This utube video explains and shows it best.

If I do myself does that void warranty?

As I understand it and I did question the guys at my Apple reseller was as long as I do not go any further then removing and cleaning the screen that the warranty is still good. The one service tech stated that they consider it normal maintenance-cleaning. So a few days later my wife was at the Apple store and she asked the same question and got the same answer.

Pulled the trigger on a i5 27" for the wife for her birthday. Was looking at the 21 but it's smaller than her current PC screen. Hoping I get lucky in the refurb lottery and no odd screen issues!

100% Newwwwwbie

Zero experience with a Mac. I'd say the last time I worked on an Apple Computer was the Apple 2C! ha ha.... my how things have changed.

Got the 27" iMac with all of the bells and whistles. Clicked the highest end option in every category when I ordered it. Over $4K when all said and done.

Anyway, I have some newbie questions I'll be asking in the forum real soon (after I search around a bit for my answer!!)

Cheers

It's funny that a few days ago I said I was going to wait for the refresh and get a 21.5" iMac. Well after checking out some gaming benchmarks for the 6970m graphics card and remembering that I get 5% cashback this quarter at Amazon.com with my credit card, I decided to pull the trigger on the 3.1 GHz 27" iMac. $1800 after cashback, no tax, and overnight shipping for $3.99!

Also grabbed the Crucial 2x4 GB memory kit for another $40. I can't wait to try this baby out!

Got my Refurb and the Logic Board is kaput

Got the base 27" i5 refurb from Apple last week and dropped it off at a certified apple repair center to install an SSD as the boot drive. They spent the week trying to get it to mount, to no avail. Then they discovered the problem: The Logic Board was kaput!

Today, they installed a brand new logic board and tomorrow I pick it up. I guess this is good as I was going to wait to drop in the SSD - and if I had - who knows if by that time, the machine may have been out of warranty. YIKES! I'm definitely purchasing Apple Care on this one.

Somehow it doesn't make me feel very safe... But then again. New Logic Board.

Got my iMac yesterday, it is really really nice. Phoned apple because I wanted to swap out the magic mouse that came with my refurb, they said they would send me the trackpad for free next day delivery. With the free extra trackpad and an extra 8GB ram I got cheap to make 12GB, it really is a great machine.

Congrats! I had the same luck with Customer Support as well. First I called to cancel my AppleCare for the 2 iMacs since I was going to reorder it with a student discount. They said they would simply credit the $50 to each computer. However, they ended up crediting the total $100 to each computer! :)

Then I asked about returning the Magic Mice for the Track Pads. They said they couldn't return just those parts, but gladly sent me two new track pads as well free of charge. Gotta Love that kind of CS!

BTW, I wish I won the Apple Lottery on at least ONE of them... :(

You'll love it. I haven't found a game yet that I can't play at 2560x1440 with all settings maxed. :)

Wife's 27" iMac i5 just arrived! No silent upgrades, but it is perfect! It was kinda chugging with 4gb, but I had 4gb from upgrading my MBP and once that was in, no BeachBalls! I was a bit concerned about the font size, but the display is super crisp so I don't think there will be any issues.

sold my MPB a few months ago, been using an iPad ever since. finally picked up the base 27"at the apple store here in houston galleria, installed 16gb of ram before booting and i am loving the crap out of this thing. i would like to wait for the refresh but seeing as i NEED it for school, and understanding that this computer is going to be up to date for a very long time, I'm massively happy with my purchase.

Well I made my purchase yesterday after several weeks of research.

Went with the:
27" iMac
3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5

Going to upgrade the ram to 8gb myself since Apple charges so much for it. Pretty stoked about it and ready for it to come in already ha

Got my 27" iMac from Amazon yesterday after paying the $3.99 for overnight shipping (the most obvious $3.99 I've ever spent in my life).

Oh my god! I'm in love with this thing. Everytime I look at the screen I'm blown away by the quality of the picture and the amount of real estate I have to work with now. I'm absolutely loving the wireless keyboard as well, and it's great to have one around the house since I have an iPhone, Macbook Pro, and iPad as well that I can use it with.

Oh, did I mention the thing looks damn sexy? :D

Extremely glad I pulled the trigger now instead of waiting months for a refresh.

I totally agree!!! I have had my 27" iMac for for 4 months now and I love it it! This is my 1st Mac and I must say that I am a fan!!!

Enjoy your new machine!!!!!!!

My first mac was a white 24" 2006 iMac, and I thought, probably never going back to pc..

In early December, I just got a refurbished i7, and there is NO WAY I'd ever go back to pc now! I love it!! I got the top end one mainly as a hedge against future obsoleteness, planning on using it for at least 5+ years. I was lucky to discover the refurb store via this forum, saved me a ton of money with buying the memory separate too, so thank you all. You would never know this thing is not brand new. OH, yes, the screen - I love my matte screen on the 2006, I was worried about this glossy reflective screen but it is no problem at all. I have no windows behind me and other ambient reflection is barely noticible - the color and image sharpness are just breathtaking!

I do still have a pc that I use occasionally, but I really can't stand it. Windows is such a pain. ;)

ps how do you guys make those little black apples in your signatures?
or is it a secret?!

I agree, as well. I don't see me going back to a PC.

And the saga continues... 6 big dust specks behind the display. Back to the shop. Geez!
