I often wandered if the refurb they list would be the minimum you'd get if you ordered one. Thanks for confirming that!

I called them up afterwards to make sure they hadn't made a mistake. Their responst? "Guess you got lucky"

Adding myself to the club, at long last...27" 3.4 i7, 8GB, 2GB 6970M, 1 TB and 256SSD for $2300 "used"...defined as only taken out of the box to power it up, put back in, and left to sit for four months, with none of the plastic removed. :)

So that four months is off of the 3 yr Applecare, but that's the only downside. AWESOME machine, and I don't feel any regret, nor any worry that I'll feel remorse when the updated models come out.

ugh! slow a$$ shipping. Ordered a BTO on 06/15 and it looks like Fed Ex wont be delivering until 06/27 now!!

Add me to the club! Just picked up the 21.5" 1 TB 4 GB 2.7 i5 last night.

I couldn't wait and longer and had been looking at iMac's for the last 3 months or so... Time to pull the trigger!

Transferring all the data from my MBP could not have been easier.

This iMac is amazing! Thanks for helping me decide to get it everyone!

im awaiting delivery of an Imac 27" 2TB HD, SSD, 16G Ram...
im a digital illustrator who has been working on a pc for years, this will be my first apple computer, i have a few questions:

should i wait till the release of mountain lion before installing photoshop? or can i go ahead and install photoshop right away and then update to mountain lion, will this cause problems?

when i install photoshop should i install it on the ssd or the regular hard drive?

should i migrate my massive image library from my pc to the ssd or the regular hd?
any help appreciated!

Cs6 on SSD, large working files on HDD. I got a similar system. Photoshop starts in like, 3 or 4 seconds. Lovely.

Thanks Mikdog. Im expecting a bit of a culture shock when the imac arrives.*

I'll be going from a dell dimension 8400 intel pentium 4 cpu with a whole 1g of ram(!) and 250 g hd running photoshop 7 with a wacom intuos 3 to a 27" imac*
3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7*16GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM -4x4GB*2TB Serial ATA Drive+256GB SSDAMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB.
I have the dell on now and it is buzzing and grinding and generally not co operating. Its as if it knows its days are numbered!

Ill also be switching from photoshop 7 to cs6, and from an intuos 3 to an intuos 5. All in All quite a jump. I havent updated my system sooner due to being busy going from freelance job to job, but i have taken some time off specifically to do this update and familiarise myself with all this new(to me) level of hardware/software.

I just bought a 21.5" i7 with 16GB of RAM and a 2TB HD. After seeing what happened to the MacBook Pro line, I decided I should grab a current iMac in case they do something like only use SSD drives or get rid of the size I wanted, like they did with the MacBook Pros. I would have plunked down $4000 for a new 17" MacBook Pro, but since they don't offer that anymore, I paid less for an iMac. Works for me!

Mine is officially "Delivered" but I am at work and its sitting in my garage....waiting to get stolen!

My refurb 21.5 arrived! Im just copying stuff over from my TM backup now.

I hadn't realised how insanely nice the screens are on the 2011 iMacs compared to the 2008 C2Ds. Its so crisp and bright!

I'm looking forward to running them side by side for a couple of days to see how they weigh up before selling on the old faithful C2D.

Loving the new machine. 12GB, raarrgh! 2x the geekbench score. :D

Ok so it has arrived. And as i predicted im feeling some frustration.

1 For starters, when you power up a new imac for the first time, arent you meant to get the welcome movie? That didnt happen.

2 Trying to sync up my stuff from my ipad has been a headache. Itunes i managed to do but importing my contacts and calenders from the ipad to the imac has me stumped.

3 Also I had to do a system update straight out of the box which seems a bit off considering its just come from the factory.

4 is there no bbc iplayer app for the imac? I use the iplayer app alot on my ipad but im having no luck finding an imac equivalent.

5 the mail app is a bit crap isnt it? It wont take my hotmail account.

6 youtube wtf! Is this out of bounds too? Works on my ipad via an app, but not something i can use on my imac??

Day one of the imac experience and to be honest im not overly impressed.

This sounds like it's a refurb that wasn't reinstalled properly (or someone went through after it was reinstalled.

Sign up for iCloud, and this stuff gets a million times easier.

This is normal. They don't update the computer build images every time there's a dot release to the OS.

4 is there no bbc iplayer app for the imac? I use the iplayer app alot on my ipad but im having no luck finding an imac equivalent.

You'll have to talk to BBC about that. Perhaps you're meant to stream directly off the website or something. But, say, the equivalent in the US is probably HBO GO, and you can't do that directly on the computer either - it's up to the content company, as they make the apps and the rules.

5 the mail app is a bit crap isnt it? It wont take my hotmail account.

I have no problem with the default mail app. Many people do, though, and they buy a third-party program named Sparrow.

6 youtube wtf! Is this out of bounds too? Works on my ipad via an app, but not something i can use on my iMac??

Huh? youtube.com should work just fine. If it doesn't, you might need to install or update Flash. The iPad app is designed to use content converted into a non-Flash format. The website is a website.

Well it was BTO if that makes any difference. I upgraded from the standard to max specs, could this be a reason there was no welcome movie. Ive paid a premium for maxing out a new imac, they wouldnt send me a refurb sureley?

Oh no, probably not, but if it was BTO then they probably needed to boot it and get past the welcome video to make sure everything was working. That's my guess anyway.

There isn't a welcome movie anymore.. If you mean the "do do do dodo!" whooshy thing Macs did for years. The only thing you get now is a window with "welcome" scrolling horizontally in lots of languages. If you have a magic mouse or track pad it should explain a little about gestures, run you through registration, otherwise that's it!

That's what mine do anyway. :)

Oh boy, do I miss the "do do dododoo" thing on a Mac. Literally had been enjoying it 4 times until I bought the early batch of 2011 iMac which still came with SL. It's kinda memorable for me to open and turn on my new Mac, and then being welcomed by that nice and catchy tunes.

But yeah, at times it become annoying if you have to look at it again, just because you had to restore SL installation on a crashed Mac ..

Oh yes, Mac do crash .. that's what it says LOL

bought my first mac

Hello guys,

My first post here, I caved and bought a 21.5" IMac, I am sick of waiting, also where I work they are having a 10% off apple computers and with 5% staff discount, the total being 15% off, too good to miss.

The box is too big and bulky, so I have left it at work and will get the wife to pick me up tomorrow, get home set up my new first mac, I am a windows computer user, have been for the last 18 years.

Yeah i could have waited but that would be another 3 weeks for Mountain Lion, which may or may not imac released with it, plus if you have the money, and a retail store is doing a awesome deal, why wait?

If you don't think the tasks you'll perform will take advantage of the spec bump, and you can get a substantial discount, there's nothing wrong with buying now.

Congrats!, I find a 21.5" monitor is big enough, the 27" must be huge!, you must need the BTO machine.

@forty2j, I have a gaming pc, so I can use that for games, I would have liked to have waited for the iMac release, and get a faster machine simply to play games, but the 512MB video card should be able to do something, I am going to try team fortress 2 today, 2 years ago i nearly bought the 21.5 with no graphics card, built a gaming machine instead.

I got picked on at work for buying a mac because I could have bought a pc gaming machine for twice the power at the same price, but simply I want to experience the mac environment, so far its interesting.

No more welcome movie:( That was the best part when you turn it on for the first time. Shame.

I checked the PC all-in-one prices and the iMac is very competitive, a tower and LCD is different but the imac looks so much better than an PC including the all-in-ones!
